Last episode of Jericho tomorrow. Ever. They're canceling it again.

So...what's the deal with Dollhouse? Normally, I'm a big fan of Joss Whedon's works. I liked Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. And I think Eliza Dushku is the most beautiful woman on the face on the planet. But I do not like this show so far (three episodes in). Where are the likable characters? The witty dialogue? The intelligent plot? I don't care about any of the characters so far. There is no snap in the dialogue. And the entire show is so episodic, they feel the need to explain in every episode that Echo has no personality and a new one is imprinted on her, and blah, blah, blah. It just feels like a typical oversexed X-treme FOX show.

I don't watch TV anymore, but Penny arcade tells me not to like it so I'm going to have to agree with you.

You know, considering that every time I actually do find a TV show I like it almost immediately gets canceled...
*coughs*Jericho!*coughs*
...I'm about ready to give up on television myself. Really, the only shows I still watch anymore are Terminator and King of the Hill.

Caught an episode of Criminal Minds on last night. I'm a fan of crime show-y type things and had seen a few other episodes that, while they didn't annoy me, they didn't make me switch the tube off, either.
Well, this particular episode dealt with a biological terrorist. The shows portrayal of the characters, in particular the whining and snivelling of the shows female characters.... Is it a bad sign when, mid show, you start rooting for the plague?

Oh, what's great about those crime dramas is they always eventually have an episode about video games and/or D&D and those really cheese me off. Like in THIS review of an NCIS episode. "There's never been an episode written about gamers yet that hasn't been outright insulting to our intelligence. There may be more nerds out there, but for some reason the mainstream cultural ignorance about us is still mired in the Mazes & Monsters era where people still think reading enough D&D books will cause people to lose all touch with reality and walk around claiming to be an elf princess, or playing enough GTA will cause people to pick up hookers for the health boost then back over them with their car to get their money back. Hookers giving a health boost? Fantasy."

Out of all the crime shows, NCIS picks on gamers the most.
What really cheeses me off about crime shows these days is the utter lack of detective work. There's an Abby/ Garcia type "Forensic Scientist" who is really little more than a glorified computer operator. One of the main detectives will ask the "forensic scientist" a very complex and detailed question, but, lo! They'll just enter a few key strokes into the Magic Box and come out with an answer. Never mind the fact that some of these questions or tests that need to be done are usually done by a highly trained professional, who has generally spent a minimum of four years in a university, studying their trade.
It also bothers me, because sometimes you'll see a detective just shoot a question off the top of his head to this "forensic scientist," they'll tap out a quick querry into the magic box and out comes an answer. Oftentimes, the question they've asked requires information that they would normally need a supeona to get.
Technology has come a long ways, but, I'm tired of seeing computers used as glorified plot devices. They're not that quick, easy or all knowing. I digress.
Though, again, off topically, I once made a woman from a very right wing anti-sex/violence/drugs on TV organization cry over the phone. She asked seemingly inoccuous questions like, "Don't you think that sex/ violence/ drugs on TV ought to be limited if not eliminated?" Hell no. It ought to be on all the time. Blow for breakfast! Porn for lunch! Gore for dinner! In this day and age of TV ratings, TV locks and.... God forbid, supervising your children, there's no reason for kids to see anything you don't want them to.
I like crime dramas and the genre, but, it's getting to the point where I can't watch it without my blood pressure going up.
Then again, a group of sane, well balenced indivduals peaceably playing D&D or V:TM without killing eachother doesn't make very good entertainment or news, I imagine.

Yeah, I could never figure out; when it comes to computers, video games, and the like, is it that the TV writers and execs are too ignorant to know how they work? Or do they just assume the viewers are morons?

Probably the latter. The last show that believed its audiance had a brain was Star Trek.
Sadly, most people are morons, so they're not that far off.

Regarding what you said earlier, Shannon, about how scientists are depicted in the media: ;D
