"Even if it is his son, he seems more reasonable than his father," Ladonna points out.

"Given the condition of their little group, I doubt he is speaking from a position of power, at this point he is thinking simply of survival." Ryan says. He continues down the path, still looking for herbs.

"We'll see," replies Damon.
The party forges on for a couple of hours, their progress slow due to the undergrowth even on the game trail. It's at this point Tavos comes to a halt and looks puzzled. The game trail they have been following splits into two paths here. One heads southwest while the other heads southeast. He begins searching around for tracks to determine the right way to go.
While waiting, Ryan keeps an eye out for any interesting herbs or plants. But he does not see anything of value.
"Well, which way?" asks Damon, growing impatient.
Tavos looks sheepish. "Uh...I'm not sure. There are lots of tracks here. Goblins, deer, rabbits, all coming and going from both directions. I think we'll just have to pick a way and hope for the best."

Staying back, "Just pick the way with the most goblin tracks, and we'll go from there." Ryan says.

"I would say southwest," Ladonna says, picking out a random direction.

"Southwest sounds good," Damon says. "Let's go."
They continue down the southwest path as the skies grow greyer due to the clouds darkening. "I thought about bringing a horse for this, but it looks like it's impossible to ride in this forest," Damon notes. "So probably for the best. Plus, I didn't know if any of you know how to ride at all."
"I've never been on a horse," Tavos admits.
"Not something I ever learned," adds Bula.

"I prolly ought to learn that too" Ryan says. He thinks that might come in handy given all the crap he is packing along. "Let's just keep moving and find this beast."

"I think that was on the list of things my father was supposed to teach me, but it didn't work out that way," Ladonna says.

"No, I suppose not," Damon replies. The party lapses into an uncomfortable silence again as they continue to tread forward through the forest. Another two and a half hours pass, and it is now early afternoon. A very light drizzle begins around this point. As they are traveling in silence, Tavos--up ahead of the others, suddenly leaps backwards as the ground beneath his feet gives away. He manages to avoid falling into a large pit that had been dug and then concealed. At the bottom of said pit are sharpened sticks pointing upward, smeared with what appears to be feces. Had his reflexes not been quite so quick, likely the half-elf would have fallen in and been pierced upon the sticks. =========== The party travels 5 miles in 2.5 hours. OOC: Barely.
"Seems like we got some effort here now, be careful even if it slows us down" Ryan spits out, "Let's not do anything stupid/" He continues down the path, sidestepping the hole.

"Are you okay, Tavos?" Ladonna asks. She cautiously walks up to the pit, and looks down. "That could have been very nasty."

"Y-Yeah," Tavos replies, taking a moment to catch his breath. "That was close."
Damon approaches the pit and kneels down next to it so he can peer in. "Goblin construction; that much is obvious."
"Maybe they dug it for that monster, the hizzy-krizzy or whatever," Bula remarks.
"Maybe," Damon replies, getting to his feet and dusting off his knees. "Funny that that they failed to mention that before sending us out here, don't you think?"

"Yeah, kinda funny, but I think they had quite a few other things on their minds. I'd guess we are getting close." He takes the opportunity to take another dring to stay hydrated. "Anyone else?" he throws out there holding up the skin.

Ladonna takes the offered water, and then hands it back after taking a drink. "It makes sense that they would have traps set up around here. This is their territory," she says. "It is just like us trying to protect ourselves."

Everyone takes a drink of water and then passes the waterskins back to Ryan. One of them is now completely empty. The party is able to easily maneuver around the pit trap and then continue forward. "I guess now that we know there are traps, I should keep an eye out for more," Tavos states.
As they walk, the rain starts coming down harder. It was almost imperceptible at first, but now it's quite noticeable. Tavos, Damon and Bula have no cloaks, so there is nothing they can do about it but slowly become wet. The ground starts to muddy a bit, causing their boots to slosh.
"Hey, uh, Bula...did you know your father?" asks Tavos.
"What?" the half-orc asks, a bit surprised by the question. "Uh...yeah, I knew him."
"I never knew mine. I was just wondering if you knew yours, since we're both...you know..," Tavos trails off.
"Bastards?" supplies Damon.
Bula snorts. "Maybe you're better off not knowing him, Tavos. I know I would have been."
"What's he like?" asks Tavos.
"He was human. I'd rather leave it at that," Bula answers.
"Was?" repeats Tavos, noting the past tense.
"Worm food now." She shrugs. "He died a few years back."
"I'm sorry," Tavos says.
Bula frowns. "Don't be."
