After earning their freedom, they leave the arena, buy new goods, and split up (Runt and Teakettle going their own way). They purchase passage on a cog, the Usk-Do's Deal, under the goblin captain Reeker. On the ship, Sorrith and Lalora Starshine join the party to protect Ravarie under the orders of their mother, and Dorias rejects the affections of Dhall'a, an ogre stormdancer. In a rage, Dhall'a summons a typhoon that destroys the ship and a pod of dolphins carry the party and the captain, to shore. Reeker joins the party, and they head west toward Varvil. They arrive that evening and go to the inn, where they learn that the village has a lot of problems (including a corrupt lord, some kind of plague affecting the local fish and feral wolves attacking their hunters and livestock each night).
Rannmont 22 - The party meets with Varvil's lord, Glarou, and ask for permission to investigate the plagues. They leave Reeker at the docks to fish and the rest head into the woods to find the wolves. Ravarie uses a spell to communicate with them, and they explain they are being led by a Wolf Queen. This turns out to be a massive black wolf with red eyes and the ability to speak; she claims to be a minor aspect of Takhisis and that she is harassing Varvil because of a deal Glarou made but broke with her. The party works together and defeats her, and the wolves scatter. When they return to town, they find the fish Reeker caught are indeed black and gross inside, as if they had been tainted.
Rannmont 23 - The party, with a water breathing spell from Ravarie, descend into the ocean. After getting some directions from a school of fish, the party finds a cave guarded by koalinth. Not wanting to challenge them while underwater, where the party has a great disadvantage, they returned to the surface. Unsure of how to proceed, they decide to press on to Zhea Harbor and look for help there.
