Flinnton fidgeted with his knife and the half-carved stick for a few moments, then sighed heavily inside, though he didn't betray his emotion outward. He was about to do something that went against the very fiber of his being, that betrayed his outlook on life. A few more long moments passed before he could force himself to action, however. Still, some things had to be done, no matter how painful.
He slipped his dagger carefully into his belt, tucked away his starting-to-look-remotely-like-the beginnings-of-a-flute stick, and tossed the round of wood he had taken from the 'Goblin's pile over to the side of the blacksmith's shop where he could retrieve it later. Steeling his resolve for the horrors that were about to come, he slowly walked in Ingot's direction. "Okay," he said with a pleasantness he did not feel, "let me help you finish up these chores so we can go, alright?"

Ryan too gets up and goes to his Fatheer and gives him a big hug before backing off and shaking his hand. "I'm so glad you could make it!"

Justin smiles at Queenie. "Aye, I have learned all sorts of things while I was away - however, I seem to have not kept up on current events around our fair town. Other than the events that have affected my former homestead directly, has there been any thing of note that has happened during my absence - other than you becoming a ravishing beauty, of course?"
Justin listens to the tale walking a coin on one hand and juggling the others with his other hand. When her tale is done, he says. "They are yours, my queen. Perhaps I would work at the ranch if you told me what your father considered me for - other than a ranch hand that is."

Ladonna and Ryan (Buho Inn) Sennah nods and offers a smile. "It's fine, dear. The whole holiday brings up old memories regardless. But I've gotten used to it by now. Besides, it's important for you young ones to know our history, so you don't let it repeat itself."
Clay chuckles and returns his son's hug and handshake. "Good to see you, son. I've heard that things got kind of interesting while I was gone. Even helped avert another war. Maybe you'll be an Enforcer like your old man someday. Or would you rather take over the temple here when you become kohen? I think Rorak has been considering retirement lately."
Flinnton Lochlass (Outside the Goblin's Tooth/Tenhammer Residence) "Oh, my," Ingot replies. "Are you feeling unwell then?" It's hard to be sure, due to Ingot's complete lack of emotion, but that may have been a joke.
Working together, the two finish the chores in half the time. Afterward, the genasi has not even worked up a sweat yet. Although whether that was due to his strange biology or not isn't clear.
"Well then...shall we head to the inn first? Or check up on my mother at the square?" Ingot asks once they have finished.
Justin Tyme (Oakhill Residence) Queenie blushes and looks away. "Ah, I don't look any different than I did four years ago," she objects. "As for the local news...there ain't much. Probably the most exciting thing to happen was that incident with the goblins two months back, right around the time you came back. Well, you know all about that, right? The Kurtz farm was attacked and poor Otto died. Damon, Sandon's son, went to investigate with a few others and managed to stop another war from breaking out. Been pretty quiet since then. No sign of any goblins, at least. Maybe we really are going to have peace for awhile."
She shrugs. "Aside from that, the only real gossip is whether the baron's ever gonna marry off his daughter or not. Oh, and people are already talking about the Harvest Festival this fall. Funny, ain't it? This festival hasn't even ended yet, and people are already chatting away about the next one."
Scratching the back of her neck, she nods and pockets the five coins then. "If you insist. Anyway...well, you know...our families always were close and all. And, well, I didn't know about it at the time, but I guess back when we were kids, Pa considered arranging a marriage between us. But then you left town, so the idea was dropped, I guess. Finbul's the only other single halfling in the village, but honestly, he gets on my nerves. I'd rather just be a spinster than marry that guy."
(Justin gives 5 SP to Queenie.)
Theronymous Wiggledigit (Village Square) Deciding to trust the gnome, the squirrel climbs up his arm and up to his shoulder. Theron then heads back to the village square. He notices that by now, Flinnton and Ingot have moved on. When he reaches the square, it still looks fairly empty--most of the villagers are likely still in the inn, reciting their favorite war stories.
If anyone has noticed Theron's clothes being a different color than they were earlier, they do not comment on it. The only main difference is he notices that Queenie Farbough, the youngest daughter of the Farboughs, is now sitting and eating with Cooper Oakhill and blushing rather furiously about something.

As he walks past Cooper - no, it's Justin now - and the youngest Farbough, a sneer of jealousy briefly contorts Theron's expression. "I taught him that coin trick!" he mutters to himself. A few paces later, Theron pauses, takes a deep breath, and slowly exhales. Without turning to look back, he continues moving through the square, and his face soon returns to the carefully controlled mask of neutrality he is accustomed to presenting.
Theron makes his way to the area of the square where he saw Tavos earlier. He approaches the young man from behind, sidles up to him rather closely, and clasps a hand upon his shoulder as he greets him. "Tavos the Half-Elven, right? I don't believe I've had the pleasure of making your acquaintance," Theron says. "My name's Theronymous. Rumor has it you were among the group who saved Buho from that nasty business with those goblins at the Kurtz farm. If half of what I've heard is true, I imagine we'd all be fighting a war right now if it hadn't been for you lot. I'd like to express my gratitude. I know it's still early, but...perhaps I can buy you a drink, after you're finished arranging the Augers' pottery?"
(OOC: As Theron clasps Tavos' shoulder, he attempts to pickpocket him (his pick pocket's ability is 50%)) jR52S7FL1-1001-100

"Oh, of course, we should learn from our history," Ladonna says in agreement. "Though, aren't you kind of a hero in your own right as well?" she asked. "You didn't see battle, but you did help create as much flamefists as possible. Everyone focuses on what happened on the battle field itself, but what about behind the scenes? There were small heroes there too, right?" she asks curiously.

Ladonna and Ryan (Buho Inn)"Some might say so, but a hero is more than just a person who saves the day," Sennah replies. "A hero is a symbol, someone that inspires others. That is what made my husband stand out that day. Not that he fought bravely, not that he died...many people did both. But by sacrificing himself for the good of the village, he became something more than just a man. He is the one people think of when they are afraid and need courage. The one our children look up to and aspire to be like. He is now an icon, a legend. And he will live forever as a result." "Someday I'll be a hero like him," Damon mutters. "I just need a chance to prove it." Sennah pats the lad on the shoulder. "I know you will, son. We all expect great things from you some day." Clay laughs and pats Ryan on the back. "That's my boy, a chip off the old block after all!" "Oh, the McIntyres are back together again," Shanson notes, gesturing for them to approach the bar. "How about a nice cold ale, kohen? On the house." "Don't mind if I do," Clay says, taking a seat at the bar. Shanson brings him an ale, which he downs pretty quickly. "How long will you be in for?" asks Judy, sitting next to him. "Just for the day," Clay answers. "I'm supposed to leave in the morning. The church wants me to investigate a report of some kind of plague that's been spreading to the east. Rumor is, it's the elves' doing...something magical, supposedly." Theronymous Wiggledigit (Village Square)Tavos starts suddenly when Theron touches him. "I'm nearly done, I swear!" he cries, whirling around so quickly that Theron doesn't get the chance to pick his pocket--but luckily, Tavos doesn't seem to have noticed the attempt. Upon looking down at the gnome, he gives a sigh of relief. "Oh, uh...s-sorry, I thought you were someone else." He nervously wipes his hands on his pant legs. "Uh, yes, that is me. Tavos the Half-Elven. But, uh, I-I really didn't do much. I was more of a guide. Damon is the real hero. H-He is far more deserving of your g-gratitude than me." Tavos fidgets a bit, and keeps looking around as if expecting someone. Turning his gaze back to Theron, he adds, "Uh, p-pardon me for asking, but is that a squirrel on y-your shoulder?" ( Theron attempts to pick Tavos' pocket [PP 50%] (1d100): 71, fail. But he is not detected.)

"Oh yeah, heh," Theronymous says as he acknowledges the rodent. "That's Mr. Squeaky. He's an old friend. Sometimes..." Theron leans in closer to Tavos, takes a conspiratorial glance around, then looks the half-elf squarely in the eyes before continuing. "Sometimes he tells me people's secrets." He then maintains eye contact for several seconds, as if silently trying to add weight to his previous statement.
With a sudden change in tone, Theron backs up to a normal conversation distance and adds, "You're clearly busy, so I'll refrain from pestering you any longer. It was a pleasure to meet you though. And when you've got time, you should let me buy you that drink -- I'll be around the square for awhile, so feel free to come find me."
Theron wanders away, looking around the square for a suitable area to perform his magician's tricks for awhile.
(OOC: Are there any trees in the town square? Theron is looking for a spot that has a tree or a roof or something overhead that Mr. Squeaky can climb, and preferably it should not be too crowded by the other vendors but still along the flow of pedestrian traffic. Is such a spot available that he can see?)

"You're on your way," Ladonna says to Damon as she leans over a bit to look at him. "After all, we did have our own little adventure not too long ago."

Justin Tyme
"Nay, tis true. You have become even more beautiful than I remember," the halfling says smiling until Queenie speaks of the recent goblin events and the Kurtz farm. "Damon, you say? I'll bet he is inside the Inn. I probably should have a talk with him about this. Do you mind keeping an eye on my spot? I'll give you commission for any sales. One gold is the minimum, but you know how to sell - I'll bet you can sell more than me. Unless your beauty will make my carvings look dull, that is. I am going to the inn - do you want anything?" As he starts heading towards the Buho Inn, Justin looks back and says, "And don't worry - I would always rescue you from Finbul, my queen! I wouldn't let him get on your nerves (or anything else for that matter)." He winks and smiles knowingly as he heads to Buho Inn.

Ryan sees an opportunity to spend some time with his Dad, "Sounds like and adventure. Do you need some help with that?"
(OOC: don't know if that was a hook or just back story.)
Ryan too drinks deeply from his mug.

Ladonna and Ryan (Buho Inn)"She's right about that, you helped avert a second war," Sennah says to Damon. "They don't build a statue of you for stopping a war," Damon mutters. "And the goblins are still out there. Probably just bought them some time to build up their forces. I still think we should have wiped them out when we had the chance. That might come back and bite us in the ass later." Clay chuckles. "Thanks for the offer, but you haven't finished your training yet," he tells Ryan. "Maybe once you're ordained. But for now, you need to focus on your studies. Besides, if we both took off, who would look after your poor mother?" Changing the subject, Judy asks, "When do you think you'll be back in town? Hopefully longer than one day?" "Can't right say," Clay answers. "I might be able to swing back in time for the Harvest Festival this fall, but I can't make any promises." At this point, Cooper Oakhill, the halfling whose family was murdered a short time ago, steps into the inn and looks around. Justin Tyme (Oakhill Residence/Buho Inn)"Uh...o-okay, sure!" Queenie says, a bit caught off guard and blushing still. Justin heads for the inn and steps inside. There are quite a few people here. Most are sitting at tables while a single person stands at the back, telling tales of the war. Looking around the room, Justin spots some familiar faces. Ethen Benton, the grocer and council member, sits at the bar, downing a large quantity of ale. Mattin Tenhammer, the blacksmith and council member, sits at a table with the local priest, Kohen Rorak Hedra. Olaf and Janna Farbough sit together, listening to the stories. Caerlon Osgood (the weaponsmith) sits with Keliath Flamebeard (the armorer). At another table is Sennah Auger (the potter and council member), her son Damon, and Ladonna Marche (the barmaid that helped Damon in his recent adventure). Ladonna's father, Jonas Marche, is standing in the back, currently telling a story about fighting the gobins in the last war. Also at the bar are Ryan McIntyre (acolyte who helped in the recent adventure) with his mother, Judy, and his father Clay. Clay is often sent on missions by the church and is almost never home, so this must be a special occasion. Also present were a few others, including Coha Terek, a young dwarven lass who often frequents the Goblin's Tooth to sing and play music. Theronymous Wiggledigit (Village Square)Tavos blinks a bit at Theron's statement of squirrel secrets. "Well, th-that's...something," he says, a bit speechless. He seems unnerved by the silent eye contact and breaks it multiple times, his eyes darting around. "Uh...s-sure, I'll keep that in m-mind, after I'm done here," he adds at Theron's request to buy him a drink. Once Theron has walked off, he quickly returns to work at setting up the Auger's pottery. (OOC: There are no trees in the square itself. You can see on the map that there are a few just outside the square, including one near the potter and a small cluster across from the Lonely Pony. There is the big statue (15' tall) of Sandon Auger in the middle of the square. There are also the vendor stalls, some of which have roofs, although he'd need to either find one that hasn't been occupied yet or ask permission to perform in front of it from the person who is using it.)

(OOC: Do the stalls have walls, or are they just a roof held up by support beams? How tall are they?)
Theronymous selects one of the roofed stalls with a usable amount of available space next to it. He extends his arm out to one of the roof's supports and instructs the squirrel to climb up to the roof. He waits awhile, until it looks like the stall's occupant has his or her attention directed elsewhere, then passes the wheel of cheese up to Mr. Squeaky (using the support beam to haul himself up within arm's reach of the squirrel, if necessary). "When gnome says 'drop', push food over side," Theron reminds his busy-tailed companion.
Having made those preparations, he withdraws his new cloak and cap from his backpack and dons them. He walks forward until standing parallel with the square-facing end of the adjacent stall, a couple paces off to its side, and proceeds to act as his own barker. "Come one, come all! Witness the most dazzling feats of miraculous wonderment the likes of Buho has ever seen! Watch as Theronymous the Fabulous defies your understanding of the very nature of time and space! For a limited time only!"
Theron pauses his delivery of this spiel and looks around, noticing that the square is still mostly empty aside from some of the local merchants. He sighs heavily. "Well, that was good for practice, I suppose," he reassures himself. "Didn't sound half bad, actually. If I can pull off these new tricks I've been working on, I might just pull in some coin today." With that, he withdraws a couple of gold pieces from his stash and starts going through his usual routine of coin tricks -- making a coin appear to pass through his hand, having it vanish from one hand and reappear in the other, and dancing the coins across his knuckles between tricks.

"Perhaps not, but people are still going to look upon you highly as you adverted a possible war, which saved many lives in the end," Ladonna explains. "It takes a lot of courage to overcome your hate of goblins to work with them so that you may avoid a violent conflict."
