Clay raises a brow at Jherek. "I'm afraid that will have to wait for another time. As I said, I must depart today and will not return for some time. I will try and make it for the harvest festival, though." Jherek heads to the inn, Katya heads elsewhere, and everyone else either goes with one or the other or to Rakit's to pick up a few things. They all meet up at the north gate about an hour later. "Is everyone ready to go?" asks Finbul. Katya concentrates on Clay, but senses no significant evil from him, aside from a bit of hubris. She heads for the Auger place and asks to see Sennah. Damon is very protective of her, wanting to know why Katya wants to see her and seems worried she might have told someone else about what happened. As far as Katya can tell, Sennah is not suffering from a disease, just a mix of stress and old age. (OOC: As her collapsing was the reason for Damon not going, if Katya did manage to cure her, it would mean I'd have to come up with a second reason for why Damon can't go. Therefore, there is nothing Katya can do for Sennah.) =========== Ryan receives three potions of healing, one vial of holy water, and a stone blessed with Continual Light. Jherek receives a map of the Wildwolfe Hills. Garnet is now lightly encumbered. Ingot is now lightly encumbered.

Theronymous takes the time to rearrange some of his gear as the group prepares to march westward. (OOC: Details in the OOC thread.)
After briefly eyeing the group, he nudges Jherek with his elbow. "Hey, Jherek," Theron says in a low voice. "It looks like Garnet's struggling a little bit under her load. Maybe you could offer to ease her burden?"
Once that's accomplished, and it seems like everyone else has finalized their preparations, Theron claps his hands together and flashes a nervous smile. "Looks like we're ready to head out. Jherek, my friend, would you do us the honor of taking the lead? You're the experienced outdoorsman, and I daresay you know our surrounding environs better than any of us."

"Calm down" Katya reassures Damon. "I told Theron and Acolyte Glun that she wasn't feeling well - quietly - because Theron mentioned asking for a few flame fists for our trip. I explained to him why it wasn't a good time, but I'm not going to turn your mother's health into a spectacle. I promise."
When she sees Sennah she's exceedingly polite and friendly with the councilwoman, opening the conversation by asking how she is feeling. Katya apologizes that she can't stay long - she is one of the volunteers looking into Ubisek's information. If Sennah asks she will tell her what has happened with the volunteers thus far, but if she doesn't she won't offer any further details; there is no reason to stress her out further.
The conversation is short. After assuring herself that Sennah isn't sick and talking with her just long enough to be polite she wishes her a speedy recovery and departs. On her way out she takes stock of Damon's demeanor. She trusts her judgment - seizing the opportunity, if he seems like he needs it, to tell him that she thinks he's doing the right thing (though if he doesn't seem like he needs it she would hate to imply that anyone might think he isn't).
She likes Damon, despite his ongoing quarrel with Jherek. Plus she can imagine how upset she would be if her own mother was stricken. That makes it very easy for her to sympathize, even if that is all she can do for him right now. Katya is either the last person to reach the gate or - if anyone else has tarried - at least among the last. She has done her best to pack in a way that keeps her provisions dry, sequestering them away towards the middle of her bag. Her pack and shield together are too heavy for her to full-out-sprint while carrying them, but even slowed she is faster than Theron, Garnet and Finbul. "I'm ready" she confirms for Finbul once everyone is present.

Jherek looks to Theron and nods agreement. "She's not the only one in need of a bit of help today. I'll take what I can, our loads will grow lighter, I figure we can all take some solace in that." He moves among the gathering companions, offering to take as much of the weight onto his shoulders as he can. His load is already heavy, but he can easily shift the weight around abit. If his pack begins to overflow he asks for a large bag to pack away the excess, then straps that bag to the top of his pack.
Once the bit of rearranging is done he will begin to move forward to the head of the group. He tightens his backpacks straps as he walks, and pauses besides Kat, his hand itching the tiniest bit. He reaches out as if to caress her face, then drops his hand to her mailed shoulder. He gives her a reassuring squeeze before finally taking his lead position.
He adjusts his weapons, insuring that four of the axes are within easy reach. That finished he gives a hard look at his companions. They were a a funny looking bunch, a funny bunch of heroes.
"I'll take the lead, I'ld like Finbul nearby." He turns to regard the hobbit. "Your knowledge will be one helluva boon out that way...plus I figure your a good scrapper and I could use a solid flank." Jherek turns and signals for the rest to follow. Assuming they will all fall in some sort of marching order.

Ladonna makes sure that all the stuff she needs, plus her hidden away spellbook is situated. She doesn't make an argument over Jherek taking the lead either. Matter of fact , she situated herself next to Katya because out of the whole group she looks like the one that needs the most protection (aside from Garnet). She wonders silently if she will be able to note any signs of Ethen's lost brother while out in the hills.

Ladonna and Garnet hand over their rations and waterskins to Jherek, and he tries to stuff them in his backpack, but it's beyond capacity. He's pretty sure it's going to rip open at the seams long before they reach the river.
Lillian buys a waterskin and fills it with water before joining the others.
"Yeah, I can handle myself in a fight," Finbul replies.
=============
Ladonna gives Jherek all of her food and waterskin to hold. She is no longer encumbered (MV 12). Garnet gives Jherek all of her food and waterskin to hold. She is no longer encumbered (MV 6). Lillian buys a waterskin for 7 SP and presumably fills it with water.
(OOC: That's a good point, Jherek's backpack is holding 121 lbs worth of stuff, and backpacks have a max capacity of 50 lbs. He's going to need some other way to carry all that stuff, or it's going to burst at the seams and fall apart.
Also, Finbul and Jherek are up front. Let me know where in the marching order everyone else wants to be in the OOC thread.)

Upon seeing Jherek's attempts to overstuff his backpack, Theron says, "Whoa, Jherek! I know you're strong and all, but that pack of yours isn't bottomless. I think it may be full beyond capacity."
After Jherek sets the pack on the ground, Theron spends a moment peering into it before making a suggestion. "Hold on," he says, then rummages through his own backpack, withdraws an empty sack, and hands it to Jherek. "This should at least hold some of that food you're lugging around."
"It looks like we've still got to resituate some more of this stuff, though. Anybody else have any ideas?"

"It's not so bad" Katya reassures Theron. "Ingot, do you mind taking a few of Acolyte Glun's things? It'll make sure the bottom doesn't fall out of Jherek's backpack." Then Ryan shows up, leading three mules, and Katya looks distressed. "Ryan" she says, "you must know that mules aren't going to be able to keep up with us unless we drive them so hard they break. We'd have to work them until they are lame, then..." she trails off and her expression shifts, deepening from exasperation to something a little more inscrutable. She closes the distance between herself and Ryan, coming close enough to put a hand on his shoulder. Then she lowers her voice. "Don't be cruel, Ryan" she whispers. Her blue eyes bore into him with startling intensity, leaving him with the unexplainable impression that she has seen his soul. "You don't need to hurt these animals. You don't need to hurt anyone. Leave them in Buho." She whispers to Ryan for less than ten seconds.

Jherek turns to address Finbul again. Keeping his tone light and jovial."I saw you in the Melee friend. You have skill for sure."
Jherek jokes and jostles his equipment around abit when Theron points out the ludicrous nature of his load. He hands over two of the waterskins to Ingot, thanking the young man for his help. "I'm glad we have another set of strong legs and broad shoulders on this little adventure. I would end up looking like one of Ryan's miles without your help mate!"
Jherek rotates his shoulders. Smiling now that he's readjusted his load, he runs his finger over the nicked haft of that favorite axe, while he watches Kat speak to Ryan. His hands begin to itch so he turns to speak to Finbul again.
"Where did you learn your blade work? I've never seen the sickle used as a proper weapon."

Theron can't help himself when he sees Katya place her hand on Ryan's shoulder and start whispering to him. He stares in their direction just long enough to try to figure out what's being said, then shifts his gaze onto the first thing he sees off to the side or behind them, trying to make it look like his attention is fixed on something else.

Ladonna raises an eyebrow as she notices the three mules Ryan is bringing along on this mission. "I'm pretty sure that is a bad idea," she says. "Though, bad ideas aside, are we all ready?"

Finbul doesn't seem surprised to see the mules. He pulls out the sickle, holds it up to eye level to check the edge, and then says, "Anara taught me. It's a simple weapon, but effective. More than that, it's a symbol for the hard working and oppressed. It reminds me that I fight for them, as nobody else will." He puts the sickle away. Theron, meanwhile, tries to figure out what Katya is telling Ryan by reading her lips. He only understands most of what she says. She says, "Don't be _____, Ryan. You ____ need to ____ these animals. You don't ____ to hurt ______. Leave them in ____." "Let us...head out then," Ingot says. "Time...is wasting." "He's right," Finbul adds, looking over to Katya and Ryan. "What's the hold up?"

"Hey, what are you two talking about over there?" Theron asks Ryan and Katya, pretending to notice their whispered conversation for the first time.
Then, seeing Ryan and Lillian loading some of their things onto the beasts, he says, "And what's the plan with these mules, Acolyte McIntyre? Are we just using them to haul stuff? Are some of us supposed to ride them? Are we gonna eat them?"
Theron cautiously approaches one of the animals, with a look of curiosity and wonder in his eyes that makes him appear strangely child-like. He tentatively extends a hand and touches the mule's muzzle. After a few moments pass without the creature making any move to bite him (or moving much at all, really), he grows braver and begins to gently stroke its snout. A smile, much more innocent-looking than his usually mischievous grin, slowly spreads across his face. "I don't think we should eat them," he mutters, just loud enough to be audible to everyone.
