Ryan pauses and takes ten step backwards, holding up the stone and prepping a spell. He doesn't say a word, instead, listens for activity.

Suddenly, a cracking noise can be heard from the darkness above, and a hail of pointed rock shards is falling upon the party! They appear to be stalactites at first, but the have eye-stalks and seem to be deliberately aiming for the party. Ladonna, Katya, Jherek and Garnet are all struck, but everyone else either gets out of the way in time or is simply missed by the creatures. Ladonna feels her Armor spell crumble, leaving her defenseless. Once down, the creatures seem fairly slow to move and unable to attack further. Katya does not curse when the stalactite-thing hits her, but she does suck in a breath in a matter which suggests that a curse might have very well been a possibility, maybe, if she weren't in the company of two priests and one Ingot.
She draws her sword and dispatches the things methodically. They were unintelligent, and hadn't attacked her out of any malice - and she wasn't destroying them out of any malice either. Only ensuring that they would not hurt her friends again if they had cause to come back this way.
"No sign of goblin activity down here, either." Katya remarks while she works. "This was the furthest down the elevator went, right? Did we miss a side tunnel?"

The piercers are unable to put up any sort of defense, and are quickly dispatched by the party.
"Is everyone...alright?" asks Ingot.
"There were some unexplored tunnels on the second floor," Finbul says. "But there is also more of this cavern still, as well." He points to the east, beyond the range of Ryan's glowing stone.

Theron's acutely sensitive ears perk up a second before the rock pierces fall, and he manages to duck down and roll out of its path just in time. He notices that several of the others aren't so lucky, though.
"Gonto's worthless orbs! What are those things??" he blurts out as the group rallies to form attack lines and destroy the rock-like creatures. Fortunately, the things turn out to be really slow, when they don't have the assistance of gravity to launch themselves, so the adventurers are able to slay them with little difficulty.
"...I think we got them all. Is everyone okay?" he asks, his voice extra squeaky from the adrenaline and exertion. "That could've been really bad. Everyone always forgets to look up."
While the injured members of the party are recuperating (and possibly having their wounds tended to?), Theron explores a little ahead of the group, slowly and carefully picking his way through the jutting spikes of stone and heading eastward.
(OOC: Theron will walk 50 feet eastward or until the eastern wall becomes visible, whichever comes first.)

Ladonna actually lets out a scream as the pain shoots through her body. She really hasn't been wounded much, if at all, during her two journeys so far so this was a new sensation that she isn't quite use to. She looks up at the ceiling angrily for a few moments as she clutches at the wound she just received. "There are a lot of side tunnels that we missed," she says. "After the rats, we decided to come down here. We haven't actually fully explored anything."

Theron moves ahead fifty feet, alone. An unexpected sight greets him at the rear of this forsaken cavern. The final 20 feet or so have been blocked off by a makeshift, portcullis-like wall fashioned from what appear to be rusted iron mining cart rails. The rails are set both vertically and horizontally, and a narrow aperture, blocked by a heavy stone, is situated roughly in the middle of the bars.
He can barely perceive a small humanoid form in the cell, sitting quietly and not moving at all.

Katya inclines her head in agreement.
She's okay with letting someone else take the lead in speaking to the goblin, at least for now. She studies him in silence for just a few seconds.

(OOC: Sorry for the delay, everyone! I should be back to regular posting now.) Theron returns to the others, reporting what he saw. Theron returns from to the group with wide eyes, his speech quickened by eagerness. "To our east, there's a kind of crude prison cell -- and someone's inside! Well, someone, or some thing...I wasn't quite close enough to make out any details, but whoever it is looks small, and they're all alone. If it's a trap, it's a clever one. And if not, maybe they can help us find the Hooded One. Come on!" He wastes no time in guiding his companions back in the direction he'd found the prison cell in. |
