"There is a lot we don't know about Meer," Julak says. "And obviously, if we encounter any sahuagin raids, we'll stop them. But sahuagin raids have been a threat long before this war started, and likely will continue to be after the war ends."
He chuckles when Jaeron walks off. "Well, if even a Gontorite doesn't want to discuss philosophy of all things, it's probably best to let it drop. If there's nothing else, we all should get back to work."

"No official business, no," Julak responds. "Just resupply and a little R&R. I want to check and see if we have any new jobs, as well." "Some R&R sounds great," Mathias says. "Nice as those genasi folks were, it'd be a stretch to call that little excursion 'relaxin'." "Something about a 'Great Meer War,'" he replies. "I didn't recognize the name, but, then again, I've been isolated from the world for quite some time. Have any of you heard of it?" "Nerice mentioned it to me when we spoke," Julak says. "You wouldn't have read about it in any history book, because it's new. Just started a couple of years ago. A massive war in the deep between just about every race there is. Sounds like all hell has broken lose down there." Mathias takes all this in with a grave expression, and remains silent for a long time. "Bodes ill, that does," he finally says. "Looks as though that war's makin' its way to the surface, now. Maybe while we're on Hashadeth we oughta check and see what their government knows about this, see if they've got a plan in place if the fightin' should find its way to their shores."

Julak nods. "But if it does come to that, it's not just Hashadeth that will have to worry about it. All of the islands will. Still, no point on dwelling on it at the present moment."
The crew gets back to work and the rest of the day passes without any real incident. That evening, after traveling well over fifty miles, Julak has the crew lower Nerice back into the ocean so she can return to her people without worrying about the sharks following.
The following day, Bludsin 4th, passes without incident. Kalani feels better after having caught up on her sleep and returns to her normal duties.
The day after that, Bludsin 5th, the Tiaru comes across what appears to be a small fishing ship shortly after breakfast. It has run aground on a sandbar, but there is no sign of any crew on the deck.
After Julak has summoned the party and briefed them on the situation, he says, "I'd like you to take a rowboat over and board the ship. See if you can find out what's going on. It might be nothing, but...I don't know. Something's ominous about the whole thing."
===============
It is now Bludsin 5th. Everyone regains 2 HP. Casters can choose new spells.

"I'm willing to go," Johannes says. "If we encounter trouble, I can use my healing spells, be they needed."
[OOC: Same spells as yesterday, except with Dust Devil instead of Goodberry and Cure Serious Wounds instead of Call Marine Beings.]

"We should be prepared for anything," Kalana says. She starts getting the rowboat ready to leave to check on the fishing vessel.

Mathias nods in response to the captain's orders, then goes with Kalana to help prepare the rowboat for departure. When it's ready, he spends a few minutes examining his pistol to ensure it's in proper working condition, loaded, and ready to fire.

Johannes joins his companions on the rowboat. He doesn't want to make those on the wreck feel threatened, so he decides against bringing his harpoon and armor.

"Not sure," Julak admits. "Could be nothing. Maybe they hit the sandbar and abandoned ship. But, it's odd...we're fairly close to Hashadeth now. Seems like they could have just signaled for help and waited it out, were that the case."
Toven agrees. "Keep your guard up, just in case. We'll do the same over here."
Touchy flies over and circles the fishing boat. Looking down, there is no sign of any activity at all on the upper deck.
The group gets into the rowboat, are lowered into the water and then paddle out to the fishing boat. The sandbar is no threat to a rowboat, so they have no difficulty in reaching their destination. After tying it off, they use rope to climb up onto the deck.
It seems abandoned, and there are no signs of battle but closer investigation might reveal more. There's a single door down to below deck, hanging open. Darkness is within.

Jaeron walks towards the open door to below deck and begins the castings of a spell Light into the darkened room just beyond the door to shed some light on things.

After climbing aboard the wrecked fishing vessel, Mathias stands very still and listens carefully for any noises that may be coming from below deck. When Jaeron casts a spell through the passageway to illuminate the scene, the dwarf draws his pistol and holds it at the ready while he peers down into the belly of the ship.

Kalana draws her two scimitars just in case they are needed as she boards the abandoned ship. She remains quiet for the time being as she cautiously approaches the darkened room after Jaeron casts his light spell to take a look inside.

Both Mathias and Johannes listen carefully, but all they hear is the creaking of the ship's wood and the waves crashing against the ship's hull. It is deathly silent on the boat, aside from that and whatever sounds the party themselves are making.
Jaeron prays to Gonto to reveal that which is in darkness, and a light appears just beyond the entrance to the lower deck, illuminating the area. From what they can see from their vantage point, the walls, ceiling and floor are completely covered in some kind of elastic, spongy purple fungus.
