Very well, then. On with it!
This game would use four main buttons, two shoulder buttons, and a joystick. The main buttons (let's call them A, B, X, and Y) all correspond to an attack, with one exception. A is melee attack, B is ranged attack, X is special (boost yourself or hinder your opponent), and Y is jump. You chain together the first three in different orders to preform combos. Some attacks have aerial variations, and some can be altered by tilting the control stick. One shoulder button is Block, and the other is Grab. Grab bypasses Block, Block shields from attacks, and attacks hit through Grab.
I have a few rules/guidelines for selecting characters to be in the hypothetical game.
1. No more than two characters per player.
2. Since a characters moveset is derived from their in-game capabilities, they must have access to a Melee Attack, and Ranged Attack, and a Boosting Maneuver in order to be in the game.
3. Each character should bring something unique to the table, to ensure that every character has their niche and that top-tier characters don't dominate the hypothetical metagame. (And also to prevent said character from being boring)
Rules and Guidelines In ActionHere are some scenarios that relate to the rules and guidelines above.
Say
HorizonsDream, having caught word of this creation of mine, wished to include Ladonna in it. I would then look at Ladonna's character sheet and find ideas for Melee, Ranged, and Special attacks. Her quarterstaff could serve as the first, and her wide variety of Enchantment spells fit the last to a t, but she has no viable option for Ranged attacks, making her a poor choice for a fighter.
Meanwhile, Theron and Jherek would both be pretty good choices for fighters. Melee and Ranged attacks are easy enough, and Theron has his magic while Jherek would have some sort of counter manuever. However, they would both incorporate Thief-like movements and abilities in their combos, which makes Jherek a little repetitive, or even bland, compared to Theron, due to the latter's magic. Therefore, Jherek is not a good choice for a fighter.
Well, that was significantly longer than it needed to be. In honor of Ezeze, I will do Katya's moveset first.
A: A slash from her longsword.
A, A, A: Three slashes from her longsword, with the final knocking back the opponent.
B: Katya shoots a bullet from her sling at the opponent.
B, B: Katya shoots a sling bullet, then throws a dagger. This attack can be angled.
A, A, B: Katya slashes twice, then stabs her dagger down.
B, B, A: Katya shoots a sling bullet, throws an angled dagger, then does a spinning slash in the direction of the thrown dagger with another dagger.
X: Katya stands in a stance with her sword shielding her. If an opponent attacks her in this stance, she is protected and retaliates accordingly.
A, A, X: Katya slashes twice, then charges up a powerful swing that deals even more damage if she is attacked.
X (hold): Holding X activates Divine Stance. Pressing A while in Divine Stance summons a Circle of Power, which boosts Katya's attack while she stays within it. Pressing B activates Aura of Protection, which decreases damage dealt to Katya for a brief time.
Left Shoulder: Katya grabs the opponent, pushes the forward a little, then kicks them back.
