Djan uses his magic to strengthen his draconic hide before moving right into the midst of battle. Immediately, one of the goblins is waiting for him and slashes him with his blade, but thankfully the wound is not as bad as it could have been without the cantrip.
The chieftain, up on his ledge, quickly grabs hold of the trussed up Sildar and uses the old man as cover, should anyone think to try and attack him while he watches the battle unfold.
Another goblin readies her bow and climbs up the nearby stairs, then fires an arrow at Orianna. It embeds into her arm, the leather armor she wears stopping it from going too deep, but not enough to prevent it from drawing blood.
Iroas, slowed by his armor, finally catches up to the dragonborn and jumps in to help. He swings his mace at a goblin, clobbering him good, but not taking her out of the fight completely yet. He quickly throws up his shield in time to block an arrow, but this leaves him open for the goblin he just attacked to counter, slicing deep across his gut. Gritting his teeth, but refusing to yell out, Iroas re-steadies himself.
Orianna comes to the cleric's rescue, firing an arrow right into the attacking goblin's throat. She staggers and sputters, before going down. Iroas looks over his shoulder and nods his thanks to the tiefling, before turning his attention back to the fight.
The final goblin then swings his sword at Djan, cutting him, but the cantrip keeps him from taking too much damage.
Finally, Fosco slips in and starts shouting insults at the first goblin that swung at Djan. "Hey, you big dummy, you couldn't cut butter with that dull knife!" The goblin takes a step back in surprise, his confidence shattered for the moment.

However, Blade Ward reduces that by half, so he takes 2 slashing damage. Djan is now seriously wounded.

Djandaar curses between gasps of pain from the two scimitar blows, either of which might have been lethal if not for the protection of one of his favorite cantrips -- a cantrip whose effect is rapidly diminishing. The dragonborn takes a few steps back until he's standing beside Iroas, who likewise sustained nasty injuries very recently. Grunting to suppress the distraction of the twin lacerations, Djandaar fans out his claws and begins chanting the words to another spell.

Ignoring the small twinge of pain her arm from the arrow, Orianna changes her target to goblin 4 now that goblin 5 is out of the way.

The male goblin facing Djan slashes at him again, cutting across the dragonborn's stomach. Somehow, against all odds, the blade ward keeps him alive. He unleashes the cone of flame, which completely engulfs not only the offending goblin, but the female next to him, as well. Their blackened corpses hit the ground before the gout of flame finishes burning out.
Orianna nocks another arrow in her bow, but the goblin archer on the stairs is faster. The tiefling takes an arrow to the chest, staggers, and hits the ground. Meanwhile, Iroas charges forward, then slams his mace across the face of the other archer, knocking him out in one blow.
Fosco, multi-tasking, quickly casts a spell that not only revives Orianna, but heals all of her previous injuries, as well. When she comes to, she finds that the only goblin left standing, aside from the chieftain, is the one that shot her. Fosco then points at that remaining archer and yells, "Hey, flatface, no matter how many times you bring one of us down, we'll just get back up again. You're doomed!" The goblin flinches visibly as her confidence breaks.
The chieftain, who has witnessed the whole fight from above, quickly takes action. He brings his scimitar up to Sildar's neck, and shouts in Common, "Parley! Truce! Let's make a deal. You lot seem capable enough. Do me a little favor, and I'll let you walk out of here with this human. Otherwise, I'll kill him right now!"

Orianna is a little shocked by all that has taken place. She knows that she was taken out, but now she feels fine. Matter of fact, she feels better than she did. ~No time to worry about that,~ she thinks to herself as she pulls back her bow with an arrow knocked towards the chief goblin. "We're listening," she says.

The fighting comes to a halt at the chieftain's threat. The remaining archer goblin nocks an arrow and points it threateningly at the party, should they make any sudden moves.
"It's simple," the chieftain says. "I am Yeemik, the rightful leader of the Cragmaw Tribe. But that self-important Klarg has taken over, and I want him gone. Cross the bridge into the eastern side of the cavern and eliminate him for me. Do this, and I'll let this prisoner free and allow you all to walk out of here alive."
"Don't...don't trust him..," wheezes Sildar groggily.
Yeemik tightens his hold on Sildar, pressing his blade deeper into the old man's neck so that it draws a drop of blood. "You don't have a choice. You will comply or the human dies. Your choice."

Orianna looks at the rest of the group. "We came here to save them," she says. "I'm not sure if I would be quick enough before he kills the man."

"It seems we have little choice," Iroas says. He adds quietly, "Even if you could act fast enough, both Djandaar and myself are in bad shape."
"On the bright side, we were probably going to wind up fighting him anyway, right?" asks Fosco.

Orianna lets out a sigh and puts down her bow. "I'm not really sure we should be getting involved in these goblin affairs, but we don't have a choice. We should heal up before facing off with that other goblin though."

Djandaar manages to straighten his posture and project his voice despite his grievous wounds. Ignoring the chatter among his teammates, he bellows, "The human? Not interested...we've already got one, see?" He gestures to Iroas slowly and deliberately as he says this, both to avoid spooking the archer and to keep from aggravating his injuries. "If you want us to spare your life, you'll have to make us a better offer. And as for your request for additional favors...I'm afraid your negotiating position just isn't good enough." With his reptilian head held high, Djandaar folds his arms and awaits the chieftain's response. |

Yeemik snorts. "Either you do what I say, and then walk out of here with the prisoner alive, or you refuse, in which case, I kill the human, then I kill all of you, too. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but if you're too dumb to see that..," he says, gesturing to the archer. She pulls back on the bow, aiming the arrow directly at Djan's face, then holds, waiting for her chieftain's signal to let the arrow fly.

The dragonborn glares a death stare at Iroas, then yells to the goblin chieftain, "We graciously accept your terms, then." Much more quietly, he angrily mutters, "I was trying to get him to offer us the dwarf. That's the one we're after, right? Seems he doesn't know where he is, though, or I'm willing to bet he'd have offered him to us."

"We know he is around here somewhere as that is his bodyguard that the goblin is holding," Orianna says to Djan. "So, let's deal with his...request and we might be able to learn what has happened to him."
