Daos will use the rope to tie up the two goblins, both their arms and legs. He'll then wait for them to wake up.

"If we're going to wait we should do it under some cover" Bayla motions towards the forest. She grabs the goblins and gets everyone to move behind the tree line. While Daos watches their new prisoners she pokes around between the trees, looking for anything dangerous or useful, while keeping the others in sight.

After a couple more hours, the goblins come to. "I said as long as you don't hurt me," one groans, dazed.

"Sorry about that," Daos apologizes. "She acted before I could. But you have your lives, and you can still have your freedom, if you answer a few questions. What do you know about the large group that entered the forest here? Or about the attack on Meyerville, the settlement to the southeast?"

"Yeah, well we'll never tell you!" the archer goblin declares. "It's part of our mercenary's code: never rat out your employer!" His compatriot shoots a glare at him.

"Pah!" Bayla practically spits. She saunters over to the goblins.
"Th'ell the likes of you know about being a merc? A merc's a hired soldier, and soldiers don't keep their allegiances a secret. It's what they carry those great banners for. It's why the more knightly types get their crest painted on everything that will hold still long enough."
"Besides" she continues. "I don't think there's a soul out here able to pay well enough for you to die to keep their secret."

"That's what I told him!" the first goblin says. "He kept saying 'ooh, I'm a mercenary, I'm so cool,' and ignored me when I let him know that we were just hired thugs."
"I do not sound like that..." whined the second goblin.
"We were hired by an orc who said he was with the Lun-Chu tribe," the first explained, ignoring him. "Our job was to hide here and stop anyone from following them. As you can see, we failed that job horribly."

"Lun-Chu?" Bayla confirms. "That's weird. They've never been known to burn towns. Hell, they're about as close to pacifistic as orcs get..."
She nudges Daos "meaning they only raid for necessities."
"I guess a lot has changed over the years."
"Let's untie these idiots. I want my rope back. Hey - if you actually want to be mercs, you need to go up two towns and knock on the door of the Cobbler's Daughter. It's a tavern frequented by a few different companies. Most are ok, just avoid the Black Wardens. You'll know 'em from their sigils - all black with three little white dots and a triangle-thing. They'll offer you the best pay, but that's 'cause no one would work for their commander if they didn't. That moron couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel. He'll get you killed before you can spend your first payday. Sign with anyone but them and you'll do fine."

"Wait, though," Daos says. "What of the people of Meyerville? Did these Lun-Chu take them prisoner?"

"Yeah, or at least, a whole lot of them," the first goblin answers.
"Oh, and there was one who looked really important! He was up at the front, and he had four orcs guarding him! Four!"
"Anyway, can you untie us, now?"
Melvin obliges them and hands the rope back to Bayla. The two goblins, meanwhile, thank the group and head in the direction she pointed them in.

As the goblins leave, Daos rubs his goatee in thought. "An important one? The mayor, perhaps?" He unfurls the map he found earlier and checks it again. Does it show the forest they now stand before?

It does, in the form of a cluster of trees drawn right next to the first town.
"We better hurry up," Melvin says. "We need to catch up to those orcs before they destroy that other town, as well."

"Someone important enough to pay well, I'm sure. Probably whoever sent for us to begin with." Bayla remarks.
"The next time I see you, you better be flying friendly company colors!" Bayla shouts after the retreating goblins. "Otherwise I'll kill you where you stand!"
She shrugs once more in a way that says she considers that situation well and truly resolved and continues to follow those tracks through the woods.

"If they haven't already," Daos says, rolling the map back up and placing it back in his satchel. "Remember, the tracks we saw suggested the orcs not only went this way, but came from this direction, as well. It's possible they've already sacked this other town, and are now using it as a base of operations for further incursions. But to what end, I cannot say." He shakes his head. "In any case, according to the map I found, the village should be beyond this forest. So here goes nothing. Stay alert. Even if those two goblins were the only ones left behind to ambush followers, there is no telling what manner of hostile creatures may lurk within these woods."
With that, he follows after the others, keeping an eye on their rear for any danger.

As you walk through the shaded forest, you feel a sense of incompleteness from it; as if it had fallen from former glory. Rotting stumps and piles of dead leaves litter the ground, and the occasional fresh carcass, stripped of useful body parts, confirms that people have been through here recently. By the time you exit the woods, night has fallen.
