"Well I've got no problem continuing in the dark" Bayla brags, loudly. "But I still got to sleep sometime, and I figure the two of you probably wouldn't be able to keep up now that the sun is down anyway, eh?" She elbows Daos, a jovial gesture intended to show that she is kidding, but which she may have put just a little more strength into than strictly necessary.
"Three watches means four hour watches each, which is better than the eight hour watches we'd need if there were just two of us-" she drops a hand on Mel's shoulder. "That's assuming we can trust Mr. Night Dagger not to stab us in our sleep, yeah?"

"I can also see in the dark, and could continue going," Daos says. He gives a grunt of pain at the elbow and absently rubs at his chest. "But orcs are at their best at night, so better to catch up to them in the light of day. And we will want to be well rested when we catch them, regardless of how things play out. I'll volunteer for the first watch."

Melvin glares at Bayla. "For your information," he says. "I have nothing against Half-Orcs like you, unless they choose to side with their...less savory parentage. Anyway, I'll take last watch, if you're so worried about me."

Bayla grunts. "Satisfies me. Middle watch works just fine." She digs into the rations she grabbed from the unburned house earlier in the day, then unfurls her bedroll to settle in for the night.

"Probably best if we don't have a fire tonight," Daos adds. "It might alert the orcs we are pursuing. Although it will be very inconvenient, I'd rather prioritize safety over comfort."

As his companions soon drift off to sleep, Daos stands guard, alert to any signs of movement in the shadowy terrain. The first few hours pass without incident, but midway through the third, he sees a figure, all but obscured by cover of night and trees, walk past the camp and into the forest. Seconds later, he hears the loud crack of a stick being stepped on.

"Show yourself!" Daos warns the stranger, getting to his feet. He quickly prods Bayla and Melvin with the butt of his staff to wake them up, then peers into the darkness to try and make out some detail of the interloper.

Bula grumbles "this better not be a squirrel" when Daos's staff pokes her in the ribs. She tosses over onto her left side, reaches out for the axe lays beside her before she slept, grips it and pulls herself out of her bedroll before she even opens her eyes.
She looks around for the source of the disturbance, ready to beat it to a bloody pulp so she can go back to sleep.

Melvin instantly jumps out of bed, sword drawn. You here a high-pitched shriek, and a Kobold timidly walks out of the bushes, hands in the air.

"Oh, it's not even a squirrel!" Bayla complains.

Lowering his staff, Daos asks the kobold, "Who are you and why are you sneaking upon our camp? Are you another mercenary hired by the Lun-Chu to stop us?"

"Well, I was," he nervously explains. "Sort of. I used to work for them, help scope out towns that could deal with an invasion, the like. Then, one day, some human came up and declared himself 'chief advisor' or something to the Lun-Chu boss. He seemed a little weird, but I didn't think anything of it. Then, just yesterday, I was sneaking around, looking for something worth pinching, when I heard him talking to someone. I couldn't hear what they were saying, so I decided to investigate. I walked up and tried to listen at the door, but it turns out it was every so slightly open, not closed, and I fell in. The guy got all mad at me, yelling 'Were you listening' and 'How much did you hear,' the like. So I answered him, but he just scowled and threw me in a cage, then threw the cage out of his room. Luckily, I was able to slip through the bars-they make those cages for humans, not kobolds, you know-and run away."

"So you were in Meyerville when it burned?" Bayla gruffs.

"And you found your way here?" asks Daos. "What exactly was it that you heard that this human was so worried about?"

"So you were in Meyerville when it burned?" Bayla gruffs. "Wait, they burned that place down?!" he says, shocked. "I wouldn't have expected that of them...no, I got kicked out a few days before they marched off; I didn't know they were planning to burn down a town." Turning to Daos, he says, "I didn't hear much, but I think he way saying something about somebody hiding out in Meyerville...which would explain why he had the Lun-Chu attack it."
