Katya rubs the bridge of her nose with exasperation.
"They will not take us to Ghalt with our weapons. They insist they know a safe way to him."
She thinks a bit further, then suggests - in Tardish before she mentions it to the goblins - "what if only a few of us go? I could leave my weapons with whoever stayed here, as could anyone else who wanted to come, with the understanding that the rest will come for us if we do not return."

"Katya," Ladonna says. "These goblins, from my understanding and simply watching them this whole time, are all over the place," she explains. "They are clearly disorganized, and they have changed their minds multiple times since we have been here. We cannot trust them to keep their word if we give up our weapons, so that isn't an option," she says. "Also, who is Ghalt? You've mentioned the name before."

Lillian just stands back and watches Katya converse with the goblins. Lillian uses her Comprehend Languages ability, since I'm tired of not knowing what's going on.

Katya bites down on the frustration she feels when Ladonna says 'no.' There isn't anything she can say that will justify why she is so eager to visit the temple, or explain why she's ready to put her own life in danger to avoid confrontation here.
"You know as much as I do about Ghalt. It's someone living in the temple who they want us to meet, who seems to have some sort of authority here - if a word like 'authority' could ever be used in the context of Crizzites. Probably a senior goblin, or a strong one."
"They will not allow us into the temple armed. We must go into the temple. Much of our group does not want to disarm, and I cannot blame them, yet someone needs to go into the temple. I am open to suggestions, because I do not have any more."

"Perhaps if you could...explain your reasoning..," Ingot suggests. "If we understood...why you are so certain...this is not a trap...it would help assuage...our own concerns."
(OOC: Comprehend Languages requires touching a person or object to understand them. So Lillian will need to touch someone first, and she will then be able to understand them, and only them.)

Katya hesitates for just a moment. Her eyes sweep the assembled goblins. Detect Evil?

Everyone looks to Katya in anticipation, even the Rabid goblins who clearly cannot follow this conversation at all if their expressions are any indication.
Katya does not sense any Evil from the goblins or the hounds.

Ladonna walks over to Garnet while Katya is looking at the goblins, and starts speaking gnomish to Garnet. "I feel like the rest of us are in the dark," she says to Garnet. "Aside from you and Katya, and Katya seems to be hesitating quite a bit when it comes to this situation. What has been going on that the rest of us don't know about?" she asks.

"I'm a paladin" Katya finally says.
"I can see their souls. That is why I am willing to trust them."

Ladonna looks up from her conversation with Garnet with wide eyes towards Katya. "Wait. You're a Paladin of Gonto?" she asks. "And you can see that they don't actually mean us any harm, or that they are going to be true to their word?"

Garnet answers Ladonna with uncertainty.
"I'm...not sure. This is all very strange. I'm having trouble following all of this," she admits in Gnomish.
Katya's little bombshell gets everyone talking, except the goblins who are starting to look annoyed and impatient.
"Wait, what? A paladin?" Liala asks.
"Really? Paladins of Gonto can tell if someone is lying, so...that's how you know they are being truthful?" Garnet asks.
"A what?" Nak'skree asks, not following this at all.
"Since...when?" asks Ingot. "Why would you...hide this from us? And would a...paladin of Gonto...not wish to smite...Crizzite non-believers?"

"A paladin of Gonto would want to save Buho, including your father" Katya tells Ingot, with more than a little impatience in her voice.
She moves on to other questions quickly "... Since early this summer."
"I can't tell if people are lying. Not exactly." Katya says, truthfully. "Though that may be because I'm inexperienced, just as Kohen Hedra can tell but Garnet can't. I can see the quality of someone's soul, though, and these goblins are no worse than many of the people of Buho."
"... It's how I knew to trust Nak'skree. It's how I knew that Thrul had to die - his soul was vile. It's how I cured Theron, then Garnet, then Ryan of that awful sickness they contracted marching through the swamp - but I can't do that very often, so we need to stop the disease in Buho from spreading any further here."
"and, as for your question of why I haven't said anything before now..."
"My instructions were just to be ready, because Buho would need me. Which is why I started sparring with the village guard. Which is why I've been more stringent about coming to sermon, lately. But understand just a few months ago I didn't really know the people of Buho and I didn't know what being a paladin meant. It was scary."
"It's still kind of scary."
"But if knowing why I trust these goblins helps you decide whether or not to trust them, too, then I guess I need to come clean."

Ladonna takes a moment to consider all of what Katya has said, and looks towards the goblins that are obviously growing impatient. "Okay," she finally says. "This situation is not ideal, not like any of these situations would be ideal," she admits with a sigh. "But I'm willing to put my full trust in you on this matter. If we give up our weapons, and these goblins betray us, whatever happens is on you, Katya," she says sternly. "If you can handle all of that responsibility, then I'll leave my weapons behind."

"Well, I trust you regardless of Paladinship," Lillian says. "If you think we can trust these goblins, I'm all for trusting them."

"We can trust them at least far enough to get us talking to Ghalt" Katya says. She tries to keep the relief from showing in her voice now that it seems her gambit is working, with limited success.
