I'm struggling to figure out 2E, I've got 16 strength, which is in the top 10% of humans, but my weight allowance is only 70 lbs?!? So plate mail, shield, broad sword, and two hand axes is 74 lbs? So I'm always encumbered ...
I just find it frustrating that there's such a huge difference between 16 & 18 which are both in the top 10% of strength. When I swing a sword I'm doing 2d4+1 while a guy with 8 strength does 2d4. It's just hard to wrap my head around the fact that stats don't matter.
And just to clarify, we've got 900gp to spend on starting equipment, and no magic items right?

And just to clarify, we've got 900gp to spend on starting equipment, and no magic items right? Correct. And welcome to 2E, where the rules are made up and the stats don't matter. As far as encumbrance goes, there are a few ways around that. Having a mount or pack animal or hireling to carry your gear for you, for instance. You could also, instead of plate mail, get masterwork banded mail. Same AC, but actually 15 pounds lighter and 100 STP cheaper.

Looks good so far.
So you're putting his free Myrmidon weapon specialization into bastard sword, but what weapon did you spend your original weapon specialization slot--the one for the fighter class?
Any idea what era your character specializes in on Ancient History? The Time of Knights?
I have a house rule that states all NWPs only cost 1 slot, so she can have Endurance for 1, meaning she still has one left over.

Fughters get a free weapon specialization, on top of the one I have from the Myrmidian kit?
Can I take that with a shield, so my shield slam gets +1 to hit and +3 damage as well?
If not I'll likely go with a Lance. Probably changing my Wpn Spec to broad sword as it does more damage than a bastard sword, 2d4 is slightly better than a d8.

I'm afraid weapon specialization can only be spent on actual weapons. So heavy lance it is.

With the extra NWP, could I take Animal Handling, and train a hunting falcon, without having to pay a GP cost on it? Money's tight trying to fit a Heavy Warhorse, with saddle tack & such on top of decent armor, shield and lance. I'm seeing why Knights often had patrons or lords to cover the cost of this stuff!

A trained falcon costs 1,000 STP. Is that all? Maybe some dragonlances and a flying citadel, too? Tell you what, I'll agree to this on the condition that she starts the game 1,000 STP in debt. Maybe that can be part of the reason she's out adventuring. Maybe her family has hit hard times, and they're going to lose their keep, and that's how much more she needs to pay to keep it, or something like that.

I was more thinking of a falcon who she raised and trained on her own.
I'm fine being in debt, perhaps doctor's bills for her crushed leg ... that's why her dexterity is only 6, and she got kicked out of the order, not for anything that she'd done, but because her injury caused her to dex fall below the required level.

That's fine. Keep in mind that you can come up with any backstory you like for her gear. You could say her broad sword is a family heirloom passed down among three generations, but you would still pay 10 STP to buy it at character creation.

So 35k xp and lvl 6 you said?
lvl 6 hd: EsUFXHih1d8+1
A lot of the little gear I liked I forget how much he got it for back in the day:
smoking pipe and tabac leather pants, leather hooded cloak (because fire)
fine chain sling (because fire, think it was 1 stp?) bandages?

Thank you Drew Carey! Let's hear a big hand for Colin Mocharie and Ryan Stiiiiles!!1!1
*cough*
my bad.
By the way, i just saw your comment in the basic info thread buried in "nwp cross skills" about all NWP costing 1 slot, so he will go ahead and make his lvl 6 prof the Danger Sense version from Complete Humanoid.
General, (Wis +1) => Danger Sense (17)

Smoking pipe = 2 STP Tobacco = 1 STP per pound Leather pants = 2 STP Fine chain sling = 200 STP Bandages? BANDAGES?! We don't need no stinkin' bandages! I mean, let's say 2 silver for a hundred.
