It is Mirtul 6th, 21 days after having left Luskan, that the party at long last reaches their destination, the fishing town of Targos, one of the Ten-Towns of Icewind Dale. Targos is a small city, and yet still the second largest settlements among the Ten-Towns. It sits on the southernmost shore of a large lake, along a series of high cliff walls that shelter the port from the savage winter winds. The city itself is also surrounded by a wall for added protection. There is at least one section of the city, however, that is blackened and burned, as if there was a terrible fire there once and they never rebuilt.
Peddywinkle guides the caravan to the Wolf's Pelt Inn. This one-story, 40-foot by 80-foot structure faces the lake so that the fishermen see the front door and the widows walk patio as they dock their boats. The inn appears run down, but this is more a matter of the incredibly harsh weather of the region than any lack of attention by the proprietors.
After the wagons, horses and mules are all stabled, Peddywinkle hands each of the party their reward--fifty gold pieces, as promised. "Now then, rest up, do whatever shopping you need, and enjoy a good meal. I have business to attend to, but I will return this evening...possibly with more work for you, so please stick around until then." Peddywinkle then departs.
Taska grins, eagerly adding the coin to her own pouch. "I don't know about you boys, but I could use a hot meal and a cold ale." She heads inside the inn.
Krah, however, frowns while looking at the building. Ever since they stepped foot into town, Krah has kept his thick cloak tightly around him, with his hood up to obscure his face. Despite this, he is still the tallest in the group by far, so stands out regardless.

"What's worrying you, friend Krah? Have you enemies in this town?" Malavar asks the barbarian.

Drezden puts his coin away and wonders how folk will treat Krah here. "I don't think that's the dilemma, I'm thinking he is worried about what the locals will do and how they will treat him." turning to Krah the ranger asks "How about we go for a walk outside the city Krah?"

Krah shakes his head. "No...this will only delay things. I will have to face this sooner or later, if I am to continue traveling with you." Steadying himself, Krah steps through the door and into the common room. "It is...so warm in here," he comments, glancing over at the roaring fire in the hearth.
The inn is full of hardy lake folk with watchful eyes and leathery skin, people who obviously spend their days out of doors. They glance occasionally in the party's direction, but they dont seem particularly interested in them.
Behind the bar is a very large man in his late thirties, at least 6'3 in size with reddish brown hair, rich brown eyes, and a full beard. His dull green and brown clothes are well worn. "Welcome strangers," he says. "I am Kalas Winters, the owner. Make yourselves at home."
An attractive and boisterous woman in her early thirties with long black hair and brown eyes approaches them. "And I'm Beatrid Winters, the hostess." She looks over the group. "Such a strapping bunch of handsome lads you are! You must be exhausted from your travels. What can I get you? Something to eat, something to drink? We have rooms available, too, both common and private. Just let me know, I'm happy to help."
In addition to these two, there are a few other staff members about. A young boy, a few years younger than even Dell, sweeps up the common room. He has short black hair and his familys trademark brown eyes. A rather conspicuous sheathed dagger sits on his belt, positioned in such a way as if to show it off. He eyes the party suspiciously.
There's a somewhat plain looking young woman in her late teens with long reddish blonde hair and blue eyes behind the bar, watching the party, as well. She eyes the men in particular, particularly the more handsome ones.
Another young woman, in her early twenties, with short blonde hair and green eyes is waiting tables. She mostly ignores the party, and seems to have an aloof demeanor toward the customers she is serving.
Finally, to those paying attention, there is a third young woman, also in her late teens, who peeks her head out of the kitchen to see what the fuss is about. She has long black hair, huge brown eyes, and she's quite attractive. When Beatrid notices her, she shoos her back into the kitchen with a gesture.

Drezden smiles and says to Beatrid "I think most of us are for a drink and hot meal any specials today?" he asks making way to the nearest table that is open and not too close to the hearth.

"Good day to you as well, Mistress Beatrid. A meal and something to drink, certainly, and I shall also require a private room. Does your establishment offer hot baths or is there a bathhouse of some description in town?"

"Miss I will take a hot meal, a drink and a room please." Dallion makes to sit at the table with the Dwarf. "I think we will want to be careful while we are in town."

"If you're looking to warm up, we have hot toddies and hot ciders for drinks, each costing 2 coppers a cup," Beatrid says. "And a very nice fish stew for 5 coppers a bowl."
Looking around, Drezden notes that most of the tables have at least one person sitting at them already. But the keen eyed dwarf spots one table in the back that is open, not too close to the hearth, and large enough to accommodate all eight of them.
"Of course, of course," she says. "The common is five silver a night, and we still have 10 empty cots left for it. Private rooms are a gold a night, have two beds and a bath; there are three rooms left available. If you like, I can start heating up the water now for your bath."
"Certainly, certainly, I'll see to it," she adds. "That leaves one private room left then."
"The common room is good enough for Dell and me," Rafferty says, also ordering a meal and drink for himself and Dell.

Drezden feeling adventurous orders "I think I'll try the fish stew and have the hot cider you mentioned Beatrid thank you." the dwarf sits in the seat where he can best see everyone else and hopefully have a wall at his back then hands Beatrid payment for the food and drink. "I might ask for a room after not sure if i need a private one yet."

"Excellent, yours is clearly a quality establishment Mistress Beatrid!" Malavar replies with a smile. "I'll have the stew and some hot cider for now, and please do send someone to get my bath ready."
He hands Beatrid a gold piece for the room and a silver for the food and drink, then joins Drezden at the table.

Beatrid hurries off to get their orders as the party sits down at the table Drezden found. "Gosh, there are a lot of pretty women working here," Dell notes. "You think any of them are married?"
Taska chuckles. "I didn't realize you were already in the market for a wife, Dell."
Dell turns beet red. "Wh-what? No, I was just...m-making conversation, is all!"
Rafferty snorts and shakes his head. "He has a lot of growing up to do before he can start a family."
"Well...adventurers don't have families. They don't get married, do they?" he asks the others. "Or that's what I've heard."

Drezden "Some do. I've heard about some adventurers that are husband and wife out there adventuring still." the ranger chimes in "But it is rare in this line. Usually adventurers eventually settle down when they're older and weary of travel, least some I've met have done that."

Looks towards Dell and smiles at the young man and nods when he hears what the Dwarf had to say. " Its actually for the best in this line of work to have as very few ties to other people. "

"Drezden and Dallion are being overly dramatic, lad. Adventurers are no different than any other mercenaries. They live by the sword and may quickly die by the sword, but that's hardly a reason to avoid 'entanglements'. The best men and women fight for something more than gold and glory, and there are few causes worthier than protecting and providing for your family. Of course, there are certainly safer ways to do that," Malavar laughs.

"Personally, I never saw the point of tying yourself down to one person for the rest of your life," Taska says. "Especially for you elves and dwarves, who live much longer than we humans do. Can you even imagine waking up to the next person every day for centuries? It baffles the mind."
"This is a thing warm-bloods do?" asks Krah. "In my own tribe, the strongest have their pick of mates, and the weak are not allowed to breed at all."
"Gosh," Dell replies, not sure how else to respond to that.
