Katya"You may well be right about that," Mereida agrees. "She's certainly made a name for herself in the last year. As have you, of course." Lillian"I didn't choose him, or anyone. I was addressing the whole room, he was just the one who answered," Finbul replies.
"Because you do this every single year. Don't you get tired of ruining every festival and holiday? Don't you get it? Nobody cares. We just want to have fun," Damon argues.

"Ah," Ladonna says. She is somewhat disappointed as she always liked the Fryes. "Just the Solstice special I guess," she finally says. She was kind of hungry anyway.

“I agree that tolerance is the spirit of the season,” Lillian admits. “But for you to argue for that is nothing short of hypocrisy. You can’t tell me that what Finbul has been taught on the history of the holiday is any less valid than what’s been taught to you. The very notion that Humans invented the entirety of the Winter Solstice celebration, along with its traditions, is frankly unfeasible. Could they had invented most of it? Possibly. Did they invent all of it? Almost definitely not.” Lillian sighs deeply. “Of course, you don’t seem to be receptive to argument. Continuing this back-and-forth won’t achieve anything, so why don’t we listen to the minute shred of wisdom in Damon’s skull, save the discussion for a better time, and enjoy the festival, regardless of who made it?”

"Yeah." Katya agrees after a second of reflection. "Maybe I'll do better than Jhere after all." She studies the fire, melancholy over her memories.

Ladonna Hazel accepts the silver piece of payment and brings Ladonna her meal, before wordlessly moving on to the next customer in line.
Katya "And that brings me back to what I was going to say before," Mereida says, picking up the small box again from the table, and handing it over to Katya. "My gift to you this Solstice."
Lillian Damon scowls at the bard's insult. "You don't even have a family to celebrate with, elf. You're just an outsider, and you always will be." He storms off.
Insulting the son of the town's hero, not to mention claiming humans could not have invented the holiday, also earns Lillian several dark looks and concerned murmurs from the crowd around her. She clearly has not made any friends by siding with the town pariah over the town itself.
"What was all that about?" asks Finbul. "Nobody has ever sided with me before, including yourself."

“Yet, I should have been,” Lillian states resolutely. “You’re my friend, and friends support each other, and I often agree with what you say, to boot. I never truly stood up because I thought I might be fully accepted by these people. But I never tried. Perhaps it’s because, deep down, I knew I’d always be an outcast; not just here, but wherever I go. It’s just a part of my nature. Besides, bringing light to the discrimination in Tardiff...that matters more to me than reputation.”

Ladonna looks over her shoulder towards Finbul, Damon, and Lillian as they are drawing a lot of attention. ~She is being very outspoken today,~ she thinks to herself. Right now, she is just content to watch.

Katya considers with no small amount of curiosity what her mother could have given her that relates to marrying well. Thankfully her curiosity doesn't have to sit for very long. She opens her mother's present.

Ladonna As Ladonna watches the drama unfold before her, she also looks for a place to sit. Most of the tables are occupied by families, and she could join one of them. The only person sitting alone is the reeve, who of course, has no family.
Katya As Katya works to open the box, Mereida says, "My gift to you was originally meant to bring you the future you wanted. And I suppose it still is; you might say it is the gift of freedom to choose your own future now." The box contains a golden ring in it with some kind of runes engraved along it. "This has been in my family for generations. My mother gave it to me for my future wedding. It never came to pass, so it's been hidden in storage this whole time. But now I gift it to you. Use it to choose your own partner, to charter your own fate."
Lillian Finbul takes a few seconds to digest all of that, then finally nods in approval. "Well...better late than never, I guess. Thanks. Nobody has ever had the guts to agree with me in public before, only privately after it was all said and done."

Ladonna decides to join the reeve as she is curious on if she is going to be uncomfortable around her considering that she was the one that had an affair with her father. "Things are getting a little loud over there," she says, nodding her head in Damon and Finbul's direction.

Ladonna Derica nods. "Just like every year. Don't worry. My men are keeping an eye on things if they should get too heated."

"Hmm," Ladonna says before taking a few bites of her food. "So I was curious about something. If I could get my father cleaned up, would he still have a place in the watch?" she asks curiously.

“Exactly why I felt the need to,” Lillian explains further. “Change can’t be instigated without people standing up and calling attention to what needs adjustment.”

"Oh wow" Katya says, admiring the ring. "I didn't even realize you had this."
She inspects the runes closer. "What does the writing mean?"

Ladonna Derica frowns. "Your father wasn't let go from the watch because he was drinking. The drinking came after. The reason I had to let him go is that it would have been...inappropriate. I am the reeve, which means the watch reports to me. Even though your father and I have not...seen each other in a long time, people would still talk. It would make it difficult for me to do my job."
Katya "Oh, uh...those are...old Eonian runes," Mereida says. "They grant protection to the wearer, or so I heard. Err, I mean, that's what my mother told me, anyway. I've never put it to use myself."
Lillian "That's true...although the people here are just as likely to dismiss you as they are me," Finbul says. "What we really need is a human ally. But no human is going to risk their standing by sticking up for our peoples. They have nothing to gain and everything to lose."
