eOGW2s|w1d20 vs int 13
In a fit of uncharacteristic pessimism, likely brought on by her recent disillusionment with other people as a whole, it occurs to Katya to check the ring for a tiny red gemstone.1d20

“Well, let’s not generalize,” Lillian says, somewhat playfully. In a more serious tone, she adds, “That’s a part of why I believe leaving Buho would be beneficial. We can find humans who share our point of view, spread change in other towns, and hopefully effect Buho by proxy.”

"You are more concerned with people talking than giving a lifeline back to someone that desperately needs it?" Ladonna asks. "I agree that it would be awkward, but I'm pretty sure my father has learned his lesson. He has been paying for it for a long time now. I've been paying for it. The only way that I'm going to get anywhere is by getting out of Buho, but I can't leave my father in this state over something that happened twenty something odd years ago."

Ladonna "It's not about being awkward, although I'm certain it would be," Derica says. "Look, nobody is going to believe I'd be giving him his job back for any reason than I still have feelings for him. Any decision I make regarding him would be viewed in that light. Every raise and promotion he earned, no matter how hard he worked to earn them, would be assumed to have been given to him." She shakes her head. "The best I could do is offer a letter of recommendation to be a guardsman somewhere else. But it's a moot point, as he's something of a mess right now, no offense."
Katya Examining the ring, Katya finds no evidence of a red stone or any kind of gem at all.
Lillian "I don't know about that," Finbul says skeptically. "How much change can we spread if we're constantly on the move? The kind of change I'm working toward will take years of work. It's not the sort of thing we can do in a few days and then move on to the next town."

"It's beautiful" Katya says.
"I realize it's supposed to be a wedding ring, but I hate the idea of putting it away for however long that takes. Would it be alright if I wore it in the mean time?"

“It certainly wouldn’t be quick,” Lillian elaborates. “It certainly would take quite a bit of time and effort-but then again, it doesn’t seem like Buho is getting much progress in that regard.”

"Yes, I do realize he is a mess," Ladonna says. "But I have to give him a reason not to be a mess, and that requires giving the man some hope," she explains.

Ladonna"Well, perhaps he can find work elsewhere," Derica suggests. "He doesn't have to be a guard. Maybe he can learn to be a butcher or a baker instead." KatyaMereida nods. "Of course. That's better than letting it gather dust, as I did."
Lillian"No, I suppose it's not," Finbul admits. "Then again, we did get them to make peace with the goblins. Or one tribe of them, anyway. That's something that would have been unthinkable not too long ago."

"A new trade he would have to learn, at his age," Ladonna points out with a shake of her head.

Ladonna"I'm sorry, my hands are tied on the matter," Derica says, shaking her head. "I wish I could do more. Even if I was willing to abuse my position of power to give him his job back, the council would oppose it. They were the ones who voted to terminate him in the first place, after all." KatyaThe ring fits her perfectly, surprisingly enough, almost as if it had been custom made just for her.
(OOC: This ring functions as a Ring of Protection +1.)

"Ah, right, the council," Ladonna says with a shake of her head. "What about my father did you like?" she asks.

“True, true,” Lillian admits. “But I don’t think your reputation does us any favors with most of the townsfolk.”

Ladonna Derica blushes. "That's not...look, I was young and stupid and lonely," she says. "It was a mistake, and it's best to just leave it in the past and move forward."
Katya "I'm glad. And I look forward to you one day bringing home the person you choose to spend your life with for me to meet," Mereida says. "And we will throw the biggest wedding this town has ever seen, when that day comes."
Lillian "Maybe so," Finbul admits. "But nobody ever got equal rights by asking their oppressors nicely and politely."
