Ladonna "No, I don't," Derica admits. "Your mother and I didn't exactly talk much. You'd have to ask her, I suppose."
Katya "That's a tradition we will change," Mereida assures her. "One of the benefits of having gold and prestige, not to mention a title, is I can pull quite a few strings when I need to. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. You haven't even chosen a betrothed yet. Have your eye on anyone in particular?"

"Mother" Katya chastises her, a blush on her cheeks. "We've only just agreed I won't be marrying Jherek. It would be incredibly inappropriate to already have a replacement in mind."
She looks at her mother askance. "Are you OK? You aren't acting like yourself."

“I agree, but I don’t think our histories of never talking to anybody and promoting ‘racial fanaticism’ do much to sway Buho to our side. A new town would mean a new start, reputation-wise. But, if you think it wisest to remain here for a while, I’ll happily help.”

"It is kind of hard to ask her when I don't actually know where she is," Ladonna admits with a sigh. "I guess it really doesn't matter in the long run. She probably wanted to start a new life without any type of connection to Buho. She would have a better chance at that without a kid."

Ladonna "I'm sorry," Derica says. "But it was ten years ago. I had thought you had accepted this by now. Why the sudden interest in it all?"
Katya Mereida smiles and shakes her head. "I'm only teasing you, of course. I guess the holiday season is just putting me in a good mood, that's all."
Lillian Finbul shrugs. "Honestly, I'm not opposed to leaving. Just as long as there is a plan. Where would we go? How would we pay for it all? Would we hire further protection? The roads aren't safe these days any more, after all."

"I should tell him that the engagement is off now. You had some more gifts to give out, right? I'll take care of this if you want to take care of that."
Mereida's soul is mostly clean, although there is some sloth and pride around the edges.

She collects her gifts and heads off to find either Finbul or Ser Walls, whoever she sees first.

All I can say is that sometimes they make decisions that affect our lives, even ruin them. And you can rage and howl at the unfairness of it all, but the past cannot be changed. We just have to learn to live with it, and make the best of it. That's the only advice I can really give you."
