Is Kori supposed to be a battle mage?
Well, you could always try and have Chatty raised.

That was pretty brutal, but yeah... 12 dmg on a downed target... not much you can do in that situation

I made her very...gimmicky, giving her all the spells which I thought would be useful in day to day life--you know, outside of combat. But since I joined the game, it's just been combat, combat, combat. Bad luck, I say. XD OK, thanks for the reminder. I tend to forget you can do that in D&D.

Yeah, the party made the choice to take a two week trek through dangerous terrain instead of using a boat, so there will likely be a lot of combat in this chapter.

Man, that's really disappointing. I don't like 2E's combat very much at all--mostly because I'm not familiar with it like I am 5E's--and I'm not going to have much fun in it. Especially when my character can't do much.

Lalora wanted to take the boat, which was slower but safer, as they'd have to sail around the entire island. Sorrith wanted to cut through the mountains and the wastelands on foot, because he hoped to capture a griffon to tame. So it was put to a vote. Ravarie wanted to help Sorrith, Regar doesn't like boats, and Grubnick didn't care either way. Kori was the only one who voted to take the boat.
EDIT: Ah, ninja'd. Anyway, I figured between Lillian, Johannas, Kallian, Grognak, and Kori you'd have some handle on 2E battle mechanics by now. That's more 2E characters than I've played 5E characters so far.
Nevertheless, if you want some advice, I can offer some. It might be worthwhile to make Kori at least somewhat battle ready the next time she's able to. Buy some daggers or darts to use when you have no spells available. Maybe learn a few combat spells; even if you don't want to be a blaster, you can focus on buffs and debuffs, crowd control, and other support spells.
Mage is by far the most difficult class to play in 2E. It's all about preparation, strategizing, and resource management. This is the sort of thing one learns in the early levels, but you sort of jumped ahead with Kori, so I can see how that left you unprepared.

I think it's mostly because I've only done 2E combat online. There's much more space between combats in a PBP, and you also tend to...disconnect each action from the other ones--and even the results. And that's all right with a system that you're familiar with from playing it in-person, but to learn a system via PbP is pretty difficult, especially for someone with developmental difficulties like me. Plus, I've DMed in a few 5E games, which means I'm very familiar with the combat rules by necessity.
Thank you for the advice, too! I'll be sure to pick some spells and darts up when Kori gets some downtime.

Yeah, I hear you. I had to try and learn 5E from pbp and it wasn't going very well, which is why I started having solo games with Horizon in person (Wyld Times) to help mitigate that. Watching Critical Role and similar games helped, too, but as far as I know, there are no 2E versions of those sorts of things.
Still, you don't have to second-guess. You can always ask how things work if you aren't sure. Unlike 5E, 2E is a lot looser in interpretation, usually leaving most calls to the DM.
You may not have to wait that long for the darts. Ravarie has a set of 20 and I don't think she's ever thrown a single one so far in the entire game yet. So you could probably get Kori to convince her to loan her a few after the battle. They have a rate of fire of 3/1, so they are pretty useful, even if the damage itself is paltry.

There are several groups that stream 2e live games, but there are lots of houserules and most of the ones i know of aren't very combat heavy. There is a group called Regal Goblins that does several of them, they even have a discord with announcements for when each game is. Discord link: discord.gg/Ga2vqwuRF6

Just noticed something. Has the Prayer spell not been reducing the enemy Hit and Damage rolls this round?

OK, so the ROF is how many attacks I can make in a round--so I can throw two daggers per round, and three darts. Do I actually have any daggers on me? They're listed in my damage, but not in my equipment.

They confiscated her weapons (4 daggers) and she was unable to reclaim them before the pirates withdrew from the fight. She never bought any more after that.

Ok, that just seems odd because they show up in round 7 prior to Grubnick completing the spell and in round 8 both trolls 4 and 5 have the prayer penalty applied to their attacks, but not in rounds 9 or 10...

Okay, looking back it seems I was mistaken. I guess this heat wave has cooked my brain more than I thought. Maybe I was confusing it with the Bless spell earlier. Then yeah, the prayer's effects should be still affecting Trolls 04 and 05 after all. My bad.

No worries, just hoping against hope there is a chance to save Ratt Heat wave? What has it been like up there lately?
