What...what race did you think she was then? I'm having flashbacks now to your surprise to learn Finbul was a druid the whole time.

Surprised to learn that Krah is a Barbarian oh wait thats a game I'm in What race did you say Krah was? I was trying to see if that is a playable race and I might actually make it so in my world.

They're called Frostfolk, and are apparently a very obscure FR race. I had never even heard of them prior to running that module. They were first introduced in 1E, but later fleshed out in 3E.

Yeah, looks like. I think they were called Frost Men in 1E, and then later changed to Frost Folk in 3E.

Well at least between the two wiki's that gives me a place to start. I'm thinking maybe it's a Human Variant.

Halflings recorded great next is Gnomes, followed by Half-Elves. After that I think we intend to talk Humans though not entirely sure why other than consistency and to have covered all the "basic" races. We essentially did the same for Classes too.

Well, I've had a crazy busy week, but I finally got around to listening to the first half yesterday. And wow, I got name-dropped! By the way, the 'a' in Daos is long, so it's more like Day-ose than Dah-ose. Don't feel bad, pretty much everyone mispronounces it. Allow classes not allowed? - Well, as you said yourself, I open all races to all classes in my games. To date, I haven't had any balance problems as a result, and it makes my players happier to have less restrictions, so it seems to work out pretty well. To be honest, some of the 2E restrictions are a little odd. Like how elves, a race associate with nature, can't be druids by core rules. Edition Comparisons? - My experiences in editions other than 2E are pretty limited so far. I know some about 1E, but I've never actually played or run it. From what I can see, it's just a more restrictive, less detailed version of 2E. And Basic (also never run, but I did play in it once) is even more restrictive and less detailed than 1E. I've never run a 3E game (I find it waaaay too crunchy for my tastes), but I have played in a couple of 'em briefly (either 3E or Pathfinder 1E), and played a few video games that use the rule sets (Neverwinter Nights, Temple of Elemental Evil, DDO and Pathfinder Kingmaker). I know almost nothing about 4E. And I've only started to learn 5E, running Lost Mines of Phandelver and playing in a Dragonlance game over on the Playground. But I like 5E so far. It's not too complicated like 3E, and not a Byzantine mess like 1E and 2E. Of course, I've only dabbled in the core rules so far. I've heard there's some power creep problems later on, if you start including everything. Resume games after a break - This isn't really an issue nowadays for me, as my games are all forum-based and don't have breaks. But even back in the day, when I ran chat-based or even face-to-face games, I pretty much just picked up where we left off. Half-Orcs - So fun fact: I have never played a half-orc. Like, ever. I don't have anything against them personally. I've had some NPC half-orcs in my games (Bula and Zesk in Gontoria, and Zedd in Doom of Daggerdale, for instance). Just, for whatever reason, they've never really appealed to me. What's more, in the history of all the D&D games I've run (which dates back to '95), I've only ever once had a player play one. That was Nuke, in my old Octhania game, who played Val Urgan, a half-orc fighter (and orca rider). Oddly, I've had two people play hobgoblins, but only one half-orc. Go figure. In my favorite published setting, Dragonlance, half-orcs (and orcs in general) don't exist at all. Gnolls/Flinds - Never played one before, or had a player want to play one. They are playable, though, in all my games. I have a special breed of them in my Octhania setting, called Primals. They are lycanthropic moon worshipers. They intentionally expose themselves to a strain of lycanthropy that makes them hulk out, essentially, under the full moon. Very dangerous. Gnoll pirates are pretty common, too. They're known for taking prisoners to eat them later. Half-Orc spellcasters - I have a half-orc Abjurer NPC in my Gontoria game. I had a half-orc cleric of Tymora NPC in Doom of Daggerdale, too. So I'm all for it. Never tried out the shaman and witch doctor kits before, although I have read about them. I usually just give enemy orcs levels in cleric or mage or druid, depending on the situation, if I want them to be spellcasters. Anyway, I'm hoping to finish up the second half of the podcast today.

Nice. I'll try to remember it's Dayose. Not Dahose as it's sorta spelled. Then again names never really follow the "rules" of the language. Thank you for the feedback once again. I did intend to mention or "shout out" to you and say thanks for the feedback/replies to our questions and so forth. Honestly It'd be cool to have you on as a guest DM sometime. We've done it with a couple listeners last year. I like the idea of gnoll pirates too btw. I think I will use that sometime. I will say I hadn't played a Half-Orc much back in the 90's when I started playing. I don't think I even made a half-orc until early 2000's trust me my half-orc pc's have been far and few between over the years, I think I total about 3 of them over all, not counting the one i have as an NPC in a Thyatis game on UnseenServant. Honestly with the almost same years in 2e D&D experience you and I both have I am not too shocked that you have never played a half-orc pc. Heck there are some things I have also never played as such as halflings, bards, paladins to name a few.

To be fair, half-orcs weren't really a playable race in 2e until the Complete Book of Humanoids came out, so it's not so odd if not many people had one as a PC. They were a core race in 1e, though. They got a rather nifty +1 to Str and Con back then, with a -2 Cha penalty.

So basically we "winged it".
