Physical Description: The elf before you is both taller and hardier than most of his folk. Dressed in a mix of mottled grays and browns, his shoulder-length chestnut hair almost blends into his clothing; and is loosely tied behind his neck with a thin leather strip. Piercing, cold green eyes hold yours like the steady, dispassionate gaze of a wolf.
A longbow crosses his back over his leather armor. A bristling quiver and short-sword adorn his waist at opposite sides, and the hilt of a longsword peeks over his shoulder opposite the bow. He moves with typical Elven grace, and the weapons seem as natural on him as limbs on a tree.

Tristen’s expressions and demeanor are typically stoic and calm. He might strike some as cold and unfriendly, or even aloof. However, his underdeveloped social skills are more from spending a critical stage of his life alone in the woods than from any animosity or rudeness. He seldom speaks, and typically only when he has something relevant to say. Small talk is somewhat alien to him, and any responses or questions are likely to be brief or even non-verbal. He may take short trips into the forest alone from time to time, whether to hunt, scout the surrounding area, or just to be alone for a bit.
Tristen watches others closely with the unwavering gaze of a wolf; which can be quite unnerving to some. He prefers to observe quietly rather than trust the word of others; talk is cheap but consistent actions prove what is in the heart. Though his expressions and mannerisms are subtle, he does care about others. He is not quick to make friends, but once he does they are friends for life.
He is cautious in planning, but will not hesitate to jump into the thick of battle if necessary in order to defend those he has grown close to or sworn to protect. He approaches a task seeking the most efficient way to safely complete it. When safety does not seem to be a concern, he is fairly un-opinionated about methods used; so long as they are not evil.

Background:
When Tristen was barely starting his journey into manhood at the age of 85, he was part of a small elven group traveling from his birthplace to a far-off elven city which was in his mother’s homeland. Messengers were being sent to relay general information between the two communities, and his family tagged along. They had decided that the new city would be a better place to raise the children, and they had family there already. Tristen’s younger sister had just reached an age where his parents felt she would be able to handle the journey (at the tender age of 60).
Guiding the group was his Father, a renowned tracker, who had begun teaching the eager young Tristen the ways to find the quickest and safest path through the woods. The group consisted only of Tristen, his parents, his sister, and two messengers who were both accomplished trackers (though not so skilled as Tristen’s father). The trip was planned to take almost two months since the distance was far and the elves were moving with all of their possessions. The messengers did not mind, since the news they carried was not urgent; and they sought to learn more of tracking and trailblazing from the elder elf.
Along the way the group came across a small encampment of three elves, one night. The group accepted the invitation to join their camp, and discovered they were heading in the same direction. Late that night the three elves attacked, revealing their true nature as Vampires! All of the elves were killed except for Tristan and his sister, who hid in the woods not far away. The vampires, sated in their hunger, left to return to their lair before sunrise; considering the two younglings not worth the effort and unlikely to survive the woods alone to carry tales.
In the morning the children returned to the campsite to find the horror, and even the pack animals had been slain. Nothing was left for them to do but continue on to the new city. Leaving most of their family’s possessions behind, they took only what they could carry: Their father’s bow and some arrows, a longsword, some rations and water.
The children wandered the woods, being far less adept at tracking than their father. Tristan was not always sure of the way, but followed the general direction his father had laid out at the start of the journey. Unfortunately, the remainder of the trip took most of the rest of the year for the two wayward younglings, and they only arrived at the new city at the onset of winter. They had sustained themselves for eight months by their father’s advice, Tristen’s meager hunting ability, and his sister’s knowledge of wild plants (which she was learning from her mother).
Once back into civilization, their uncle (their mother’s brother) took them in; devastated to hear the tale but relieved that the children had made it. However safe they were now, the children were haunted by the events in the woods. They spoke mainly only to each other and were awkward around all but their closest surviving family. Tristen continued to study hunting, tracking and pathfinding; favoring his father’s bow over all other missile weapons, and training in the long and shortsword.
While his sister eventually grew out of her social issues, Tristen retained a deeper understanding of what had happened; which resulted in a social distance from the community. Tristen grew further from the community the more time he spent in the woods. He dedicated himself to learning all he could about sentient undead, and how to defeat them (favored enemy). Later he began to study canine animal training with a local hunter who used wolves to track prey. Eventually Tristen left his new community in order to guide others along the way, hoping to protect them from the hazards that lurk in the woods.
His father’s bow and longsword are prized possessions, and he will rarely let them out of his sight. If a superior weapon presents itself he will use it, but will never permanently part with them willingly.
