"D--," Liala begins.
"Are you absolutely sure of that?" Norris asks her. "Because I could have sworn I detected the faintest hint of musk when you first stepped into the room. Maybe you didn't get rid of it entirely, but instead just got used to it."
"DO YOU WANNA HAVE BABIES?!" Liala bursts, then immediately covers her own mouth in humiliation, looking like she wants to shrink down into nothing and then disappear forever. The outburst causes the old man to suddenly jump awake, the book in his lap sliding off and hitting the ground with a thud. He mutters something to himself about youths as he bends down to pick it up.
Norris only stares at her blankly, before answering, "No, not particularly. Thanks."
Unable to look either of them in the eye, Liala spins on her heel and runs out the room.
"Odd," Norris notes. "You keep odd company," he adds, looking back to Ladonna.

Ladonna's mouth drops open at Liala's baby outburst. At first she is just completely shocked, and then she has to pursue her lips together tightly so that she doesn't outright laugh. She manages to compose herself just as her friend marches off. "She's not odd. She just wanted to get your attention. I suppose that was one way to do it," she admits, clearly amused by the whole situation. "Uh, excuse me."
Ladonna hurries out of the library after Liala. "Liala! Wait!"

Ladonna finds that Liala has stepped out onto one of the balconies overlooking the temple. As it is neither Rockday or a holy day, the area below is fairly empty, although there are a few people down there. Liala is sitting on the ground, her back against the rail, her face buried in her hands. "I don't know what's wrong with me. I blew it. I always blow it. Just like with Marcus. And Lenk. And Stephen. And Paul. And..."

"You were nervous," Ladonna says as she joins her friend on the balcony. "And he wasn't exactly making it easy to talk to him," she points out. She takes the time to sit next to Liala. "Don't beat yourself up over this."

Liala sighs heavily and shakes her head sadly. "Oh, Ladonna, I'm sorry I embarrassed you in front of your colleague. I know things must be hard enough for you as it is without me making things worse."

"You didn't embarrass me," Ladonna says with a shake of her head. "Would you like some help starting up a conversation with someone?" she asks curiously.

Liala's head perks up. "Oh, did you know someone else then?"

"Uh, not yet," Ladonna says. "I'm going to have to show my face around here more often to meet people. I just...been kind of avoiding it lately."

"In that case, I think I'll just return to my room for now, and maybe scream into my pillow for awhile," Liala says, getting to her feet.

Ladonna stands up along with Liala, and gives her a little pat on the shoulder. "When I find someone that isn't quite as difficult as Norris, I'll let you know," she says. "I think I'm going to speak to his father though. Maybe he can help me find a job." Once Liala leaves, she makes her way to do just that, speak with Norris' father.

The man Ladonna is searching for, the father of Norris, is found in his office. He is currently alone, busy going over some scrolls. He seems to be documenting in a book what the scrolls say, then refurls the scrolls and sets them to a pile on the left of his desk.

"Excuse me, Master Sern," Ladonna says. "May I have a moment of your time?"

"What is it you need, Ser Marche?" Sern asks. "You say you wish to find a job? I'm afraid I cannot be of any help to you in that regard," he admits. "Your reputation right now is...fairly toxic. Anyone who would hire you for any job will be seen as sticking their thumb in the count's eye, and nobody wants to be seen as such. If you need assistance with your studies, I am happy to aid you anyway I can, but...beyond that, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do for you."

"There has to be something I can do," Ladonna says with a sigh. "Otherwise, I'm going to have to send some people home, maybe in including myself."

Quill nods sympathetically. "Yes, it's a rather sticky wicket, isn't it? Politics is a difficult game to play, and not everyone is cut out for it. You would hardly be the first courtier to have to return home after an embarrassing faux-pas or crossing the wrong person."
