"So, nobody hired you to come out here?" Daos asks the ranger. "You're not a citizen of Hommlet itself?"

[Unless the DM says otherwise ]
Tristen shakes his head. No, I have not been hired. I heard people were in need so I came. He gives an almost indiscernible shake to his head. The wild is where I am comfortable. If there are brigands and dangerous unnatural creatures, that is where they may hide for a time, but my home is in nature. The first real example of emotion enters his voice in the last word... almost as if he considered the concept sacred. So I have begun to search for those that despoil it, or make it unsafe for others.
He shakes his head regarding Hommlet as well. I have not been to this area before. I only came because there was a need.

OOC: Tristan knows of essentially what is in the intro post he merely travelled alone to Hommlet and asked around the outskirts of town and was given some leads about the moathouse so he set out on his own to check it out making his own path, or perhaps he scouted around before heading to the moathouse. But no Tristen was not hired by any means here merely heard stories from townsfolk.
Narya detects no magic on any of the dead woodsman's things.

"We're here to investigate the bandits, too," Daos admits. "Supposedly, they're using the moat house for a base."

"And if they're home, I'd be very surprised if they don't know we're here by now," Roshek mutters. "We'd best press on, eh?"

Tristen nods, bow ready and facing roughly towards the moathouse as the others prepare to proceed.

"Well, after someone screamed when the frogs popped up, there's no sense in trying to be quiet now." Kevril takes off toward the moathouse door, intending to bang on it with his sword hilt.

"I didn't scream, you young whippersnapper," Roshek mutters angrily as Kevril shoves his way past. "And you weren't exactly quiet yourself. You think the frogs cared about you shouting your war cry at the top o' your lungs?"

"Uhh...everyone...let's not argue...we should save that for the bandits. Or any other oversized wildlife out here," Daos says, nervously looking around in case there are more giant frogs lying in wait.

As at least some of the others begin to approach The moathouse, Tristen keeps a sharp eye on any visible windows or portals in the structure that might provide early warning from things inside.

Rotten Drawbridge
From the looks of things as the group draws closer to the gates/doors part of the drawbridge was battered through, though it looks like you can cross on the planks to gain access to the inner gates. The chains of the drawbridge are broken, and it fell; from the looks of it, it has remained thus since. It is strong enough to bear a man, but does not look like you would want any mounts to attempt crossing they might break through the planks and get injured. From the plants of the drawbridge you can see the front gates. The door is hanging open on one great hinge, the other is splintered and holed but still in position.
Though now you face a new dilemma what do you do with your mounts? Do you attempt to have them cross the rotted drawbridge planks or do you find a spot tie them off and cross the planks yourself.
Actions?

If anyone mentions needing to tie their mounts, Tristen will respond I know a place. and be willing to lead them nearby to where his mule is
=== "Walnut" would have been tethered in a safe spot in the woods very nearby before Tristen emerged to help with the frogs

Daos has no mount or pack animals of any kind, so he's good for the moment. He'll wait for the others to deal with their own, though. He does not want to be the first one to step foot across the drawbridge by any means.

Kevril, having left his horse in town to walk with Daos, takes a step onto the rickety drawbridge.
