Are they as awful as they sound? On the whole, no. But they are poor, and they require someone extraordinary to escape. Someone willing to face the price of both failure and success.

My concern is that your character would need to be well over 200 years old. Possibly she found a cache that contained the scrolls of The Prophecy? (Not the Prophecies of Aeron) Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant I was apprenticed to a wizard who *was* studying the Prophecies of Aeron in more recent years. He gave her his research notes, not the Prophecies themselves, and instructed her to carry them to some contact in the Kindgom of Auredain.

Okay, so I'm thinking...the half-orc was raised in the ghetto, and when old enough, ran away to live in the wild. Was taken in by some kind of mentor figure, another outcast or hermit, and was taught druidism. They prefer the company of animals to people, because of the way people treated them in the past.
But then we need to get them to re-enter society, of course, because they can't join the party if they're out in the wilderness. The Hermit background has the Discovery feature: "The quiet seclusion of your extended hermitage gave you access to a unique and powerful discovery. The exact nature of this revelation depends on the nature of your seclusion. It might be a great truth about the cosmos, the deities, the powerful beings of the outer planes, or the forces of nature. It could be a site that no one else has ever seen. You might have uncovered a fact that has long been forgotten, or unearthed some relic of the past that could rewrite history. It might be information that would be damaging to the people who or consigned you to exile, and hence the reason for your return to society."
I'm thinking the discovery could have something to do with the prophecy, and would somehow necessitate the half-orc returning to society for some reason. Any thoughts?

Well, we have a druid and a rogue so far. Maybe something that can stand on the front line?

Make your choice based on what you WANT to play. It’s easy to handle the tank roll with summons or the occasional NPCs. On top of that, almost every class can make a suitable tank in 5e.
also, i’d Like at least one more player. We can manage with 3. But more is better.

If you do go with barbarian, you could go with a Bruce Banner thing. Like, they're a nervous, meek type of person who has been possessed by a rage spirit. When they 'rage,' the spirit takes over, and they become a completely different person.

I like the idea of a nervous Paladin, second guessing his faith, his devotion, and that self doubt making him morally superior and worthy of his patron's blessing.

OK, I'm much more functional today. Still a little blurry, but far less pain. So I'll try to deal with some questions if you have any, and give you a bit more lore.
The kingdom of Auredain is made of of three significant cities, scattered towns and settlements, and the occasional farm or trading post.
Those cities are Herldsport, the capitol and largest of the three. It is very diverse, with representatives of all the goodly races who survived the Djujarnan onslaught and the Sundering. It has significant Elven and Dwarven enclaves where the two races try to live as their ancestors always did before the sundering, but their are many Elves and Dwarves who live in the city proper, unwilling to make the same mistakes they made in the lead up to the war. The city and the kingdom are overseen by a human, King Lauras the Wise, Fifth of that Name. His line has held the throne since the kingdom was formed in the aftermath of The Sundering.
Next is Bladepoint. A coastal city, built where the Aure River empties into the Turbid Sea. It is ruled by The Guild, a consortium of the heads of the seven most powerful merchants families in Bladepoint. The culture could only be called grasping, and deceit is the name of the game. The primary redeeming feature of Bladepoint is that it is the home of The Knights of the Shattered Shield, an order of paladins and cavaliers dedicated to reminding the peoples of Auredain of the danger of isolation and the necessity of working together so they will be united when Djujarnan returns. They have a small keep just outside the city.
The final city is Redpoint. They have the dubious honor of being the easternmost city in the kingdom, and so are considered the first line of defense in case Djujarnan finds access to the western kingdom. They have a large force of soldiers quartered in the walls of the city, and Overwatch Tower, the home of Auredain's greatest mages and their apprentices, stands at the very edge of the Escarpment keeping watch across the Divide for goblin and orc activity. General Reggus Stonecrush and Lord-Lieutenant Valeras Oakmantle lead the forces and rule the city there.

I have a build so far.
STR 16 (+3), DEX 10 (+0), CON 14 (+2), INT 10 (+0), WIS 15 (+2), CHA 10 (+0)
What about religion? There's only the one god, right? Do druids follow him, as well, or do they just worship the abstract concept of 'nature?'

There is more than one god. But the actions of Aeron in the Sundering have made the worship of others fade to almost nothing. Pretty much everyone worships Aeron. Druids included.
If you want something else, we can talk about it.
