The Golden Halfpenny isn't hard to find; it's quite close to the town square, and it has a large, rather impressive sign with its name on it. As you walk inside, the first thing that strikes you is how merry the atmosphere is. It's full of people drinking, laughing, and singing songs. An old piano plays itself in the corner as a pairs of dwarves dance along the music. A elf with a long ponytail sits at the bar, clad in simple red robes. She pensively sips her cocktail, bemusedly looking out at the carousing in the tavern. Behind the counter is a bright-eyed woman with short golden hair. At first, she appears to be a human with remarkably short arms, but as you approach you see that she's a Halfling on a stepstool.
"Hi! I'm Melina Tort, owner of the Halfpenny!" she says cheerfully. "How can I help you?"

"Hello," Daos says to the halfling woman. "Uh, I guess we'd like to order some food and drink," he answers, gesturing to himself, the brothers, and the minotaur.
=============
(OOC: Is there any significance to red robes in this setting that Daos would be aware of?)

"Sure!" Melina says. "What would you like?"

[OOC: The red robes don't represent a particular group, but they're too high quality for a commoner and not elaborate enough for a mage. She's probably a merchant.]

Flynn contemplates his first song as he orders a beverage. "A porter if you please, or an ale if you don't carry the porter."

"Oh, uh, any specials today?" Daos asks, not sure of the menu.

"Oh, uh, any specials today?" Daos asks, not sure of the menu. "We have a very nice mushroom sauté!" Melina suggests.

"Oh, uh, not a big fan of mushrooms," Daos remarks. "Maybe just some chicken or something? Oh, and a cup of tea, please."

Melina calls out the orders to the the kitchen and begins to pour Flynn and Qurrak's drinks. "You know, I've never met a minotaur before!" she says, smiling wide. "Or anyone from the Beastlands, for that matter. Have you ever seen a real life dinosaur?"
The Elf turns to Daos, a muted expression on her face. "Are you going to be in town long?" she asks.

The minotaur is embaressed , not sure how to treat this tiny house matron. 'I... mostly went around the nearby wilderness to the coast.. so.. mmm... no. No dinosaurs... Sorry'

"Aw, that's a shame!" she says, handing them their drinks. "I've never seen one, not even in an illusion. But they sound incredible!"

The Elf turns to Daos, a muted expression on her face. "Are you going to be in town long?" she asks. Daos blinks a bit in confusion, then casts a glance over his shoulder to see if the elven merchant was speaking to someone just behind him. Not finding anyone there, he turns back to her awkwardly. "Oh! Uh...no, I don't think so. We were just in town to deliver a missive, and are now delivering a second one to Foccupolis, so...I imagine we'll be off in the morning," he says.

"In that case," she says. "Are you interested in a job? Our merchant caravan is seeking guards for our trip to Foccupolis-we've no business left in town, so we can leave whenever you're ready. The pay is 5 gold per person per day. A pittance to you, I suppose, but it's more than a skilled laborer earns."
