Lillian sits down and begins playing a song on her lute. The calming influence of the music helps in counteracting their fear. They calm down, although not entirely. There is still a bit of nickering and snorting. The horses are still agitated, but at least are not trying to break out anymore.
Sidhanar sighs in relief. "Thank you. It is lucky you happened by when you did. I can't lose this job, too."
============
Lillian attempts to influence the reactions of the horses. The horses save vs. PPDM (1d20-2): 12-2 = 10, fail. The horses' reaction improves from threatening to cautious. NWSE7jJe1d20-2 1d20-2

Ladonna looks to Relken for a moment to see his reaction before she turns back to the count. She quickly does all the formal stiff she must do before she speaks. "We have heard rumors, my lord," Ladonna says. "So we are here to see what exactly is going on."

Lillian sighs in relief. Especially because she knows that option is available in the future, in case she...agitates more animals.
"I'm glad to be of help," Lillian says. "It's the least I can do, considering I was...somewhat responsible for getting you fired."

Ladonna "Rumors..," Solan sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I need to speak with the servants about their gossip. I apologize for that. I had hoped to find a way to break this to you both better, but it seems what is done, is done. Yes, the wedding is canceled. Relken is to be married to another. I'm sorry, but the order comes down from the Church itself. My hands are tied on the matter."
After a few seconds trying to digest this news, Relken says, "My lord, if I may? Is this not...highly unorthodox?"
The count nods. "It is. I've never known the Church to intervene in such a low ranking marriage before, and especially not so directly. But it is not my place to question them."
Lillian Sidhanar nods, but does not comment on the firing. "Might I ask what brings you here today? Did Ser Marche send you to check on her pony?"

"I merely wished to see you. We haven't spoken in a while," Lillian answers. "I also wanted to ask you what it was like living in Ruara. I was born there, you know, though I haven't spent much time in it."

"I see," Sidhanar says. "It is not...easy to speak about. I miss it greatly. But I have not seen it in over ten years. I am not sure what to say. It's beautiful. So much so it still haunts my dreams to this day."

"What are the people like, there?" Lillian asks gently.

"They are good people," Sidhanar says wistfully. "Not terribly unlike the folk here, I suppose. They have families, hopes, dreams and struggles. But in many ways, it's quite different, too. No humans, for instance. Or any other races, really. No human lords, or human temples or human laws."

"And instead, Elven lords, Elven temples, and Elven laws," Lillian says. "What about creative traditions? Stories, music, art?" As a Bard, that carries a special significance to her.

"Oh, yes. Art is an important part of Ruaran life," Sidhanar answers. "Every citizen at least dabbles in some kind of art, whether it be music, dance, poetry, or in my case, painting. And music is integral. We have music at birthing ceremonies and for funeral rites. So from the cradle to the grave, music plays a central role in our lives."

"The church?" Ladonna asks curiously. "I don't understand why they would be against it." She says. She is clearly confused, and she had come to terms with the fact that she was going to marry Relken. "So he is marrying someone else, but I am not?"

Lillian smiles at the connection she's found with her homeland. "Maybe you could teach me some Ruaran songs, sometime. I'm always looking to expand my musical knowledge."

Ladonna "I could not say," Gladwell answers. "You are not one of my knights, so I have no authority to tell you who you can or cannot marry. But Relken is one of my knights, and the Church has spoken on that matter. I apologize. If you want to know more, I suggest you speak to a representative of the Church."
Lillian "I am no expert, but I do remember a few songs from my youth," Sidhanar admits.

"It would be lovely to sit down and learn those with you sometime," Lillian says.

Sidhanar nods. "Perhaps on my next day off then."
