"Orcs! Six feet under is where they belong," Roshek spits, his head still pounding from the drinking contest. "Tell me, Master Janner, do they trouble your town often?"

Janner "Orcs and goblins and their kin are plentiful in the hilly and mountainous northern lands, especially in the northeast-including the countryside around Penhaligon and Stallanford. They'll raid folks out on the less traveled roads and paths, hit small camps at night but typically they don't brazenly raid the larger settlements. We should make haste. If you need any extra gear, I can offer you some rope, lamp oil, iron spikes, a 10’ pole, a tinder box, and torches. If you need them, but we should move on now if you are ready."
(OOC: If taken the amounts are as follows: rope (2 50' lengths or hemp rope), lamp oil (2 flasks), iron spikes (24), a 10’ pole, a tinder box, and 18 torches.)

Ah, the bowstring but sets the tempo, My queen. T'is the cries of the wicked themselves that form the melody. Elethor stands ready to go, he does not pick up any additional supplies

The rope is too heavy, but Daos will take a torch, the lamp oils and the tinderbox. "Alright, let's get going then. Please lead the way, Janner."

Once everyone is ready Janner leads the way. You follow Janner at a slow walking pace as he traces a trail that you can only see part of the time a blood stain in the grass here, a tuft of material or hair there, some heavy foot marks in damp patches. But after a couple of hours Janner stops and points to some foothills about two miles in the distance. “There”, he says. “Head for those caves. That’s where the orcs’ll be. I wish I could come with you, but an old man like me would slow you down.” Though he clearly wishes he could fight with you, Janner turns and heads back to Stallanford. You march on warily, and soon you see a hilly mound with an unmistakable narrow, dark entrance. You are a hundred feet or so away, but the rock cover is such that you can probably get a lot closer without being detected. What plans will you make against the orcs within?

(Roshek takes a coil of rope and 10 iron spikes. Adding a waterskin, which seems like a good thing, he'll be lightly encumbered)
"Let's get into cover behind those rocks and get a closer look at the entrance from there," Roshek suggests.

Daos nods and moves forward carefully, watching the cave for any movement.

Anya also finds a hiding spot among the rocks.

Hekras & Q nod their heads and do likewise.

"It occurs to me that we should've asked if anyone had noted how many orcs were in the raiding party," Roshek mutters to the others as he strains his eyes to see into the darkness of the cave.

"Not sure it would much matter," Daos laments. "If this is their lair, their raiding party likely did not consist of their entire group, but only a fraction of their true number."

"And if that 'small fraction' was enough to burn a temple and kidnap a cleric..." Anya says, gritting her teeth.

"Or, it's a small tribe and the raiding party was most of its strength," Roshek counters. "Either way, knowing the number of raiders would at least have told us the absolute minimum number of warriors this tribe has." Mr. DM, can we see anything from our vantage point?

From your vantage point you see that the cave entrance is about 10 feet wide. Moving up next to the entrance you can see a passageway leads north from the entrance for about 10 feet and opens into a larger cave. You can’t see much in there because the flickering torchlight is dim, but you hear a loud grunt and snoring. What will you do?

"Elethor, Hekras* - you two want to be the first in? Neither of you needs a torch to see and you're both light on your feet, I reckon," Roshek whispers.
*Assuming the Hekras and Q actually came with us?
