Hi yall, I'm hoping to join too! I'm sure I can come up with an idea -Igordragonian, my initial idea also had a volo race: bugbear oath of watchers paladin follower of Grankhul, a bugbear god who stitched open the eyes on decapitated heads to watch over his sleeping brother Hruggek, but since not volo I can easily choose from one of my many other ideas, I just need to figure out what races are in Player's Handbook, Elemental Evil Player's Guide, Xanathar's Guide to Everything.
I know it wasn't listed in the allowed books, but since it is radiant citadel which I think of as adjacent, I thought I'd check: not the spelljammer adventures in space books right?
How about a dragonborn druid came to the citadel escorting an animal to the Preserve of the Ancestors (I haven't read very far into the lore yet), I know you said that we were going to be "Shieldbearers" right so maybe escorting was just how I got here -or is both a thing?-? I haven't decided on that but is current idea. Question- in wildshape would a dragonborn still be able to use their breath weapon? RAW says "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so" but it is not clear to me whether or not the transformed animal would be capable of doing so.

Spelljammer lore is okay. If you want your character to be from the Rock of Bral or something, for instance, or to have arrived via a spelljammer, etc. But classes, races, spells, feats, anything mechanical, I don't have access to those books so those are off the table. Same with any other world.
Dragonborn Druid works. They escorted a rare animal and then decided to stick around and join up with the Shieldbearers, maybe? What world did you envision them coming from?
As for using breath weapon while wildshaped...yeah, I would allow that. I don't think it would be game breaking, at least.
Anyway, I added you to the group, so you should be able to post in the Character Creation thread now in the Radiant Citadel forum.

Oh, BTW I have a fancy account with DnDBeyond so you can read them, and a bunch of others. There just needs to be a campaign within DnDBeyond that I am in, then anyone in that campaign can read the books I own (which is a fair amount but not all) and I think also the books that other people in the campaign own.

Thanks, I appreciate that. But I don't have an account there. And also, I'm working at my own pace to slowly add new books to my game. It takes time for me to acquire them, carefully read them over, understand them, and then implement them. I'll probably do Volo's next, but for now, I'm still feeling out Xanathar's which I only recently added.

account there is free, it is only the fancy accounts that cost money which you wouldn't need since I already have one. But yeah, I know there are def people who don't like reading books on the internet. I intend to make my character on there just cuz it makes it easy, but it is also portable to other things like PDF so it shouldn't be a problem for me to stick it wherever you need me to.

Yeah, that's fine. Once I have your stat block, I keep a copy of it on the site in a Character Stats thread and edit it as needed, so I only need to see the character sheet once, really. It's good for players to have their own copies, though, in case there are discrepancies.

Question: I just realized that the allowed sources are all from before Tasha's made racial ability score increases able to be moved around. Does this mean that we are playing with the ability score increases initially assigned to races? The text of Tasha's: "If you’d like your character to follow their own path, you may alter your Ability Score Increase trait and assign ability score increases tailored to your character. Here’s how to do it: take any ability score increase you gain in your race or subrace and apply it to an ability score of your choice. If you gain more than one increase, you can’t apply those increases to the same ability score, and you can’t increase a score above 20." - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Chapter 1, Customizing Your Origin www.dndbeyond.com/sources/tcoe/character-options#AbilityScoreIncreasesAlso for those of us without the Adventurer's Domestic Handbook, do you have a pdf or something that you don't mind sharing? I mean, if you do and don't want to share that is understandable too.

So I was skeptical initially because my favorite concept I had was a Paladin, and I realized somebody else mentioned Paladin, so I was hunting around for another idea. But then I read the post and it looked like you decided on Druid instead. Anyway, this is what I've got...
Zinda, Lightfoot Halfling, Paladin: Oath of Redemption
Livana worked in the jeli gardens from a young age, helping to supply the kingdom's renown and took a great deal of pride in her work, actively participating in the Court of Flowers and the March of Vice. However, she lived on the border of poverty. Foul creatures from beyond the edge of the jungle destroyed enough of the crops and equipment that her family couldn't recover. Out of desperation and frustration, she joined the Bloodletters and felt justified in fighting against the system. After a couple years a new head of security, Madame Samira Arah, began establishing highly effective advancements. Livana was captured and questioned, where she gave in and volunteered a great deal of information against the Bloodletters. When confirmed, she was offered a reform program as an initiate of the Silent Verse. For the first time in years, she finally felt like she had the opportunity to contribute to what felt right. Now she is sent to several different areas, primarily to recruit and publicize the pride and joy of her homeland, the art and culture presented through the jeli flower. Livana believes everyone has the power to redeem themselves and fight for what they believe in.
Oh, almost forgot to mention. She was sent to the Radiant Citadel specifically for two reasons: 1. As part of the reformation program through the House of Convalescence, which is how she became established with the Shieldbearers. 2. Sort of witness-protection-program as she would likely not be in good graces with the Bloodletters at this particular time.
Also, most of her publicity on the jeli community is personal.

Definitely take paladin. I have a bunch of possibilities and am flexible to what I play, but also I don't believe in not playing something because the party role has already been filled, so two paladins I think is a great plan if you decide to go paladin and if I somehow end up back there (currently unlikely but possible).

Question: I just realized that the allowed sources are all from before Tasha's made racial ability score increases able to be moved around. Does this mean that we are playing with the ability score increases initially assigned to races? Correct, I haven't implemented Tasha's yet, so this is basically a 5.0 game for lack of a better term. Also for those of us without the Adventurer's Domestic Handbook, do you have a pdf or something that you don't mind sharing? I mean, if you do and don't want to share that is understandable too. I do have a pdf, but even ignoring the ethics of sharing it for free, I'm not sure how I would share it (it's too big to upload into the forums themselves). If there's some specific part of it you'd like access to, I wouldn't mind copy and pasting it onto the forums. But overall, it's pretty optional. It's mostly just rules for marriage, raising families, running businesses, and such. I like it and decided to make it an option for use if a player already has it, but it's not required or anything. I know some players aren't into that sort of thing. So I was skeptical initially because my favorite concept I had was a Paladin, and I realized somebody else mentioned Paladin, so I was hunting around for another idea. This sounds great. I went ahead and added you to the group, so you should be able to post in the Character Creation thread now and work with the other players on your characters. Although so far nobody has actually posted in that thread yet, so I'm a little nervous I screwed up the permissions, so if anyone cannot post there, let me know. Anyway, that brings us to four players, the bare minimum needed. If more sign up, great. But for now, we can probably start as soon as the four of you finish and turn in your characters.

I know some players aren't into that sort of thing. Yeah, the ethics of sharing for free is the barrier to me, which for myself in this instance I think can be morally explained away via not sharing it beyond the immediate game of dnd to allow for easier implementation of the book. The how to: multiple methods email, but might be too big for email, but I'd be really surprised if it is too big to upload to google drive then share the google drive document. As for specific parts: IDK whats in it besides what you just told me so I cannot say what parts I might be interested in. I guess one option would be to ask for the table of contents if there is one, then I'd be able to make a decision better. Daos- "Anyway, that brings us to four players, the bare minimum needed. If more sign up, great. But for now, we can probably start as soon as the four of you finish and turn in your characters." I'm going to need to take some time to think, I hadn't considered a non-Tasha's game when building my like 30 odd character sheets of ideas. Probably will happen either this weekend or early next week. I'm almost done reading lore, I'm DMing a group this Sunday that I have some work to do for but that is my primary time barrier.

Yeah, no, I wasn't trying to rush anyone or anything.
Anyway, I can post the table of contents sure. I actually bought this book because Ginny advertised it in one of her videos. It really sounded up my alley. I always wanted to do an inter-generational game, where we play a party to a certain point, have a massive time skip, then play their kids. Not really possible for a forum game, but maybe something I might try one day in a face-to-face game.
Anyway, here we go:
Introduction Romantic Relationships Family Relationships Apprenticing Owning a Business Buying Land and Establishing a Home Character Options (Subclasses, Backgrounds, Feats) NPCs Marriage Ceremonies Magic Items Stat Blocks

Since I'm in the character creation phase, I suppose the thing I am currently most interested in is the Character Options. Since I don't have race, class, which of 15 worlds, yet I'm not yet ready for the other stuff but might be interested after I have a concrete idea.
