Drezden "Fine by me." the dwarf ranger finishes anything left of his meal and pint gives Gimak a salute "Yer welcome to join us tomorrow as well after we figure out what the constable wants with us, hope to see you again Gimak." then the dwarf heads on up to his room for some rest.

"Sounds good," Gimak says. "See you all in the morning."
Maria heads up to her room and checks it out. It's a simple room, nothing fancy, and housing only a bed, chamber pot, a chair and small desk. Certainly not worth an entire gold piece. After checking it for secret doors or passages (and finding none), she secures the window and locks the door before getting some rest.
Eringard heads up to her own room, while Elvarian accompanies Drezden to their shared room.
The following morning, the party wakes up in their rooms to the sound of a light rain pattering on the roof. After getting dressed, washing up, and otherwise preparing themselves, they head downstairs. There, they find a group of three waiting for them, all wearing the Zhentarim sigil. One is an orc in a leather jerkin, armed with a club and shield. (Maria recognizes him as the same orc that was here last night.) The other two are human, a man and a woman, both wearing ring mail and armed with clubs and shields, but also with long bows and quivers strapped to their backs. "These must be the ones," says the orc. "We're your escort to the Constable's Tower."
Gimak is already waiting for them, looking a bit grim at their 'honor guard.'
=============
It is now Ches 10th, 1367 DR at Ninth Bell. It is raining lightly.
Drezden recovers 1 HP. Gribben memorizes Burning Hands and Magic Missile. Eringard memorizes Bless, Cure Light Wounds, and Cure Light Wounds.
(OOC: Maria may change out her spells if she wishes.)

Drezden gives a silent barely noticeable nod to Gimak "Alright then off to the constable's office it is then."

Maria shakes her head and heads downstairs and follows the Zhents.
"Nice of you to ask nicely.", she says sarcastically.

The party is escorted into the Constable's tower and up to one of the upper floors, where the walls are hung with bright tapestries and the floor is littered with dirty rugs. Constable Tren, a tall blond man with grey eyes and a powerful build, is sitting at a heavy oaken table, listlessly toying with some papers. He rises and smiles tightly when they enter. He makes a dismissive gesture to his men to stand guard outside, then gestures to some chairs for the party to sit. "I have eyes and ears all over this town, so it didn't take long for me to hear of your arrival. I've heard you've been snooping around Eagle's Eyrie. I've also heard you have taken an interest in the recent sickness that has plagued our town. Is that right?" he asks. "Based on your dress, it appears you are mercenaries, yes? Perhaps we can help each other in this matter."

Drezden bows his head in greeting the constable "Constable greetings sir." then taking a seat politely so as not to offend or upset the constable "I'll not deny on either, we are indeed interested in the sickness and would hope to be able to help rid your town of it. Eagles Eyrie has some interest though so far the accounts of it being the cause of the illness appears to be just speculation. Adventurers we are or if you wish to call us mercenaries would be an apt term as well. I do however wish to report that we did spy some unusual creatures in the night that from what we can tell from scouting and watching them is the most likely cause of the illness here."

Maria knows to keep silent. She did not want to bring any unwanted attention to herself and let the adults talk. She keeps her head high and hopes that no one would recognize her or see anything of her that of her mother.

Despite her attempt to avoid drawing attention, Tren takes notice of Maria and looks at her with the look of a man who has seen someone he thinks he recognizes and is attempting to recall where. But Drezden's statement breaks his concentration, and he turns his attention to the dwarf. "Creatures, you say? These wouldn't happen to be the 'night dwarves' that the rumors and gossip speak of, would they?"

Drezden "Aye though the rumors hold more truth and they aint dwarves. They're something rangers and druids are taught about called Nightshade or Wood Woses. They looks a bit like a gray dwarf with no clothing other than odd plant life growing from em, they're evil creatures for sure. They can use some sort of druidic magic though i know not what kinds of spells. They were running around last night with some sort of net that was taking something out of the people they used it on. We gave chase then the darned things vanished into a tree."

"From what I hear, they sure look like dwarves," Tren responds. "And more than that, this whole business started right around the time a bunch of Brightblade dwarves showed up and started poking around the Eyrie. I believe they must have done something...triggered some ancient curse or hex that their ancestors left behind, and this is what has caused the mess. I'd send my own men down there to take care of it, but we're spread thin right now. That rebellious dog, Randal Morn, is always causing trouble and some of my men have succumbed to the sickness, as well. So I'll hire you lot to head to the Eyrie, find out what's causing this illness, and put an end to it."

Thorn nods "Aye they weren't near the Eyrie we didn't see anything out there aside from a huge gorge that nothing could cross. Sure these things look a little like a dwarf but I never seen a dwarf with moss, leaves and thorns for a beard and clothing."

"Aye, the best lead we have is another stake out, ambush them by the tree." Elvarian adds.

"And then what?" asks Tren in response to Elvarian's suggestion. "If we want to end this disease, we need to stop it at its source. I highly doubt capturing or even killing one or two of these things will make any big difference. We need to find their lair and destroy them there. If not the Eyrie, what would you suggest? Staking out a tree strikes me as a pointless waste of time."
