Maria feels herself suddenly go weightless as she begins to fall. It almost seems to happen in slow motion for her. She opens her mouth to scream, but nothing seems to come out. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Drezden slides to the precipice and reaches down, grabbing her wrist with his meaty hand at the last second. Her body suddenly stops, although her stomach tries to keep going without her. Gingerly, the dwarf lifts her back up the ledge.
"That was close," Gimak comments. "I think maybe we should consider climbing across the hill wall instead. It has plenty of handholds and small ledges, so it should be doable."

(OOC: Climbing across the hill wall will grant a +40% to anyone's climbing odds.)

Drezden "Close call indeed yes Gimak that sounds a better plan to me. Lets all take a safer route."

Gribben manages to climb up to the other side, joining Elvarian. One end of his rope is still tied to his pack.
Gimak, meanwhile, looks up at the hill wall. "May as well go first then," he says. Gingerly, he begins climbing across the wall, carefully searching for hand and footholds before proceeding. Eventually, he makes it to the other side, joining up with Elvarian and Gribben.

Drezden follows the same way Gimak did, and manages to get across the gorge on the other side, joining Elvarian, Gribben and Gimak.
Now only Eringard and Maria remain.

(OOC: The rope was only 50'. So he climbed 30 feet down, then walked 20 feet across the gorge bottom, then climbed back up another 30 feet? The other end of the rope would have tailed after him then. He never secured it to anything, did he?) So, as the rope stretches, at the bottom of the gorge, it's less than 50 foot. as he climbs it's less yet. 50 foot is plenty.

Are there any ropes that still have an end on the side of the chasm where Eringard and Maria stand? Nobody seems to have listened to Eringard, she said earlier that they needed three ropes to tie across the chasm to cross... What she wanted to do is to tie two ropes parallel to each other to walk on and one higher up to hold on to.
Eringard looks at Maria. "Do you want to try to go the way that Grimak and Drezden went? I will hold the rope and just give out as much as you need, so that you can't fall to the bottom. Then, when you're across, I'll tie the rope to myself and the rest of you hold your end so that I can't fall so deep."

OOC:We didn't follow what was said because per the DM the ropes are too short to reach from one end to the other of the chasm to begin with.

(OOC: The main problem is that nobody is being terribly descriptive or thorough in their posts. Here are the status of the three ropes, at least as far as I have been able to piece together.
Gimak's rope was taken by Elvarian. He tied one end around himself and apparently left the other end where it was, but if he secured it to anything, he didn't specify. He then climbed down the gorge, across it, and back up the other side. If he did secure the other end to something, then there is one rope stretching across the gorge. If he didn't, then likely the other end is just sitting there on the other side.
Gribben's rope was tied to his pack, and what he did with the other end was not specified. He climbed down the gorge, across it, then back up the other side. He now seems to be implying that he held onto the other end of the rope, and now wants to drag his pack across the sharp rocks, likely ripping it in the process?
The final rope is Maria's. She tied one end to herself but didn't secure the other end to anything. She then tried to climb down the gorge, slipped, and was saved by Drezden. As far as I know, the rope is still tied to her.)

Maria will accept Eringard's help, already rather shook up after the close call. She goes more slowly and surely this time.
