Escape Room was exactly what I thought it would be; Saw meets The Thing.
I liked it a lot, but Snacs wasn't as impressed.
The people who made the movie clearly went "we want a psychological horror movie about escape rooms" then conjured up whatever justification they could manage to make that work. The characters are three dimensional and relatable, but the justification for the events of the movie is pretty thin. I didn't really care; it only even comes up in the last 1/10th of the movie. The rest of the movie was scary, and the 'puzzles' were engaging enough to draw me in.

Hey, what about the 80’s one? 😁 While Bumblebee’s ending does allude to some elements of the first Bayformers, the fact that the Autobots are on earth at the end means that it’s not a direct prequel; more of a prequel-reboot. Admittedly, I barely remember the original animated film (beyond the You Got the Touch song and the fact that most of the cast is killed off) from when I saw it in theaters as a child (I was four). I'm not sure how it holds up today, but I do remember I was pretty upset about Optimus Prime dying.
And I'd be happy with Bumblebee being a reboot, as long as Bay does not come within a hundred yards of any future sequels. I was a HUGE Transformers fan as a child, although I had mostly outgrown it once I was in adolescence. But I went to see the first Bay movie out of nostalgia and was so, so disappointed, that I never saw any of the sequels after that. But Bumblebee is basically what I had been hoping for back then. If they make more movies similar to this, I'm in.
Speaking of G1, another thing I liked about Bumblebee over the Bay movies is that the Transformers were actually recognizable. During the flashback on Cybertron, I recognized a number of characters, even ones without speaking lines who only appeared for a few seconds, because they resembled their actual G1 counterparts instead of just a mishmash of shredded metal. I almost lost it when, I got to see Soundwave (and he even sounded right!) and Ravager, Shockwave, Starscream, Arcee, Wheeljack, etc., and could immediately tell who they were supposed to be.
I also liked how this movie is missing Bay's trademark racist caricatures and sexy fanservice. I'm assuming Hailee Steinfeld's audition for this role had nothing to do with her washing the director's car in a bikini, for instance. :/

Well, Transformers certainly has a lot more to offer than Bay's take...ever seen Animated or Prime? (if not, I'd definitely recommend. They're some of the best Transformers meida to ever grace the Earth.)

Actually, I haven't. I saw the original G1 cartoon back when I was very little, Beast Wars/Beast Machines when I was in adolescence, and then at around that point I had sort of moved on from the franchise. I haven't seen anything newer than that, but I might look them up online when I get the chance.

Prime’s on Netflix (or at least, it was) and available from Amazon Video (not free, though). Maybe Hulu, too; I’m not intimately familiar with that service. Animated’s not as much of a must-watch, but it’s still worth checking out. It was actually how I got into Transformers.

Saw Aquaman tonight. It was kind of predictable and rote, but fun and very colorful. I really dug the aesthetic, especially Atlantis and its arsenal, technology and peoples.

Just got back from seeing The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
It reminds me so much of how my sister and I used to play with our toys when we were kids, right down to our rooms being different worlds and the hallway being a portal that connected them.

I’m glad you liked it! Watching LEGO Movies in theater for my brother’s birthday has become a sort of tradition at this point, since they tend to have February releases, so we have that all planned out.

Animated’s not as much of a must-watch, but it’s still worth checking out. It was actually how I got into Transformers. Oh hey, looking it up I totally watched at least the first season or two of this when it was airing on Tv. It's really good-the story's a lot more gen-1 transformers. Just got back from seeing Bumblebee, the first ever GOOD Transformers movie. This is a quintessential 80's movie, and not just because it takes place in the 80's. It's heart and soul, it's very core, is very much taken from the tropes of 80's films. I loved it. The best part, since it's a prequel, the fact that I haven't watched the last four didn't impact my following the story at all.
Yeah! It definitely felt like a kids 80s movie, I definitely dig that aesthetic. They've officially announced it's a retcon prequel-so you don't need to know the other bayformers at all(they're.. mediocre. I enjoyed them as the dumb popcorn-with-giant-robots-and-hot-girls aesthetic they are but I'm definitely down for more like this one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) Hey! Did you know this week was apparently Alien 's 40th birthday? Me and Ezeze went and saw Into The Spiderverse, and that was amazing. The animation is gorgeous and the story just, fixes every problem I had with the Miles Morales paper comic when it originally came out. And finally, I just got back from watching Battle Angel Alita. It was surprisingly good, and way more brutal than I thought they'd take it, even considering I've read the very violent manga it's adapted from. I was really worried that the 'anime eyes' they gave Alita would be too uncanny valley but after a bit I barely noticed it, and it wasn't disconcerting at all. The run-time was something like two and a half hours, but it just sort of... ends? without any real warning. I think they're setting up for a sequel.

I'm actually still watching Transformers Prime; I'm about a third through season 3 now.
And yes, I was pleased to hear Bumblebee will be a reboot. I only hope that the studio doesn't screw it up, and make the same mistakes as before. I'm pretty sure at least part of the reason Bumblebee was so good was because the studio wrote it off as a lost cause and were not at all expecting it to make as much money as it did. My worry is now that Bumblebee has proven popular, they'll decide to be more hands-on from now on, and will ultimately screw it up again.

Just got back from seeing Captain Marvel. Loved it. Goose stole the show. It was great seeing Coulson again, even briefly. And Carol's and Fury's 'buddy cop' thing really worked. And we get two more MCU movies in the next few months!
