"Greetings, noble Kinnuki, I am Malavar of Tempus. My companions and I thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We have been employed to discover the whereabouts of a tower that once stood on the shores of the lake known as Maer Dualdon. Apparently it sank into the lake many years ago due to an unseasonable thaw and its location was lost to posterity. However, our employer has heard rumours that the tower's location may be known to you. If so, we hope you will share your knowledge with us."

While Drizzt is translating Malavar's words to Kinnuki, Malavar sneaks a quick peak into the bag and notices an exquisitely carved image of a woman. It is yellowed with age, but the detail on it is so lifelike that the figure appears almost to be breathing.
After Kinnuki gives his answer, Drizzt translates it back into Common. "I know of the tower you speak of--an evil place that sank into the mud during the Great Thaw. It stood over the great forked tree of Mituki, the legendary hero of the Fox and Sky. Must have been 60 feet tall, that tree. I remember when the tower sank, the great tree bent back toward the tower, away from the lake, as if the very hand of Mituki were trying to bury the thing."

Dallion watches the newcomer his gaze alert. Dallion notices how Drizzt seemed more helpful and thoughtful then others of his kin. The Newcomer seemed to accept him but then again humans could be naive.

Drezden repeats his question he asked Drizzt earlier about why the nomad does not simply join one of the other clans out here why he chooses the life of a nomad. Knowing it is not relevant to the quest he asks anyway out of curiosity.

Drizzt relays the question, then translates the answer. "I am the last of my people. For generations, we lived here, on the ice. To leave it, to discard my identity and lifestyle to join another tribe, would be an insult to their memory."

Malavar scratches his chin, carefully considering Kinnuki's reply. "The tree bent away from the lake? Does that mean that the tower didn't fall into the lake, but that it instead fell on the shore? It seems odd then that no one has found the tower since. Does the tree still stand? Can it be used to find the tower now?"

Jaxle- Being very quiet since the drow saved them. He finally speaks up. I believe Drizzit said it had sunk into the mud on the shore. That maybe the old tree bent over and pushed it down into the dirt. That it at least how I heard it.

After relaying the question, Drizzt translates the answer. "I believe the tree still stands, although bent, yes. It's as good a landmark to find the cursed tower as any."

Drezden shakes his head at all the back and forth "Had me thinking the tree was his word for the tower. So ok it's really a tree good and it marks where the tower went down, good enough I guess we have out destination any other questions?"

"Well that will hopefully make our search easier, noble Kinnuki. You wouldn't happen to also know on which side of the lake the tree stands?"
Malavar pauses for a moment before deciding to continue questioning the old barbarian. "I'm also curious as to why you refer to the tower as an evil place? Our employer was quite adamant that the fellow that used to inhabit it was a kindly soul, concerned only with the healing arts. I take it you don't share that opinion?"

Drezden "Well if you recall usually Kinnuki's people and other barbarian tribes consider anything magical not from their gods to be evil."

"Perhaps, though Kinnuki here strikes me as old and wise enough not to fall prey too easily to base prejudice."

Drizzt translates for Kinnuki. "From what I know, the wizard, Damien, was an evil man who dabbled in things man was not meant to know. His wife, Mathilda, was another matter. She was kind and caring, and helped my tribe with healing and compassion when they needed it. I never understood what she saw in him."

"You knew his wife personally?" Malavar asks sharply. "I had gained the impression that this Damien fellow came to these parts many generations of men ago."

Drizzt translates the question, and Kinnuki's eyes widen and his jaw goes slack a moment. Clearly caught off guard by the question, he stammers a reply. Drizzt translates the reply as, "What difference does it make? Why do you ask?"
