"Maybe none at all, noble Kinnuki, but if you knew his wife then I surmise that you also knew Damien, not to mention the exact location of his tower. I find it passing strange that our employer wasn't clear that there are people alive in Icewind Dale who had both met Damien Morienus and seen his tower while it still stood."
"You said that from what you know, Damien dabbled in things man wasn't meant to know. Our employer, on the other hand, insists that Damien's ambition was to produce a healing salve that could heal any wound or disease. And as my colleague Drezden said, he also warned us that superstition could have caused the local tribes to misunderstand Damien's purposes. So I ask you - what do you know of Damien's work? And if he was indeed an evil man, what was his reaction to his wife aiding your tribe?"

Drezden continues to listen intently having no further questions himself.

Kinnuki hesitates for a bit after hearing Drizzt's translation of Malavar's words. Then he begins to speak. Drizzt seems surprised by what he hears, but manages to translate it despite himself.
"It is true...I was there, a hundred years ago, when it all happened. I remain alive with the help of my divine magic and my people's stubbornness. The man you speak of, Damien, was a powerful wizard. But I know nothing of a healing salve. And he certainly wasn't a good man. It all started when he created that tower with his magic, right on top of a holy place where the druids of my people worshiped. When he first appeared, he convinced many of my people he was an earth god, with his ability to transform rocks into his tower. He would often take aged, dying men and women into his tower to experiment on them. But my people were afraid of angering him, so did nothing for many months.
"I, however, had had enough. I went to his tower to confront him, but he was not there. Rather, his wife, Mathilda greeted me. And...things grew from there. Neither of us intended for it to happen, but we found ourselves falling in love. She claimed Damien had been a good man when she met him, but over the years his dabbling in the dark arts twisted him, causing him to love power more than her. Eventually, I convinced her to leave and come with me. And the two of us had a daughter together, Jukini." He opens his bag and pulls out the figure Malavar noticed before. He looks at it affectionately, then frowns before continuing. "However, Damien was not pleased at losing his wife. Not because he loved her, but he saw it as a wound to his pride that a 'barbarian savage' would steal her away from him. He summoned two demons and sent them after us. But, my people were skilled in hiding in the snowlands, so we remained hidden for many years. Eventually, the demons grew frustrated and decided to use their hellfire to melt away all of the ice to find us. This is...what led to the Great Thaw. The tundra flooded, and the tower sank into the earth. And all of my family, my tribe, were killed...except myself and Jukini. At least, until her fever took her, too. Now only I remain."
In answer to Jaxle's question, Taska says, "Regis might know more about where to find this tree. We'll need to return to Lonelywood to report to him and resupply anyway," she points out.

"A sorrowful tale, noble Kinnuki, and I thank you for sharing it. It may be that our employer doesn't know of Damien Morienus' true nature, but somehow I doubt that. If his aim had been to produce a healing salve, I am sure Mathilda would have mentioned it to you." Turning to his travelling companions, he says: "My friends, we must proceed with caution once we find the tower. Whatever Peddywinkle is after, we should make certain that it isn't harmful before turning it over to him."

Drezden wasn't going to say anything about the wizard's wife but listens to the answer and nods.

Dallion remains quiet as the others speak obviously his racial prejudice is showing through, but he seems to have the sense to remain to himself.

Kinnuki says something more to Drizzt, and the drow nods before saying, "Kinnuki has offered to accompany us back to Lone Tree. He says he has something he needs to take care of in that area. From there, I can guide you the rest of the way back to Lonelywood, where you can report to Regis and bring him his goods."

With that decided, Kinnuki helps prepare a good meal of caribou venison and fish, and then the party beds down for the night after setting a watch. The following morning, the party begins the two-day journey back to Lone Tree. Nobody bothers them along the way. Between Drizzt and Kinnuki, it's as if any monsters out there just know better than to try.
Once they reach Lone Tree again, Kinnuki prepares to part ways with them. Drizzt translates his farewell. "Good luck on your quest. And if you ever have need to venture back into the Sea of Moving Ice, remember me," he says.

"We shall, noble Kinnuki," Malavar replies with a respectful nod.
"We should head back to Lonelywood and finish our business with Regis, then we can go looking for the tree Kinnuki spoke of... Looking for something, Dallion?" Malavar inquires.

Jaxle- Shakes Kinnuki hand thanks him for his guidance. Then turns to his fellow adventurers. When we see Regis we should inquire a bit more about this healing salve. Since we now know that this mage was not a good man.
