Ravarie looks at Lalora in confusion. "Uh, appropriate?" She asks. It is clear she doesn't have a clue as to why it matters if they share a room or not.

"Well then, if Grognak doesn't mind sleeping in the stable, then we shall require single rooms for myself, Lady Ravarie, and Captain Reeker there, and a double room for our elvish friends," Dorias answers the innkeep, putting down three steel pieces on the counter for the singles rooms. "I assume sleeping in the stable is free, considering the undoubtedly lower standard you are offering an otherwise paying guest?" If Grognak has changed his mind and actually wants a room, let me know and I'll edit this post. It's a bit unclear to me ATM.

Lalora doesn't offer any elaboration on that. She simply stares Ravarie down, with her arms crossed, as if daring her to object. Clearing his throat in a bit of embarrassment, Sorrith stands and walks to the bar, to offer a coin, as well.
The innkeeper says, "Sleeping in the stable...would also cost a steel piece. Times are tough for us all these days, after all, and one must make a living."

Grognak grunts. “Will sleep OUTSIDE stables. Don’t pay for that.”

"A steel piece for the stable, a steel piece for a room. Grognak, if you take the stable over the room you're letting this one rob you," Dorias chuckles.

Ravarie doesn't say anything to counter Lalora. Instead she simply shrugs it off, and waits for Dorias to finish paying.

"Sleeping outside is illegal," the innkeeper tells Grognak. "The guard will arrest you and toss you in jail for the night instead."

Grognak sighs in defeat. “Fine. Will take room.”

"Well then, one more room, innkeep," Dorias says, dropping another steel piece on the counter. "Now that that's settled, I'm curious, what's the purpose of the bonfire we saw people building when we arrived? And the name of your lord - the guards never mentioned it."

The innkeeper hands out the keys for each room. "Ah, probably prayer," he answers. "With all the curses this town has been inflicted with, many are hoping that Habbakuk will step in and save us. Not that it's ever worked before, though. And our lord's name is Tassos Glarou. He's a noble from up north, and he's been our lord since the ogres left."

"What do you mean curses?" Ravarie asks the innkeep.

The bartender leans forward. "Well, it started a month ago. Whenever the fishermen would return, they would find a handful of bad fish in their catch. It's hard to describe what was wrong with them. They were alive, but...corrupted. Tainted. They seemed like perfectly normal fish, but cut them open and they were black, and full of some kind of ooze. Toxic. Inedible. Nobody could explain what was causing it. But with each catch, there were more and more of these corrupt fish, until eventually we got to the point where entire catches had to be discarded. Our lord decided to send out our three fishing boats further out into the bay--one east, one west, and one south. This seemed to help. The corrupt fish were local only, and the fish further out were fine. But then yesterday there was this horrible storm, and although it is getting late, none of the fishing boats have returned yet. It is most disquieting.
"However," he adds. "A couple of weeks ago, we started having serious problems with wolves. A pack of them live out in the wild, and every now and again they would bold enough to try raiding one of our farms for livestock. Overall, it wasn't a serious problem. We'd chase them off, and maybe they'd get away with a chicken or two. But as I said, a couple of weeks ago, things got much worse. The wolves started raiding us nightly. And became far more aggressive; even attacking and killing a few people when we tried to chase them off. Again, nobody is quite sure what caused this change of behavior in them. Our lord decided to start sending out hunters, to help make up for the lost meat. However, the wolves attacked the hunters, too. The last hunting party, only one survivor returned, and she is still recovering from her wounds."
He shakes his head. "This has all been quite troublesome. Half of the food we harvest, catch and raise go to the lord's manor. In order to keep up with his quota, there has been far less food to go around for the rest of us. I suspect at this rate, half of us will be too weak to stand in another few weeks. So, with no other options, the people turn to the old gods. They pray to Habbakuk for salvation. I suppose it beats sitting around doing nothing, but not by much."

"Wolves don't typically do that," Ravarie says thoughtfully. "Do you think the survivor would be willing to talk about what happened?" She asks.

"All this sounds serious indeed," Dorias answers, nodding in sympathy. "I'm sad to say that we passed a wrecked fishing boat on our way here. It had no name, but there was an image of kingfisher drawn on the side. We also found three bodies - two men and a woman - that were probably the crew. I picked up this pendant from the woman," he says, showing the copper pendant he found. "Could it be one of your missing boats?"
