Gordon immediately takes a seat and makes himself comfortable. Before even being asked, in fact.
"Fighting, I'd bet," Gordon remarks. "Some band of marauding Draconians?

Sir Dietrich Eckhardt, Novice of the CrownARMOR CLASS: 16 | HP's: 11 |CURRENT: 11 |HIT DIE: 1d10 | CURRENT: 1d10 PASSIVE PERCEPTION: 11 | PASSIVE INSIGHT: 11 | INSPIRATION: 0 ACTIVE EFFECTS: None. CONDITIONS: None.Dietrich was of mixed emotion, overjoyed at seeing his old mentor, however, a pang of guilt, of shame, went through him as he followed the old Knight to his office, that limp, a wound never quite healed. A wound caused by a young man's pride, he shook his head, as he followed his mentor into the sparse chambers. When Sir Gaardsen congratulated him, Dietrich could only nod, it took him a moment before he could reply. "Only because of the patience, and stern hand of my mentor, Est Sularis oth Mithas," with that he took a seat, and waited for his mentor to explain the situation to the assembled company, used to the older knight's slower, methodical, method of sharing information.

"Straight to the point then?" Sir Karl asks, nodding to the Silvanesti. "I can respect that." He pulls out a scroll from a drawer on his desk and unfurls it out onto the desk's surface, to show the party. It is a map of the eastern half of Solamnia and the other nations that neighbor it. (OOC: Click on the map to enlarge to full size.)
"Here we are at Vingaard Keep," Sir Karl states, pointing to the dot east of the Vingaard Mountain range. "Now then, when the war ended, the Whitestone Council had several outposts built to keep an eye on our eastern border, in case the forces of darkness were to stir again. You can see them here, here, and here." He points to the Throtl Outpost just past the Solamnic border, the Gargath Outpost just past the Estwilde border, and the Jelek Outpost south of that. "These outposts also serve as a rest area for forces traveling east toward Neraka, as well as a means of protecting the caravans that have recently begun traveling to and from Solamnia. Now then, rumors have been circulating of late that speak of a new threat rising in the east, although, as yet there has been no clear evidence of what this threat might be. It could be just that--rumors. Hearsay. But on the off-chance there is truth to them, I feel they cannot be ignored. However, our forces are spread far too thin chasing down the remnants of the Dragonarmies to send any soldiers for the sake of rumors. So that's where you all come in. I would like you to accompany me to the Throtl outpost and look into these rumors. Have you any questions so far?" he asks.

Abelaard, sitting with his leg's crossed and a journal on his knees, looks up at the older Solamnic, "If I may, what exactly are the rumors? It is important to have as much information as possible, right from the start, if you are going to record history as it happens."

"Not to mention who are producing said rumors," Rof grumbles, "they could easily be intentional."
The words of his father drift through his mind unbidden. The best way to deal with an obvious trap... Rof causally swats at something unseen near his temple.
"But regardless of the source, I'm in. I've traveled that way not so long ago and have my own questions not yet resolved in Throtl. The way will be safer in company."

Gordon grunts. "'Looking into things' isn't my specialty unless it ends with a brawl. But I have a bad feeling it will."

"If I may, what exactly are the rumors?" "Just that something evil is afoot in that area," Sir Karl answers. "People vanishing in the night, or acting strangely. Draconian sightings. And then there's the political upheaval in Throtl; supposedly, their king was recently overthrown and a hobgoblin sits on the throne now. I hope to learn more once we're in the area." "Not to mention who are producing said rumors," Rof grumbles, "they could easily be intentional." "Merchants, travelers, soldiers...I first heard whispers of it in the Vingaard marketplace myself. It's hard to say by now what the original source of the rumors was," the knight admits.

Torquato ClorindidisHP: 7/7 - AC: 13 - Perception: 13 - Insight: 11 - Inspiration: No Torquato listened quietly, not feeling the need to add anything up to that point and taking the chance of studying the men in the room. The one who most captured the eye surely was the half-elf - Rof, was it? - his complexion was more of enough to make him stand out among the others, but apart from that there was a sullen and, sadly familiar aura about him. The aura of someone who lost someone dear. "But regardless of the source, I'm in. I've traveled that way not so long ago and have my own questions not yet resolved in Throtl. The way will be safer in company."
" I do not mean to pry, but I hope those 'questions' of yours won't distract your from our mission and make you a hindrance. You seem a smart man, but I thought I'd make sure." Then, turning towards the limping knight the elf adds: " Count me in, Sir. Even if this turns out to be a hoax, with the avampost being a rest area for those who travels to Neraka, there may still be something useful to learn. Do you know whose in charge of this specific outpost?"

"Do you know whose in charge of this specific outpost?" "I know of him," Sir Karl answers. "Commandant Ulric Thopin. He fought in the war, and is a decorated Knight of the Sword. I've never met him personally, but everything I've heard is that he is an honorable and respectable man."

CONDITIONS: None.Dietrich nodded, listening to each of his companion's questions, and Sir Gaardsen's response. "An expedition then, we would travel north along the Vingaard, until it is met by the Watching river, where we would turn east through Nightlund?" He considered their options, "A lengthy journey, if afoot, and I, for one, must admit, that as Novice, yet newly knighted, I have yet to procure a steed worthy of the name, provisions must be gathered, and a night abed, a full meal, and a hearty breakfast would be well and truly appreciated. The journey oft seems shorter with a full night's rest, a full belly, and a song in one's heart." He regarded his companions, an eclectic group, to be sure, but from their keen, and pointed questions, they seemed quick of wit, and suitable for the rigors ahead. "And a night spent speaking of our venture would allow us to take a measure of one another, so we are better equipped to face the perils of the journey."

Gordon frowns at Dietrich. "Can you say that again without speaking like a poet?" he asks, not having understood the Knight's point.

If we are to leave, the day might better be spent on equipping ourselves for such a journey, a night spent at a common house, reviewing maps, sharing a hearty meal, a night's sleep, and in the early morn after breaking our night's fast, we depart. Rested, well fed, and with high spirits."

"Very well," Sir Karl says. "I can arrange for rooms here in the keep for you tonight. We can set off first thing in the morning. If you need additional supplies, the Vingaard marketplace has just about anything one could hope to find."
