The wagon, as far as Robin can tell from his vantage point, appears to be filled with lumber. "Ah, no, it's not," the man admits. "See, I hadn't known how bad things were when I set out on this venture. If I had, I might have rethought it. And I certainly wouldn't have brought my daughter," he adds, putting a hand on the girl's shoulder. "After hearing lots of rumors and seeing how bad things were myself, I was kind of in a hurry to get us back to Vingaard as quickly as we could. So I tried to ford this creek, and I guess I should have tested the waters first. Now it's stuck good, and has been for the past two days."

CONDITIONS: None.Dietrich nodded in agreement at Robin's words, though his face blanched as the man mentioned the length of time the wagon had been stuck in the stream. "Two days man!" He clapped the older man on the shoulder, "then let's get you and your daughter on the road home, shall we. As for hospitality, I only ask for a fire with which to warm myself and dry my clothes once the task at hand is done." He looked to his companions, "Them that can help, please do, but have a care, and some of us should keep watch, lest set upon while we work. Ever vigilant, people."With that said, Dietrich stripped of his backpack, weaponry, and eventually armor, taking only a coil of rope, he walked through the stream towards the wagon. As he hit the water he clenched his teeth, "Ho! That is bloody cold!" But he continued forward, to determine if it was possible to free the wagon from the stream bed.

Gordon laughs at Dietrich's excuse--uh, reason, but sombers up when the man explains his reaction.
"Hey, sorry for scaring you," he apologizes. "Like the Knight said, I can bit, uh, uncouth. I didn't mean to cause any stress."
As Dietrich wades into the water, he shouts, "If you need some muscle, I'd be good to help out!"

Wading into the water, Dietrich moves to inspect the stuck wagon. A quick visual inspection reveals to him that the wagon’s front wheels are wedged between rocks. It should be possible to push it free again, with enough strength.
=============
(OOC: Dietrich can attempt to push the wagon free with a successful STR check, DC 15. If Gordon wants to assist, he can have advantage.)

He waited for Gordon to get into position, and shoved with all his worth once he saw his stout dwarven companion pull the front wheel free of the offending stone. {Out of Character Actions}OOC: Alright, since he said he'd help, I'll assume Gordon and I are working in tandem, so I'll throw a Strength check out, with advantage, otherwise we can just take the 1st check. pwABOee01d20+3, and with Advantage, 1d20+3. 1d20+3·1d20+3

"All right, hand's wheel it is," Gordon says, taking the position Dietrich instructed.

The man shakes his head. "We barely saw anyone, and those few we did kept a distance from us. Probably as scared that we were bandits as we were of them. Not surprising, this whole area is going to the Abyss. I think the Whitestone forces are pulling out entirely soon."
"Oh?" asks Sir Karl, arching a brow. "What makes you think that, if you don't mind my asking?"
"Well, sir, I haven't seen a single patrol since we left Vingaard. And Throtl Outpost barely had anyone guarding it," he answers. "I know I'm just a layman, but it sure looked like this place is being abandoned to me." Sir Karl frowns and makes a 'hmm' sound but doesn't say anything further. But it's clear from his expression that he finds this news troubling.
Meanwhile, Dietrich pushes on the wagon with all of his might, but he can't seem to quite budge it. But with Gordon joining in, the two manage to work together and free the wagon. After that, it's fairly easy to push it up to the shore. "Ah, you have my thanks, good sirs. I wasn't sure what we would do if you had never arrived. Please, take this. I know it's not much, but hopefully it will help you in your travels." He fishes out ten steel coins from his pouch and hands it over to the party.

"Just doing what needed to be," Gordon says, taking no special interest in accepting the steel. He notes the news about Thotl, and wonders what could have inspired them to abandon the place. Gas leak? Asbestos? Infiltration by a Sivak Spy? Who knows.

CONDITIONS: None.As Robin comes to help steady the load, as Gordon and Dietrich push the wagon up the bank, he nods his thanks at the diminutive ranger. "Well done, Gordon, sturdy as stone, you have my respect and admiration." He walked around the wagon, towards the fire, to warm himself from the rivers freezing waters, setting his equipment down, he took off his boots, placing them close to the fire, though not close enough that the leather would dry and crack. Grabbing a small towel from his pack, he dried his hair, regarding the merchant and his daughter with a broad, unassuming smile. "Ah, you have my thanks, good sirs. I wasn't sure what we would do if you had never arrived. Please, take this. I know it's not much, but hopefully it will help you in your travels." He fishes out ten steel coins from his pouch and hands it over to the party. He stood up, nodded, "I do not believe I got your name my good man," he took the wagoneer's hand in his, clapping him on the shoulder, "and while I would normally refuse repayment for so small a task, such a sum would aid my companions and I, and so I accept, both your generosity and hospitality." He looked to the young girl, "And when you and your father return home, while warming yourself by the hearth, surrounded by family, you can share with them the story of how you shared a fire with a Knight," he nodded to indicate Sir Gaardsen, "who served during the War of the Lance."

"Oh, is that all?" Gordon jokes under his breath. No harm meant to Sir Dietrich, of course. He seems a noble sort. Almost too noble, he jokes to himself.
"And a soldier who did the same, though that might not be as romantic," he pipes in, sitting by the fire.

"Ah, yes, forgive my lack of manners," the man says. "I am Thomas Norgino. And this is my daughter, Tessa. We are grateful, and should you ever find yourself seeking lumber in Vingaard, I will make sure you get an excellent price." As the party sits around the fire to warm their bones and take a breather, Thomas offers what is left over the stew he made, and Sir Karl regales them of a story of the first time he rode a silver dragon into battle against the Dragonarmies.

Torquato ClorindidisHP: 7/7 - AC: 13 - Perception: 13 - Insight: 11 - Inspiration: No Torquato raised an eyebrow at the older knight, skeptical: " You rode a dragon?" - he asked with a sigh, embittered by the thought of having to go back home. - " This reminds me of my future duties as a Windrider... I guess you could give me an advice or two about riding. At least on what not to do." - the elf concludes, looking at his limp leg.

"Well, I can't rightly compare it to riding a griffon, as I've never done so," Sir Karl states. "But I have ridden horseback, but this was completely different. For one thing, it adds a third dimension to things. And if I fall off my horse, I might hurt myself, but if I fall off a dragon, I'm likely going to go splat. But perhaps the biggest difference is that dragons are highly intelligent and willful beings. This one in particular was quite smarter than any of us here, with hundreds or perhaps even thousands of years worth of experience. Quite the tactical genius, really. Often I felt like my whole job was just to hold the dragonlance, and she did all the real work. It was a humbling experience. Rather terrifying, but exhilarating, as well."
