"I fought a dragon, once," Gordon muses. "Big white dragon came flying up, breathing ice into the open air. I thought, 'This is your chance, Gordon, stab that evil dragon right in the eye and be the hero of the battle.' Except it wasn't an evil dragon. I'd never seen one before, so I couldn't tell the difference between a white and a silver. Lucky for me, too. My glaive bounced against his nose, he picked me up by the scruff and told me to kindly shove off, since we were on the same side. Got teased about that until the end of the war," he laughs.

"A good way to know the difference, aside from the color of their scales, is the dragonfear," Sir Karl mentions. "All evil dragons can blanket the area around with them with magical fear. Even the bravest and most stalwart knight finds it difficult to be around them."

CONDITIONS: None."...is the dragonfear. All evil dragons can blanket the area around with them with magical fear." Dietrich laughed, "Ha! Not exactly true," he mentioned with a curious grin, looking at Thomas, "why, when old Gleam landed on the battlements to take Sir Gaardsen to flight, her sudden appearance made a certain young squire glad he was wearing his brown pants that day!" He nudged Tessa, "And if Gordon over there is brave enough to run up and bonk a dragon on the nose, he's brave enough to scare away any who come wandering down the riverbank." He tousled her red hair, "Sleep well tonight lass, we'll keep you safe as you do."{Out of Character Actions}OOC: I figure we'll set up some watches to carry us through dawn, Dietrich will volunteer to take the least favorable one, so likely mid-watch or morning watch, whichever the group prefers. I am thinking, 3 hour shifts, gives us 9 hours in camp, and 6 hours sleep to those who do take a shift at watch, unless we want to double up.

"Well, I might have one or two more stories..," Sir Karl admits.
The night passes without incident. They don't even see any travelers passing by throughout the night.
When morning arrives, Thomas prepares his wagon and hitches his horse back to it. "I thank you again, gentlemen. For both your help and your company," he says, picking up his daughter and placing her on the other side of the driver's seat. "I wish you well in your endeavors, although I would suggest you avoid Throtl if you can. I've heard stories of goblins migrating to that city."

"Goblins?" Gordon says. "Huh. Guess they can't let go of the war, eh?" he remarks to the party. "Though you could argue that neither can we."

Torquato ClorindidisHP: 7/7 - AC: 13 - Perception: 13 - Insight: 11 - Inspiration: No Once the merchant is on his way, Torquato approaches the older knight: " Sir Karl, I avoided going into detail in front of those two, but I couldn't help noticing you seemed... Uneasy about what that man was saying about the absence of patrols. And now the rumors about goblin establishing themselves in Throtl... What's going on here?"

"I noticed the same, Sir Karl. What do you fear we are walking into?", asks Abelaard as he cleans his mess kit and stows it away.

"I am not certain," Sir Karl admits. "I knew about Throtl being overrun with goblins. But...the idea that the commandant of Throtl Outpost is neglecting his duty is disquieting to hear. Especially with the political upheaval in the country. If anything, patrols should be doubled or even tripled--not laxed. But I suppose the only way to learn what is happening here is to continue toward Throtl Outpost and see for ourselves. Perhaps there is a good reason for this, although I am unable to think of one at the moment."

The party lapses into silence, so Sir Karl shrugs and gestures for them to move on. The party continues their trek eastward, toward Throtl Outpost. After about six hours of walking, they spot a cloud of smoke rising behind the next hill and hear the clash of metal on metal. Concerned, Gaardsen urges them forward at a quicker pace. As they approach the crest, they see that the road forks, and a caravan train has been ambushed by a group of draconians. There is a Bozak, a Kapak, and six Baaz. Drawing his sword, Sir Karl states, "Take care of the Baaz. I'll handle the rest of them." He then begins to limp forward. The Bozak, which is quite large for even its kind, notices the party's approach. Looking up at them, he studies the party for a second and tucks a large, dark book into a sack. With a snarl he calls out something in draconic. Two of the Baaz step forward, drawing long swords. ============ It is now late afternoon. (Key: Each square is about 5' in size. "Hey, what's that you found" he quietly days to himself.

Gordon grins, eager to kick some tail--quite literally, in this case. He runs as far as he can with his stubby Dwarf legs, and hurls a Hand Axe at Bozak number 1--the one with the shifty eyes. (Number 2 has shady eyes. There's a difference). He then whips out his maul, ready to strike if one of the scaly curs gets too close.

CONDITIONS: None.It was difficult for Dietrich to seperate his own rank and status from his years serving as Gaardsen's ward, then squire, so even know as the older man issued his commands, a jolt of anxiety ran through Dietrich's frame. And, were he being honest with himself, some guilt, for the limp so obviously on display as he walked into battle. Gordon surged ahead, a smile on his dwarven lips as he lifted an axe from his belt, flinging it with deadly accuracy, determined to defend his new found companions to the best of his ability, he nodded towards Gaardsen, "So it shall be done!" From his back scabbard, he swung a heavy, thick bladed great sword, hefting the beast in two hands, he moved forward keeping pace with Gordon, about a breadth ahead of him, so if the Baaz charged, he could buy his ally time to draw a weapon. " You will find us no easy prey, lay off these good folk and face us!" He stood his ground beside Gordon, his weight on his back leg, ready to surge forward and swing the unadorned greatsword in a vicious arc should his opponents advance. {Out of Character Actions}OOC: Move action to keep about 5 ft ahead of Gordon, and I will use my Standard Action to ready an attack to swing at the 1st enemy who enters into my melee range. All of the draconians save two turn and run into the forest, dropping to all fours and using their wings to give them a boost of speed. Sir Karl chases after them, leaving the remainders to the party. The two that remain are the baaz on the road, who move toward the party. One of the baaz gets closer, his sword at the ready. Gordon hurls his hand axe, which whips end over end before slicing into the baaz's wing, causing him to cry out in pain and annoyance. Dietrich steps forward, his sword at the ready, but waits and bides his time for now. Robin moves forward to target the bozak, but he's already disappeared into the woods. So he looses an arrow from his sithak at the second baaz, which strikes the draconian in the shoulder. Meanwhile, Rof fires his crossbow at the nearer of the two baaz, and the bolt goes wide and misses.. He's looking pretty rough now, and when Torquato casts his dark spell, strange bells are heard and the draconian cries out in pain and panic. Abelaard shouts out a saucy insult, which causes the baaz to flinch slightly. The second baaz, and the only draconian remaining now, moves forward, joining its comrade's side. ============ InitiativeKapak: 17 Baaz 01: 17 Gordon: 17 Bozak: 16 Dietrich: 14 Baaz 04: 13 Robin: 12 Baaz 05: 6 Gaardsen: 6 Baaz 06: 4 Baaz 03: 4 Rof: 4 Torquato: 4 Abelaard: 4 Baaz 02: 1 Round 01!Kapak moves 30 feet north.
