CH. 10 - Chasing the Lleiset

ooc: I'm guessing close but no so close that we cannot maneuver if we need to turn or anything.

(OOC:  Like how close are we talking here?  Ten feet?  A hundred feet?)

If the ships are close the dragons can fight them together. We planned to pull the young dragons away from the main ship. I think the cargo ships should be about 100 feet away from the blue moon while all the three ships should be at least something like 500 feet from the main ship.

The four ships get into formation; the Lleiset in the lead, then 500 feet behind comes the Blue Moon, with the Salty Dwarf and Blue Diamond flanking another hundred feet out.  The four ships sail southward, and after about an hour, Bayla calls out from the crow's nest.  "We have incoming!  Western horizon, coming from the island!"

Anyone looking out in that direction would spot four black specks in the sky, very slowly getting larger.

"Alright, ranged attacks guys!" Kalana calls out to her crew. "If we can get one to board the ship, I'll take the lead while the rest of you shoot form a distance."

Brax tries to mimic what Kalana does and directs his ranged attackers to get ready. "Alright, now arm up crossbows and ready to fire when they are in range."

[Daos]

The crew starts getting ready, with some preparing to ready the ship for sudden maneuvers and others loading up crossbows and moving to the railing on the ship.  As the black specks get closer, the party gets a better idea of their real size.  One of the dragons is at least 40 feet long (not including its tail).  The other three are about half that size, around 20 feet long (again, not including the tail).

The larger dragon makes for the Lleiset, but the three smaller ones break formation and veer toward the party's fleet.  One dragon for each ship.  At their current speed, they'll arrive in only a few minutes, so any last preparations should be made now.

"Bayla, be prepared with whatever spells you have that can damage a dragon," Kalana says.

Brax having nobody with magic on his ship merely waits for something to happen. "Wish we had a harpoon er somethin'." he states while waiting in the calm before the storm.

[Daos]

"I've never fought a dragon before," Bayla points out.  "Not sure what hurts them or not."

[Bishgada]

"Man your positions! Be brave! Don't gather up! Find covered locations. We want the dragon to have hard time to aim his attacks and avoid mass injury! If the dragons comes to melee range, I'll try to get it's attention while you all keep distance and continue shooting. Aim for his eyes, mouth and throat. Anything that seems unprotected by its hide." Senllip commands and sets the people formations.
"Use the crossbows smartly! If you see bolts on their way, save your ammo for the next wave of shooting. Think of the valor! Fame! Saving the innocents! And the treasures dragons hoard! Whatever help you focus and increase your moral in battle!" Senllip makes sure the minimum personnel are ready to operate the ship in battle while the rest found covered positions, distant enough from each other. He then draws his sword, shoot a glance at the other ships, trying to locate Brax and Kalana, and readies himself for battle.

"I'm honestly not sure what will work against them either. Just try your best," Kalana says. "Try not to group together, and be careful of the breath weapon. Black dragons mean acid, so keep on guard."

Brax calls out a warning "Careful lads, them black dragons I heard can spit something nasty, acid er somethin like that."

After another couple of minutes, the dragons get closer, and are now within long range of the light crossbows (about 500 feet).
