It's a bit complex, but to keep things simple: I'm almost finished with my degree in psychology and I've completed my first year in med school
What are you going to study in college instead?

I'm going to Major in Data Science; I'm hoping to go into a Data Analytics career.

I hear that med school is brutal, Matt! I can kind of understand why you are having a hard time with it, but the fact that you are able to work while going to med school is kind of crazy. I know that in the US, you don't have the time to do a part time job because all of your time is focused on school.

As I said it's a long story, but basically I actually already attended med school a few years ago, before dropping it for personal reasons. Now that I'm back I had some of the exams validated so I don't have to take them again, so this first year was actually a lot more light on me (and I still struggled lol). But yeah next year forward things will become much worse.. I already talked about it with my boss and, from September forward I'll only have a couple of shifts each week, probably during the weekend too. So that should be more manageable.

The last couple of days, the AQI shot up to 170-190, but thankfully it's finally dropped back down to the late teens today. So at least the whole neighborhood doesn't smell like smoke now.
Anyone else remember when the entire continent catching fire was incredibly rare, and not a 'every summer' type of event.

Yeah, I don't remember wildfires being as common as they are now.

I should note; I've officially moved in to college now! My first day of classes was yesterday.

Congratulations. Are you actually living on campus now? Or do you commute from home?

Yes, I’m living on campus, in a little dorm house which, for legal reasons, is zoned as a frat house. I’m getting along well with all my housemates, but classes are a little difficult so far.

Yeah, I ran into the same problem when I started attending classes at community college. The difficulty spike was way higher than I had anticipated.

Unfortunately, I can't speak about college experiences as I did mine online from home 12 years ago when I had a full time job and young kids. So I did not have the traditional experiences. Some classes were hard but for the most part I somehow managed to get almost all A's for an associates in Information Technology. Kinda surprised myself since I was a C average in HS. Hardest subjects for me in college were English/Lit, Visual Basic (Coding) & ethics.

I guess I just enjoyed the challenges that college gave me, both when I started community college after I graduated high school, and when I started university just a few years back when I was a full fledged adult. I graduated the University of Washington with a 3.6GPA while I was working full time. I think I had a B average at OCCC before I moved to Washington. Classes are harder, and you have to put more time into them, but if you think it is worthwhile, then you'll most likely succeed.

Yeah, my problem is I waited 9 years before deciding to go to college. After my HS experiences I didn't want to rush off to more school. I didn't know what I wanted to do and held myself back. It's one of my regrets in life.

GreyWolf, if you really want to go back to school, it is never too late. I had a few 70 year olds in my classes. Plus, I'm not young myself. Most students thought I was their age though. 😁
