This runs contrary to my personal experience. There were periods of my life where I lived without access to refrigeration (the first apartment I ever rented came unfurnished, and as a broke teenager I couldn't afford major appliances), and on many occasions I had plain-old sliced cheddar or Swiss sit around for two or three days while remaining perfectly edible (it does get really oily, though). I've taken cheese (again, prepacked slices from the grocery store) on backpacking trips in warm climates and had it last for similar durations, too. I always tried to err on the safe side, and only brought small quantities that I could eat through relatively quickly, so for all I know it might last even longer. I'm sure it varies significantly by type of cheese and form-factor...I've heard a wheel of hard cheese can keep a very long time outside of refrigeration, but I haven't tried it out myself. (the folks on this backpacking forum report similar findings) Having said that, if Daos maintains that bacteria and fungi are a bit more aggressive on Amtar, then of course I'm in no position to argue.

Question, how was this cheese stored? Was it sealed in a plastic baggie?
I've no personal experience in the matter. I was going by what I Googled, which stated that cheese lasts about 2 hours if not chilled or sealed.

The sealing would be the ideal situation do our intrepid adventures! A wax covered wheel of cheddar sounds great!

Yeah, now that you mention it...always kept it sealed in plastic. That would help a ton at keeping foreign pathogens at bay, and prove far superior to whatever methods of protecting food are available to the citizens of Amtar, I'm sure. Although the folks on the backpacking forum I linked to mentioned using wax as a sealant, or even just wrapping the cheese in paper...
Another thing I just thought about -- would pasteurization have been invented/become widespread in Tardiff by this point in time? I imagine that would make a lot of difference, as well. All of the cheese I've ever consumed was made from pasteurized milk...raw cheese exists in the US, but it can be hard to find.

Oh, wax paper. I hadn't thought of that. Okay, that might keep the cheese good for a couple of days, instead of hours then.
Good question. In the real world, pasteurization was invented in the 19th century. The technology level of Tardiff is roughly the same as the 14th/15th centuries, so I'd rule that it has not been discovered yet, no.

Wouldn't the north gate put us on the wrong side of the river, or am I looking at the map wrong (again)?
EDIT: Also, our map of Buho shows both the north and east gates connecting roads running east, but not west...presumably both connect to 'highways' at some point that would head westward, in the direction of the capital?
That's helpful to know! So whatever kind of firearms the dwarves have recently developed are something akin to single-shot flintlock pistols, then? (Not that our characters would know anything about that, or are likely to ever find out...I'm just curious.)

Are we done strategizing, then? Is it time for us to make our exit?

The maps aren't perfect. This is the problem with stealing maps from other sources. (For instance, note how the river looks to be a mile wide or so on the map for the Wildwolfe Hills, but nowhere near that wide in the Buho map.)
Basically, though, the party can head through the north gate without crossing the bridge first.
Anyway, on to shopping! I'd rather just gloss over that here, in the OOC thread. So if anyone wants to buy or sell anything, just let me know and I'll tell you if it's available and how much it costs.

If you're glossing over shopping that puts me in a tight corner - I don't want to be the one holding everyone up. Do you want to just establish what happens with Katya's side-quests in the OOC? Specifically, can the Kohen be persuaded to part with a few vials of holy water? and does she have any difficulty getting in to see Sennah? and is the woman obviously ill?

Katya isn't going to make it to the temple right away. There is someone waiting for you all outside, that wants to speak with you first.

Theron's Shopping List 3 days' rations | 46 sp | Caltrops (10) | 3 gp | Belt pouch (small) | 7 sp | Signal whistle | 8 sp |
TOTAL 9 gp 1 sp
Looks like I was getting a little ambitious with the other stuff I was asking you about, Daos...those four on the list cost practically all of Theron's money! Let's hope this Bloody Spear tribe is loaded...
EDIT: Maybe now would be a good time to ask for clarification about the Food/Water/Bath/Sleep stuff on the status page...I'm not sure I fully understand it.
The humans have a line that looks like this: Food 1/2, Drink 3/7, Sleep 0/8, Bath 0 Theron, Garnet, and Finbul have one looking more like this: Food 1/1, Drink 2/5, Sleep 0/8, Bath 0
Is having a "full" fraction (2/2, or 7/7) equivalent to that need being completely satisfied, and 0/x being "running on empty"? Or is it the other way around, with the numerator of the fraction representing current need or lack? In other words, do the numbers deplete and count down over time, or do they incrementally count upward and reset to zero when the need is satisfied?
Also, Jherek the half-elf needs less water than Lillian the elf? Is that intentional?

It looks like Jherek is planning to cook.
Ladona is going to get two weeks worth of rations, just to be on the safe side. Waterskin/Wineskin because water is important. She is also going to get a winter blanket because it is cold, or at least getting cold.
