"So, humans...they're the worst, right?" Theron says, passing the time with an attempt at humor. "No offense to present company," he quickly adds, looking at Jherek. "And don't even get me started on halflings."

Bloody Spears Lair 1F (Ladonna, Ryan, Katya, Finbul, Ingot) Once everyone is on the platform, Ingot begins lowering it again. The goblins make no attack this round, but sound like they are moving further away--possibly to warn someone or get reinforcements.
The remarkable conveyance slowly lowers the intrepid band into the darkness of the shaft. The air is becoming stale and the temperature grows cooler. After descending a few feet, the platform begins to dangle in open air; a descent of around 15 more feet brings them level with a stone floor in an octagonal chamber, about 30 feet across, with a passage heading eastward. The peculiar grooves are again carved into the passage floor. The others are waiting here.
Ingot locks the brake into place. "There seems to be...another floor...beneath this one," he comments.
Bloody Spears Lair 2F (Theron, Jherek, Lillian, Garnet) Not wanting to be left out, Lillian also searches the room for traps and finds nothing and then tries to listen down the hall, but hears only silence.
The platform returns, this time with Ladonna, Ryan, Katya and Finbul riding upon it. The light of Ryan's stone floods the chamber, ruining any infravision.

Katya joins the others.
"Exploring this floor first?" It's half question, half stating the obvious. "I guess technically this is under ground. The goblins from upstairs got up and ran off while we were descending, so if they've got a way to summon that platform or another way to get down here we may know soon."

"I wonder if there is another way out of here," Ladonna says. "If there was, we could destroy this thing before the goblins come back with possible reinforcements. If there isn't another way out of here, then we could possibly be trapped on either side by goblins."

Theron spends some time contemplating Katya's and Ladonna's musings.

"That mechanized platform we rode down on seemed complicated...it was probably labor-intensive to build," Theron contributes. "I imagine if there is another one of those connecting this floor to the one above, they wouldn't have put it close by -- that seems too wasteful of their resources, especially when they're focused on attacking Bubo. You all noticed how newly-built that platform looked, right? So I'm willing to bet that if there is another way to travel between the levels of this cavern, it's far enough away that it shouldn't matter."
Theron leads the way down the eastern corridor without looking back to see if the others are following. After advancing fifty feet, he'll stop and listen again for any clues about what lies ahead.

Ryan offers. "We should head down, remember, the head of the snake is our goal."

"They could always try climbing down the ropes, the way Wiggledigit suggested earlier," Finbul adds. "If they are able...to summon back the army...before we finish our mission,...we likely will not...leave here alive," Ingot points out. Theron scouts ahead, moving just beyond the range of Ryan's light stone. He still can hear nothing. There is a branching passage just before him, moving northeast. It looks like further down is another tunnel that branches to the south. His instincts tell him they are probably around 15' below the surface right now. ========= Theron attempts to determine their approximate depth underground (1d4): 1, pass. After scouting ahead a bit, Theron notices he's moved out of range of the stone's circle of light, and that the light isn't catching up to him. He decides to head back to the group.
"Are you guys still talking about sabotaging the platform?" he asks, a note of incredulity in his voice. "There's fifteen feet of rock above us, and that's the only way we know of to get back to the surface. It's unquestionably preferable to face the possibility of goblins following us down, rather than deal with the certainty of being trapped down here."
Theron continues, "It looks like there's a fork in the tunnel up ahead. If we're going to explore this level looking for the Hooded One, we may have a lot of ground to cover...so we'd best get to it. You guys coming?"

"All right, let's get moving," Ladonna says. Though, she is certainly going to stay somewhere in the middle of the group so that she is relatively safe.

The party forms the same marching order as before*, with Ingot and Jherek in the lead and Katya taking up the rear. They approach the first branch, just as Theron described, and can see a second branch further down.
"Shall we continue...forward? Or try...one of the...branches?" asks Ingot.

"I figure we do this a level at a time, one branch at a time. I think we may need to switch up the way we travel for a bit too...Maybe Mouse and me can Scout a bit ahead of the group? I look high, he looks low and we make sure the path is safe for the rest of you. I know some of us are still smarting off of that fall earlier." His ears burn red for a moment. He smiles sheepishly. He takes a moment to step back through the group to give Kat a once over...as he moves towards her he stops beside Ryan. Jherek's intention unclear as his mouth screws up akwardly at first. "I am in your debt acolyte. Your magic saved me earlier...and Am I correct in guessing you are the reason Katya is up and about? Thank you. Thank you." Jherek offers his hand to give a firm shake. That done he looks to his betrothed. He seems flabbergasted at her ability to move about. Maybe they were all chosen for something after all. "How...uh...how does...you look well. It's good to see you strong enough to wield steel." "So, humans...they're the worst, right?" Theron says, passing the time with an attempt at humor. "No offense to present company," he quickly adds, looking at Jherek. "And don't even get me started on halflings." "I'm the son of a half-elf's son, my family has been mixing blood sense before the humans had a kingdom. I'm as much a human as I am a bear. So, no offense taken Mouse. But I say, You gotta give humans a fair shake, some maybe real louse droppings, but most seem a right sort. 'Sides, some of them can be right proper easy on the eyes with big glorious...hearts big glorious hearts!" He winks at his friend, and seems to get lost in thought for a moment. "Makes you wonder how humans were able to shake the dwarves and elves off doesn't it? I mean we can all see in the dark and they say that elves and what not are the best wizards and warriors right? Dwarves work steel the best and what do humans get? Drive? The urge to spread like hares in spring? I don't get it."

"We have no idea where the hooded one is," Ladonna says. "So maybe we should explore the branch?" "Yes, I'm in full agreement with Miss Marche," Theron says. "Our target could be anywhere in these mines, so the only sensible course is to investigate them thoroughly and meticulously until he pops up." "Garnet," he says as he suddenly turns to the other gnome in the party. "You saw the Hooded One in that vision, and somehow you knew he was underground. Are there any details you can remember from what you saw that might help us track him down, or at least narrow down where to look?" "Maybe Mouse and me can Scout a bit ahead of the group? I look high, he looks low and we make sure the path is safe for the rest of you." Theron nods. "Excellent suggestion, Jherek. I've been keeping an ear out since we arrived on this floor, and I haven't heard the slightest peep echoing down these tunnels so far. Taking care not to blunder into another one of those booby traps ought to be our chief concern, now." He dutifully walks ahead and joins Jherek at the front of the group. "But I say, You gotta give humans a fair shake, some maybe real louse droppings, but most seem a right sort." "I was speaking in jest...well, mostly," Theron tells his friend in a low voice. "I think I am inclined to agree with you, to be honest -- while many of them can be a pain sometimes, even the most unlikely among them seem to have their moments." He pauses, seemingly lost in thought for a while before going on. "As you pointed out, Acolyte McIntyre has really come through for us on this adventure...and Ladonna seems to have a good head atop her shoulders as well. And...well, I could praise some of Katya's finer qualities, too, but that hardly seems necessary -- you are more than adequately familiar with them, I am sure." "Traps!" Theron suddenly exclaims, as though emerging from a reverie. "We're supposed to be on the lookout for traps! Our conversations are enjoyable as ever, Jherek, but perhaps we should continue this one another time...I'd nearly allowed myself to get distracted from the task at hand."
