Jaeron repeats only the part he knows from staying topside on the other ship "Captain sir, all I know is I cast a light spell into the cargo hold and there was a mold filling the hold that appeared to not like my spell daylight or fire likely would destroy whatever that mold is that appears to have for lack of a better term eaten the goodly folk of that ship."

"With the way that the fungus seemed to shy away from light, it might be possible that whatever those people turned into might be light sensitive as well," Kalana explains. "But that is nothing more than a hunch of mine at this point. I thought killing the woman was an act of mercy."

Julak frowns deeply at their report. Toven looks concerned, turning his gaze to the captain. "Sir, that sounds exactly like..."
Julak holds up a hand to silence him. "Yes, I know. Destroy the ship," he orders the crew. Fire a barrel of oil from the catapult, then ignite the ship. Burn it to the ground." He looks to the party. "If you took anything off that ship, I don't care if it's gold or jewels, throw it overboard immediately. I assure you, it isn't worth it."
The crew does as they are told, loading an entire barrel of oil onto the catapult, then firing it onto the deck of the fishing boat. On impact, it bursts and splashes oil everywhere. A crew member then lights a few arrows and fires them at the ship, lighting it ablaze easily.
"Resume course for Hashadeth," Julak orders. "I'll be in my quarters." He sullenly walks away.

"You two know something about this," Mathias prompts Toven after Julak leaves. "Tell me. What the blazes did we just see down there?!"

Jaeron after seeing the crew and captains reaction lets out a sigh of relief that he stayed topside on the other ship. he looks to Mathias & Kalana "I hope you two didn't take anything from below decks on that ship. But I am surely glad i stayed up top. The reaction we just got was dire indeed.I think the captain and crew have seen this before."

"I didn't take anything," Kalana assures everyone. She watches Julak sulk off, then looks to Toven curiously. "What did we just encounter?" she asks. "And should Mathias and I be worried? We were the only ones to go below deck."

"Yes..," Toven says, a far away look in his eye. "We've encountered such things before. But that...was a long time ago." He shakes his head, then looks to the party. "You all should be fine. But if you're worried, you can check in with Setra."

Jaeron "Would you mind telling us the tale even if it was a long time ago?" the gnome asks Toven.

"It's not something any of us like to talk about," Toven says. "Five years ago, the captain, Setra, Divex and myself lived in a small farming village called Verinatt. It was a peaceful life...almost idyllic, one might say. Until it was attacked by creatures we have never seen before. Fungus creatures came on strange ships one night, and at once started taking villagers. At first, we thought it was some kind of slaver raid, as the creatures had no interest in gold or supplies, only people. Later, we would learn it was far worse than that. Anyway, the entire village was decimated. The captain managed to lead the four of us to a fishing boat and break past the creatures. We were among the handful of those who escaped, as the creatures pursued in their own ships and easily overtook those who had likewise fled in ships. We would have been taken, too, had the Blue Lightning not shown up when they did."
Toven sighs deeply and shakes his head. "Our families, our friends...all taken. We had nothing else but a desire to find them, so we joined the Blue Lightning. The captain got this ship, and we've been sailing the seas since then, hoping to find our people. In the five years since, we've run into the creatures a couple of times. They are incredibly elusive, but we've been lucky. When we would board their ships, we would find the horrible experiments they performed...we would rescue those who had not yet been tainted, but for those who had already undergone the transformation...it was too late. There was nothing left to save."
He looks out at the burning fishing ship as they pass it by. "I'm afraid the crew of that ship were taken by them, as well. Probably during the night. The creatures seem to hate the sun. We've never found their ships in the light of day."

Jaeron having heard the retelling of the tale looks horrified. "That is terrible. For what it is worth I am sorry that you had to endure that. Thank you for telling the tale."

"I didn't know the four of you lived in the same village," Kalana says thoughtfully. After hearing the tale though, she grabs the flask from her waist and takes a swig from it before she offers it to Toven. "And the fact that the four of you went through something like that..." she adds, but she trails off as she shakes her head sadly. ~Everyone is on this ship for their own reasons,~ she thinks to herself.

Mathias seems totally stunned into silence for a time, simply staring out into space with a look of horror upon his face. "All-out war among the creatures of the deep, and now mushroom monsters? What is this world coming to?" he mutters to himself, cradling his forehead with a rough, calloused hand.

Jaeron agrees with Mathias "Indeed what is the world coming to. They're almost like mold or moss zombies. Undead is tragic enough. This is just crazy. I wonder what created these things to begin with some wizard experiment gone awry?"

"Hmm... This is a tragedy indeed." Senllip says after hearing Toven's tale. With the mood change he decides to keep to himself the fact the he liked the color of the fungi and had thoughts about bringing samples of it for testing. He then goes near Kalana and says whispering, "I get it that you slashed the creature, right? You might want to sanitize your blades... Maybe you should go to Sentra. Better safe than sorry." He winks at her.

Kalana looks down at Senllip, and raises an eyebrow at his winking. "You aren't wrong," she admits. "Is there anything else you wish us to do before I go to visit Setra?" she asks Toven.
