Here's my first crack at a 5e charsheet. It's entirely possible -- likely, even -- that I've screwed up or forgotten something. Will PM Daos with details on character concept/history (just a brief sketch, so far). You sort of jumped ahead significantly there. So I'll have to get back to you once everyone else has caught up. I'm still waiting on GravityEmblem and Nuke to declare a race.

Haha okay, no worries. I happened to have put some forethought into what kind of character I wanted to play, and it turns out character creation is pretty darned easy in this edition. I already have a good idea about the character I'd like to play in Tronca, too...what can I say, making characters is one of my favorite parts of tabletop roleplaying

I was going to say it in my stat sheet post, but I haven't posted it yet, nor do I have access to it. (Don't worry, it saved.) Anyway, I'm being a halfling.

Okay. So looking like a mostly if not entirely demi-human group so far (depending on what Nuke chooses). So I'll make the NPC human, as they are the most populous race in the Realms, after all. Makes sense for the group to have at least one. So what we have is: Gravity's Character12, 10, 16, 12, 13, 15 Halfling Horizon's Character15, 12, 15, 10, 13, 13 Tiefling Nuke's Character7, 10, 12, 11, 8, 8 NotARobot's Character11, 11, 15, 10, 14, 11 Dragonborn (red) NPC15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 Human Next up are classes. There are 12 of those. Consequently, I don't want to go into massive detail on all of them. But if anyone has any questions about them, they can ask and I'll elaborate. For now, I'll just give the basics. For the classes found in 2E, all of them still exist in 5E and they are largely the same. I mean, there are some minor differences but nothing radical. Druids can shapechange and use nature magic, Bards play music and know a little magic, Fighters are masters of weapons, and so forth. The new classes not found in 2E are Barbarian, Monk, Sorcerer and Warlock. And they aren't really 'new' exactly. Barbarians and Monks were in 1E, originally. Warlock is thematically similar to the Witch kit in 2E (although mechanically speaking, not so much). Sorcerers were born in 3E, and are basically like mages who use CHA instead of INT to cast. Class

We might as well, while we're at it, determine our ability score order. The ability scores are pretty much the same from 2E. Strength affects attack and damage rolls (for melee) and the ability to lift, push, carry and so forth. Dexterity affects attack and damage rolls (for ranged), armor class and initiative. Constitution affects your HP. Intelligence and Wisdom affect your spellcasting abilities, and certain skill checks. Charisma also affects spellcasting for certain classes and helps with relating to NPCs (persuasion, intimidation, deception, etc.). Make sure you remember to include your racial bonuses. NotARobot has already done all of this, so he needn't worry about it unless he's changed his mind on his build.

I almost hate to double up on races, but I too am thinking tiefling, a warlock class. Given the wonderfully average stat rolls, the mutual focus on CHA in intriguing.

So here is where your expertise in the system and how it works is going to come in handy, GravityEmblem. I need advice on what class to choose for the NPC. Originally, I was leaning toward Cleric, so the party has a healer. But now looking at the party make-up, we have four back-row characters--three of which are casters. So maybe a tank is more important? I know 5E has some self-healing mechanics, like the short rest, so maybe a healer isn't as vital? Or can a cleric serve as both tank and healer with only d8 hit die and medium armor? What do you think?

I'm definitely not the resident 5e expert, but I feel like it's worth pointing out that clerics of the Life domain are proficient with heavy armor.

Plus, War clerics are pretty potent combat-wise. Seriously, they're proficient in Heavy Armor AND Martial Weapons.

Alright. I'll go with Human Cleric then. But they will be less of a front-line than it is a front... dot. So we'll have to be careful and use good strategy when fighting large groups. Gravity's CharacterHalfling (Lightfoot) Bard 1 STR 10 DEX 18 CON 12 INT 13 WIS 12 CHA 16 Horizon's CharacterFemale Tiefling Rogue 1 STR 13 DEX 15 CON 13 INT 13 WIS 10 CHA 17 Nuke's CharacterTiefling Warlock 1 7, 10, 12, 11, 8, 8 Verthisathurgiesh Djandaar ("Jan") (NotARobot) Male Dragonborn (Red) Sorcerer 1 STR 16 DEX 11 CON 11 INT 11 WIS 10 CHA 16 NPCHuman Cleric 1 STR 15 DEX 14 CON 13 INT 9 WIS 14 CHA 11 Next up are Backgrounds. Those of you have not yet chosen one, here is a complete list. Once you choose one, you need to also pick two personality traits, an ideal (something you strongly believe in), a bond (a connection to a person or people, place or thing), and a flaw. If you can't think of any, you can roll for them, for they are numbered. You can also make up your own, if none of the choices fit what you're going for. You also will want to pick a name, sex, height/weight, alignment, age and languages. Height and Weight can be determined or rolled randomly. For brevity's sake, I'll only include the races that are in the party. The dice roll given in the Height Modifier column determines the character’s extra height (in inches) beyond the base height. That same number multiplied by the dice roll or quantity given in the Weight Modifier column determines the character’s extra weight (in pounds) beyond the base weight. Race
| Base Height
| Height Modifier
| Base Weight
| Weight Modifier
| Human | 4'8" | +2d10 | 110 lbs
| x(2d4) lbs
| Halfling | 2'7" | +2d4 | 35 lbs
| x1 lb
| Dragonborn | 5'6" | +2d8 | 175 lbs
| x(2d6) lbs
| Tiefling | 4'9" | +2d8 | 110 lbs
| x(2d4) lbs
|
Languages are determined by your race and possibly your class and background. Halflings know Common and Halfling. Humans known Common and one extra of their choice. Dragonborn know Common and Draconic. Tieflings know Common and Infernal.
