"Just because he is the only candidate left, doesn't mean he is the best one," Ladonna points out. She ignores her mother completely as she focuses on her sister. "Listen, I just want to make sure that my dear sister is well taken care of once she enters into the married life. If I found someone else for you to marry that is better than Relken, would you reconsider it?" she asks.

Ladonna Marche (Buho Inn, Common Room) Felicia looks confused, and perhaps a little concerned, that her sister has apparently forgotten how marriage works. "Why are you asking me? It's not up to me; you know that, sister."
"It's not up to Felicia, and it's not up to you," Amanda agrees. "And you couldn't even hold on to your own suitor, you expect me to believe you can find someone better than a knight? Fine, go ahead and try. Maybe it will keep you busy while your father and I plan your sister's wedding."
Their conversation is interrupted when at another table, there's a ruckus. Liala, sitting with Marcus and Lenk, jumps to her feet, tears streaming down her face. "How could you?!" she yells, drawing attention from all around her. She then grabs her drink and tosses the liquid into Marcus' face before running out the door.
"Damn elves...so emotional," Marcus complains as he wipes foam from his face.
Katya, Theron, and Lillian (Buho Inn, Common Room) "I'm not surprised you haven't heard of Lohman's Blades," Silas says. "They have mostly operated out of the west, around Dragonwine County, but they have recently...branched out. They did used to be a mercenary group, and a respectable one at that. But now they are little more than well armed bandits with a veneer of civility. They 'patrol' the roads and then demand caravans hand over a portion of their goods and profits out of payment. They waltz into towns and take what they want, acting as if they are doing everyone a favor."
As Theron eavesdrops and Lillian just stands there in silence as Theron just stopped talking to her all of the sudden, they are all interrupted when at another table, there's a ruckus.

When the ruckus erupts between Marcus and Lialla, Theron seems momentarily indecisive as his attention is divided between the new source of stimuli and the conversation between Katya and Silas. After a few seconds he seems to make up his mind, and strides over to Marcus and Lenk. "What was that all about?" he asks.

Katya's eyes are drawn to the sudden commotion, same as everyone else. She mutters "heaven save us from the men of Buho" under her breath, just loud enough for her companions to hear.
Then she continues as if nothing had happened; "Did I hear you correctly? They raid towns?"

"I'm sorry," Ladonna says to her mother in amusement. "You seem to forget that your eldest daughter is well liked in Buho, especially since she has helped save the town twice now," she points out. She appears to have more to say but the commotion at the other table catches her attention. Her eyes widen upon seeing Lialla throw her drink in Marcus' face. "And this is where I take my leave," she adds to her family before she leaves the table. It wasn't as if she was really welcomed there anyway in her opinion. Her first instinct is to approach Marcus, but instead she decides to follow after Lialla. "Lialla! Wait!" she calls after the elf.

Ladonna Marche (Outside the Buho Inn) Ladonna hurries out of the inn just in time to see Liala go around the corner of the building and head into the small orchard there. Following, Ladonna finds her standing alone among the trees, sobbing quietly and wiping at her eyes with her sleeve. When Ladonna approaches, she shakes her head and shrugs. "I'm such an idiot. I really thought I could have a normal life."
Theronymous P. Wiggledigit (Buho Inn, Common Room) "Just a spurned elf, making a big scene," Lenk says with amusement.
"The whole point of doing it here was so she wouldn't make a scene in front of everyone," Marcus grumbles, wiping off his face. "And stay out of this, gnome. It's none of your business."
Katya (Buho Inn, Common Room) "Less raiding, and more of a protection racket," Silas replies. "You hand over whatever food, supplies and valuables you have to them, or 'bad things' happen. Word is there was a village in Greywood County...Stawford, I think it was called, that was actually occupied for a time. They refused to comply with the Blades, so the Blades straight up sieged and occupied the village. Eventually, the count of Greywood managed to muster up his forces to drive them out, but by that point, they had picked the place clean."
Lillian (Buho Inn, Common Room) Theron heads off to the table where Marcus and Lenk are sitting to speak to them, leaving Lillian on her own.

"Incredible" Katya remarks,
"Greywood is clear on the other side of Tardiff though, isn't it? They've stretched far if they're harassing your caravans way out here."

"Liala?" Ladonna asks softly as she cautiously approaches the elf. "Normal life? Were you and Marcus a thing?" she asks.

"The whole point of doing it here was so she wouldn't make a scene in front of everyone," Marcus grumbles, wiping off his face. "And stay out of this, gnome. It's none of your business." Theron takes a sip from his mug, sets it down upon a nearby table (not the one Marcus and Lenk are seated at), and raises his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Of course, sir. I beg your pardon. I was just-" He takes a step forward mid-sentence and pretends to stumble, saving himself from falling at the last second by pushing off against Marcus's seated form. "Oh dear. Please forgive me, Master Locke...seems someone spilled a bit of ale on the floor right there, and I nearly took a dreadful tumble. I'll just go inform our gracious innkeeper of the situation before someone hurts themselves." Theron hastily retrieves his mug, goes back over to where Lillian is still standing, and says "Shall we go say hello to Miss Katya over there?" “Certainly,” Lillian says, feeling very awkward. Ironically, she felt that talking to strangers was much easier than talking to friends.

Ladonna Marche (Outside the Buho Inn) "So I thought," Liala replies. "But I guess I was nothing more than a diversion to him. Just like the others. They will never see me as anything than an elf, will they? With all the effort I've put into fitting in, I still can't ever be seen as a normal person. I should just...cut these damn ear points off. Hiding them never seems to help..."
Theron and Lillian (Buho Inn, Common Room) "Watch yourself, gnome," Marcus warns. "And remember, we're keeping an eye on you during this festival. No bracelets are going to go missing this time, I promise you that." He gets up to grab a rag and dry himself off.
Theron makes a Pick Pockets check (1d100): 30, pass. He steals 2 silver pieces from Marcus.
Katya (Buho Inn, Common Room) Silas nods. "Yes, they've been moving steady east since they underwent new management, transitioning from mercenary group to outright banditry. And now they say the Equalists have teamed up with them, making them both even more dangerous than before."

"What makes people think they're working together?" Katya inquires.

"I don't think what he did has anything to do with you being an elf. He would have done that to anyone because he is an awful person," Ladonna says.

Ladonna Marche (Outside the Buho Inn) "Awful or not, it doesn't matter anyway," Liala says sadly. "He was right about one thing. His parents would have never agreed to us getting married. No humans will ever agree to that. That's why I need to grow my power," she says determinedly, balling up her fists. She looks to Ladonna. "I heard your own power has grown lately. It seems to be working out pretty well for you. People are saying you're a hero now. Pretty soon, you might even wind up on the council or something." She steps up to Ladonna and grabs her hands pleadingly. "Please, you have to help me grow in power, too. If I can get stronger, I can change my shape...I can make myself human. I can finally be normal, instead of a knife-eared freak."
Katya (Buho Inn, Common Room) "Well, that's what I've heard from my contracts to the west," Silas says, leaning back in his seat. "But it doesn't surprise me. The Equalists claim to be for equality and freedom, but in my experience, anyone who claims to be motivated by such lofty ideals is lying. Money and power are the only reasons people do anything. For all their talk of toppling the aristocracy, I'd be willing to bet my last gold piece that if they succeeded, the Equalists would just install themselves in power to take their place. You can't change human nature. Or demi-human...or...well, you know what I mean." He slurps down the rest of his drink, then places the empty glass upside down on the table before him.

Katya considers Silas's words and picks her rebuttal carefully, as if advancing through a minefield.
"Those who try to follow lofty ideals fall short of them sometimes" she admits, as if conceding a point to the tailor. Then she continues; "But those who do not try to adhere to their principals fall short of them always."
