Ladonna looks down at her grabbed hands, and then back up to Liala. Not that she would ever admit it to anyone, but she actually feels kind of bad for her. "I...I'll help you," she says. "But I do want to put out something before you give up all hope. Not all parents are like Marcus'," she explains. "You know who Katya and Jherek are, right?" she asks. "One is a half elf and the other is a human, and they were matched by their parents," she points out. "It does happen, Liala."

Ryan finally moves into the Inn and takes a seat at the corner of the bar and orders a drink.
OOC: Finally starting to get back to normal.

"Katya!" Theron calls out as he moves through the crowded inn and approaches the trio. "So good to see you! How've you been?" "Miss Gilbert, Mister Goff," Theron hastily adds, tipping his cap and offering a slight bow to the older humans. Turning back to Katya he says, "I hadn't realized you and Mr. Goff here were properly acquainted, Katya. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised, though -- anyone in Buho who admires fancy clothes would want to be his friend!" He gives a light-hearted chuckle, oozing exuberance as if this little celebration was the funnest event that had happened in recent memory. "Did you know I got this flashy hat from him at the Sandon festival?" he asks, indicating the cobalt-colored cap atop his head. "In earnest, Mr. Goff is a couturier extraordinaire -- does it up down as a trippet! If any cloyer sought to pull upon him, they'd surely find themselves beset with conundrums!" Theron drains another swig from his mug of ale, then emits a loud 'hic!' just after finishing. "Oof...fogive me, I'm prattling. I may be enjoying this fine ale a big too much," he says, feigning embarrassment with a sheepish grin. Theron is slipping some thieves' cant in the above dialogue to communicate to Silas: "If you're having business troubles, I may be in a position to offer solutions. For a modest fee, of course." Ladonna Marche (Outside the Buho Inn)Liala frowns and lets go of Ladonna's hands. "Katya is a bastard, though. Her mother probably couldn't find anyone more respectable. Although if half the rumors I've heard about Jherek are true, she could still do way better anyway." She shakes her head. "In any case, I don't want to wait around and hope things will just happen for me on their own. That's what I tried with Marcus. And Lenk. And Paul. And...well, you get the idea. It's time to try something new. Anyway, thanks. I appreciate the help. So what's your secret? How did you get so strong so fast?" Ryan McIntyre (Buho Inn, Common Room)Shanson brings Ryan his ale, and brings one to Judy as well, who sits down next to Ryan. "It's too bad your father couldn't make it this year. The church has him pretty busy these days. Hopefully he'll be able to stop by in the winter, though," she tells the acolyte. Katya, Theron and Lillian (Buho Inn, Common Room)Silas chuckles at Katya's remark, then seems to realize she was being completely serious and shifts in his chair awkwardly. "Uh, yes, perhaps so." He takes a long drink from his mug, as if trying to avoid any further conversation. When Theron and Lillian approach and the former begins speaking, Silas chokes a bit on his ale, coughs and sputters a bit, the color draining from his face. "Ah...aha, excuse me. Went down the wrong pipe," he says meekly, his eyes darting between his mug and Rebekah. He does not acknowledge the newcomers arrival at all. Rebekah listen to Theron's prattling and her lips become a very straight line before the councilwoman evenly says, "I'm pleased you're enjoying yourself so far, Mister Wiggledigit. Perhaps pace yourself, though, as the festival has not yet begun." Theron makes a WIS check (1d20): 8, pass. Theron notices that Rebekah seemed to pick up on his message. It's not clear if she actually understood what he was saying, but she did seem to recognize his words as being thieves cant. Silas looks terrified of Rebekah, but is trying very hard to appear calm; like a child whose parent just discovered evidence that they did something naughty and is afraid saying anything will incriminate him further.

"I don't really think there is a secret," Ladonna admits. "I volunteered to go out of Buho, and that helped me really gain understanding of my magic," she explains. "So if something like that ever happens again, maybe you should volunteer to help?" she offers. "Keeping my magic a secret was difficult, but in the heat of battle no one is really paying attention who is casting spells."

Rebekah listen to Theron's prattling and her lips become a very straight line before the councilwoman evenly says, "I'm pleased you're enjoying yourself so far, Mister Wiggledigit. Perhaps pace yourself, though, as the festival has not yet begun." Theronymous seems to suddenly become aware that something he said has triggered unintended consequences. Perhaps unconsciously, he begins mirroring Silas's body language, and abandons all attempts at making eye contact with him. Giving another short laugh -- although this one sounds more brittle than the first -- he says, "Yes, well, it was, erm, nice to see you! Katya, may I have a word with you, please?" He briskly walks a handful of meters away, to one of the inn's less-occupied corners -- more to give Rebekah and Silas a wide berth than out of any desire for privacy. "Katya," he begins, "I know things haven't been great between the two of you, but...have you seen Jherek recently? Or would you know where I might find him? I haven't run into him in any of the usual spots, lately, and I'm worried about him."

Wis check TN 14 oxpBIW|91d20Katya lets Theron pull her away from Silas and Rebekah with an apologetic inclination of her head towards the latter. "I know things haven't been great between the two of you, but...have you seen Jherek recently? Or would you know where I might find him? I haven't run into him in any of the usual spots, lately, and I'm worried about him." "His parents would know better than I would" she admits, though that's the extent of what she volunteers about whatever lay between them recently. "They're right over there. Though if he's not here he'll either be back on the farm or at the Goblin's Tooth. He hasn't been going on nearly so many hunting trips lately." 1d20

Ladonna Marche (Outside the Buho Inn) "I see," Liala says. "Adventuring then. That's how our mentor learned, wasn't it? Makes sense. Okay then. Let me know the next time the reeve has a job for you then, please. I know I can be useful."
Lillian (Buho Inn, Common Room) Theron drags Katya away, leaving Lillian with Silas and Rebekah. Silas continues to look agitated, while Rebekah simply offers Lillian a strained but polite smile.

"If anything ever comes up again, I'll be sure to find you," Ladonna says. "Just remember that no one knows that either one of us are mages," she points out. "So you might have to get a little creative when casting spells so that no one notices."

Lillian stands by Silas and his wife, not knowing what to say. Eventually, she turns to the former and says, "You seem a little...on-edge, Silas. What's wrong?"

Ladonna Marche (Outside the Buho Inn) "Don't worry, I've kept the masquerade going for this long, I can keep it up for awhile longer," Liala says. "And thanks. Really. I'm lucky to have you for a coven sister. Anyway, we should probably get back inside. It's kind of chilly out here."
Lillian (Buho Inn, Common Room) "Uh, wrong?" asks Silas, his eyes darting left to right.
"Mmm, yes, Silas. You seem to be sweating," Rebekah says coolly. "Is everything alright?"
"Oh, yes, just...awfully warm in here, isn't it?" Silas asks. "All these people together...lots of body heat, I guess." He chuckles nervously as he fumbles for a handkerchief to wipe the beads from his forehead.

"Okay, uh, thanks," Theron awkwardly replies to Katya. "I'll go say hello to them and see if they can point me to him. I...guess I'll see you around?"
He extracts himself from that brief conversation, and -- making sure to take the long way around to avoid going near Silas again -- shuffles over to the Bloodworths. "Mister and Missus Bloodworth! It's good to see you! Is Jherek around here somewhere, getting ready to show off some of his prized meats?"

Katya huffs, a little annoyed that Theron had dragged her away for such a minor question. Surely he could have asked without taking her from her seat.
She returns to that seat now with a murmured apology and breaks the uncomfortable silence by asking of her three companions; "Have any of you been to Dragonwine? You said that's where Lohman's Blades come from, right? I've heard that it's very different from Buho, but I don't have any first hand experience myself."
