After a good night's sleep, Bayla, Daos, and Melvin awake within the inn, with the latter heading down to the tavern area for some breakfast.
"Ah, good, you two are awake," the innkeeper says as Gunther and Matthis hurriedly cook food. "The council wanted to see you fellows."

After preparing his spells for the day (same as before), Daos descends to the common room for a quick breakfast. The news he receives instead is quite surprising. "The council? How do they even know who we are?" he asks. Although he immediately suspects that the only answer is one of the inn staff reported the party.
Looking to his two companions, he asks, "What do you think? On the one hand, we are in a hurry to catch up with the orcs. But on the other, if we can get some kind of support from this town council, it would be well worth the delay. We are only three, after all, against an entire tribe."

Melvin shrugs. "Personally, I don't like to work with the government, but you're right in that it could be helpful. Of course, if we don't see them, we'd have to sneak out of town."

Daos nods in understanding, before turning to the half-orc. "And what are your thoughts on the matter, Bayla?" he asks.

Bayla shrugs.
"Workin inside the law is typ'ic'ly easier n' workin outside of it. Besides, most people who start talkin' to me end up gettin' to the point quick-like. I've got one of them, whatchacall, disarming personalities." She runs her hand over her new axe's shaft distractedly.

“You make a good point,” Melvin says. “Plus, if we don’t like their terms, we can just skip town.”

"Well let's get some food in us. Then we can seek 'em out."
"No doubt they'd take their sweet time if we waited for them, yeah?"

"Alright, we'll go see them," Daos agrees. "But let's try to avoid trouble if we can. I'd rather not spend tonight in the stockade if at all possible."

After a hearty breakfast, the three are escorted to the town hall by Gunther, as the townsfolk whisper and point at them when they go by. Once they reach it, he returns to the inn, and one of the guards lets them in and takes them to a meeting room. He opens the door and the group enters.
Within it are six people sitting at a long table. One of them scrunches up his face at the sight of Bayla.
“The inn worker did not tell us that a half-breed was among your ranks,” he says indignantly.
”Peace, Werner,” pleads the woman sitting across from him. “It will be easier if they are all present.”

Daos gestures to Bayla. "This woman is not affiliated with the Lun-Chu, or any of the Sentok tribes, if that is your concern," he says. "I am Daos Soulstaff. Perhaps we should start with you telling us why you have summoned us here."

Bayla resolves then and there to let Daos do the talking.
She already thinks these people are miserable, backstabbing cowards. If they think poorly of her in turn, well, maybe it's just better they give each other space.
Daos did ask not to end up in the stocks, after all.

“Put simply,” the man at the head of the table says. “We need you to track down and defeat the Orcs who deceived us and burnt down our neighboring village of Meyerville. We offer you a reasonable pay of 50 gold apiece for your efforts and the services of two of our best soldiers to accompany you. We expect you to leave no survivors and bring back the head of their leader to us. Any questions?”

"With all due respect, wiping out the entire Lun-Chu tribe seems a task more appropriate to an army, not five people," Daos points out. "No matter how skilled they may be. We three have been following and investigating the Lun-Chu, however, and have come to believe that they are being controlled--possibly with magic--by a human. It is my understanding that the Lun-Chu were fairly benevolent, as orc tribes go, prior to their new leadership. Perhaps it would be more reasonable for us to find this leader and bring him to justice, rather than commit genocide of an entire tribe. The Lun-Chu should go back to their less violent ways, and the leader can be the one to pay for the crimes against Meyerville and Delvinburg."

Bayla stays both tactfully and tactically silent.

"The elf makes a good point," a woman on the right side of the table says. "Killing or capturing the leader should be sufficient to cause dissention among the orcs."
"Very well, then," the man at the head says. "Any objections?" Only the man who disproved of Bayla's presence raises his hand.
