CH. 01 - Fight for Freedom

Grognak, seeing that Runt and Dorias seem to be doing fine, picks up his spear and rushes to position himself between Ravarie and the Slig nearby to her.

[Daos]

Grabbing his fallen spear, Grognak hurries to defend Ravarie from the slig north of her (#1) and arrives just in time to block an attack.

Teakettle attempts to tumble away from the three sligs ganging up on her, but they block her way and attack.  Two of them score minor hits, but ironically, the only calm one among them is so distracted by the swarm of insects biting at his hide that he misses her entirely.

Dorais manages to hold off one of the frenzied sligs off of the kender, and takes a minor hit himself in the process.  Runt, dodging two more lobs of acid spit, swings his club at the same slig and misses, but then claws him across his right flank pretty badly, leaving her barely on her feet.  While she sways a bit, Runt winds up his club again and strikes her with it with such force that her neck audibly snaps and she falls dead to the ground.

The crowd erupts at the sight of death, but the sligs--the ones that notice, anyway, as three are still hyper-focused on Teakettle--seem outraged.

The Baaz doesn't worry about the Slig at his feet. Seeing Grognak standing tall next to Ravarie, he pivots and rushes to assist the kender, stubby wings flapping with determination, eyes bright and practically glowing with the thrill of combat.

"Taunt-kettle! Think your taunts too good today, yes?" His deep, booming laugh is loud as he wades into the closest slig with a bright, cheerful roar. His swings are rough, but despite the previous Slig's death he continues to avoid kill-shots as best he can.

"Ooph!" Teakettle complains as she gets hit again, the normally chatty Kender's only response to Runt's teasing.

She tries to dive between the sligs again. She needs to be anywhere but in this awful pincer formation between them and the wall.

She breaks free and goes cartwheeling across the battlefield, just a little more theatrically than strictly necessary.

Teakettle is more successful this time, somersaulting underneath the legs of one slig, then tumbling a good distance away.  Only one slig gives chase, but doesn't quite catch up to her in time.  Another is engaged with by Runt and the third becomes too distracted by all the insects swarming over him.

Grognak continue to engage with his own opponent, unable to pierce his defenses.  So it's with great surprise when the slig goes down from one of his own people's attacks.  Another slig spat acid again at Runt, but the baaz ducked and the gob instead hit the slig Grognak was fighting, knocking him unconscious.  The audience laughs at the blunder.

After having dodged the acid, Runt moves south and instead engages one of Teakettle's opponents.  Careful to hold back a bit this time, he smacks and claws at the slig quite a bit, leaving him bloodied but not quite out of the fight just yet.  Enraged, the slig hits back, giving a pretty good hit on Runt and causing the audience to cheer loudly.

Dorias doesn't fare quite so well.  He fails to hit his opponent, but does take a hit instead.  Fortunately, although a lucky hit, it didn't leave much of a mark.

Ravarie decides to have the insects change targets, so she tries to direct them to the slig chasing after Teakettle.

Teakettle turns and looks behind her with an expression of disappointment. She'd hoped to have the sligs so riled up that they chased her in circles while her friends picked them off.

No matter. Her antics got one of them alone, at least.

She suddenly pivots on her foot, whips out her Hoopak and closes into melee with the lone slig. She swings at him, careful not to kill him.

There's not much reason for Runt to stop, and finding himself facing two opponents, one of which is no longer harried by insects, he decides that removing an already injured threat is the best possible use of his time. 

He leers down at the Slig that dared strike him.

"Good hit Yes?"He hisses the words in draconian, heedless of the flare of pain the hard-hitting spear causes. The wine from before blazes in his stomach with a delicious, bloodthirsty heat as he strikes out yet again.

[OOC: roll dem hits. I don't know if I ever got a reply about splitting attacks between enemies, but I'm going to strike slig 7 with some nonlethal until it drops, then throw any other attacks leftover at Slig 5]

Grognak hurries over to aid Dorias, but is unable to hit his new opponent with either of his weapons.  Dorias, for his own part, is able to fend off the attacks of his opponents and even manages to hilt punch one of the sligs in retaliation him a bit of a bloody snout.  He hears one woman in particular cheering loudly in the stands.

Teakettle skids to a halt, turns back and smacks her pursuer with her hoopak in the chest.  She then nimbly dodges the counterattack, as the creature is still in a rage and can't seem to see straight.  As a consequence, the slig never notices the massive swarm of insects descending from behind her.

Runt's remaining opponents are either covered in insects or enraged, but the swarm suddenly lifts away, allowing the first one to not only attack, but get in a pretty good one, at that.  Runt tries to retaliate, but his club is knocked from his hand and his claw misses entirely.  The audience cheers wildly at this.  He does avoid the strike from the frenzied slig, but at that moment, the creature seems to calm down as the taunt wears off, and comes back to his senses.
