CH. 01 - Fight for Freedom

The sligs rain blows on him, but now it appears that Dorias has their measure. He deftly parries all attacks with his shield and then - as one of the sligs overreaches - he steps past his enemy's spear and cracks him smartly across the head with the pommel of his sword.

Despite being yelled at to heal Runt, she knows that he can take a few more hits (if he does at all), so she continues to concentrate on her prayer.

Runt curses in Draconian, and rather than go for his club decides to go all-in on the Slig before him- He can pick up the club when the Sligs before him are no longer a problem, and the slippery creature has proven annoying enough tearing it apart with his bare hands and teeth sounds satisfying enough.

[OOC: This campaign is cursed. That's what. At least four fumbles and three crits on their end in like 3 rounds? Gonna whack Slig 7 and 5 with claws non-lethally(though hopefully painfully) I guess.]

At the bad luck of both himself and his companions, Grognak takes a deep breath, exhales, and without making a noise, attacks the Slig next to him with all his might.

Ignoring his fallen club, Runt decides to rely entirely on his claws for now.  His two opponents manage to keep out of his reach, though, and one even scores another hit against him.  But the baaz has been through worse than this in the war, and has plenty of vigor left to keep fighting for some time.

Working together, Grognak and Dorias manage to knock out one of the two sligs plaguing the Ergothian.  This earns some boos from the audience, although Dhall'a nearly drowns them out herself with her cheers for the cavalier.

Teakettle smacks her opponent again, the only slig remaining that is still enraged by her taunt.  The creature suddenly finds herself swarmed with biting, stinging insects and between that and her frenzy, can barely focus on what's happening around her.

Runt gives a low thanks, though if the elf cannot speak draconian it sounds more threatening and angry than thankful. He can't really concentrate to make sure if the meaning was properly conveyed, however, as he's too busy dealing with the two sligs before him.

Runt lets loose on his two opponents, missing one but clawing another.  Grognak comes down to aid him, but is unable to pierce the creature's defenses.  Ravarie moves in and after praying to the Blue Phoenix, taps the baaz on the back.  He feels a sudden surge of vigor as the burn marks on his neck heal, as well as some additional bruises.  However, in doing so, the Kagonesti loses concentration of her insect swarm, and the bugs all disperse in different directions.

Growing frustrated, Teakettle strikes again with her hoopak, and this time manages to stab the slig in the shoulder with the sharpened end.  Although the insects are no longer biting the slig, she is still in a frenzy from the kender's taunt and doesn't even seem to notice how grievously wounded she is.  Luckily, Tea evades the counterattack.

Dorias, meanwhile, now only faces one opponent and has a bit more room to breathe.  Waiting for an opportune moment, he lashes out, smacking the slig across the face with the flat of his blade, nearly staggering him.

Runt has little time to scan the battlefield, but the more the Sligs miss and the more his claws break through their tired guards the more the Baaz smiles(a terrifying prospect, considering the long muzzle full of sharp teeth a Draconian can muster for the occasion). His claws rasp along the hafts of their spears as he ducks and weaves, darting in to strike at both Sligs again.

"Stop!" Teakettle complains, before she turns away from the gravely wounded Slig and runs flat-out towards the Northern wall of the arena to try and get away from her.

"Hah! You're slipping, you ugly lout!" Dorias teases his opponent as he penetrates the slig's defences once, twice, thrice and then slams the pommel of his sword into the slig's jaw.
