Yes. That being the case, can I switch that into CHA, and put the 12 in CON instead?
So this: STR 11, DEX 13, CON 12, INT 16, WIS 14, CHA 14

OK, the longer I go here, the more I badly want to play a Paladin. I promise I'm not a Lawful Stupid guy, and I don't stand around concentrating on the passerby looking for evil intent. I use the ability ONLY when the situation warrants.
I'll go back to the Priest idea, if you prefer. But I love the Paladin and would like to play one.

If the only problem with paladins is them using Detect Evil all willy-nilly, Greywolf, maybe that ability could just be nerfed or even removed entirely then? You could put a hard cap on it (like say, 3 times a day) or even change how it works. Like maybe go the 5E route, and that it can only be used to detect fiends or undead instead of straight up evil?

Ok so yes I'll allow Paladin and yes I will "nerf" the detect evil ability. Lets see if I can do this off the cuff.
Paladin detect evil will work as follows. Can detect evil at 1st to 3rd level only 3 times in a 24hr period. Must rest/sleep & pray to regain the ability. This can only be used if you suspect someone of might have an evil intent. However if caught detecting evil it will be like giving anyone the evil eye stare and will at the very least upset and potentially make folk warry and avoid your character also if you use this and it gets anyone not evil mad with you you will suffer a -2 to your charisma for a day or until you earn forgiveness for the "mistake".
Tried to word that so it makes sense basically it's a minor repenting to earn the righting of your insult to the person "wrongfully" detected evil upon. Fair enough?

I don't really use it that much anyway.

I actually really like that. I might make a similar change in my own games. It makes using Detect Evil more risky. Even if you turn out to be right, and they are evil, you just tipped your hand because now they know that you know.

Works for me and i made one other adjustment to the paladin. Lay on Hands should be used on others firstly, if nobody else is in dire need (basically if the paladin is injured worse) then this can be used on self (of the paladin). Basically just making it so the paladin has to live up to their "class" and consider healing others before their self had some selfish paladin experiences where they always "appeared" to use it on themselves and the clerics would be stuck healing everyone else. But if like the other "nerf" to the class I made you likely don't do this either so should be a non-issue.

I consider it an emergency heal for someone in danger, whether that be me or another party member. If there is no emergency, I'll use it at end of day on whoever needs it.
