The following morning is Ches 26th. The party wakes up, cleans up, readies their gear, and heads north. They spend an entire day traveling, only reaching the very edge of the Neverwinter Wood just as night is falling. They make camp just outside the woods and eat their rations, although Fosco realizes that he never replaced his missing waterskin, so he goes without that night.
The day after that is Ches 27th. After breaking camp, the party heads into Neverwinter Woods. It takes two hours of travel before Cragmaw Castle comes into view. It is perhaps not what was expected. This castle looks practically on the verge of ruin. The stone parapets are crumbling with age. It's not clear who built this castle--certainly not the goblins said to squat there now--but whoever it was, it must have been a very, very long time ago.
The party approaches from the west, keeping to the trees. The front doors on the west side appear broken down, and no obvious sentries can be seen from their vantage point.
"I don't suppose it's as easy as just walking in through the front door?" Zoya asks quietly to the others, squatting behind a tree, her hand on her sword hilt.
"It usually isn't," Iroas answers, peeking out from behind another tree, holding his holy symbol tightly. "What say the rest of you? Any ideas?"
=============
It is now Ches 27th, at high noon. Fosco suffers disadvantage on all ability checks until he can find some water.

"Well, I can try sneaking around to find a better way in, or to at least figure out what we are dealing with," Orianna offers.

Fosco gives a weak thumbs up to Orianna as he lies on the ground, realizing how much the sky looks like water.

Iroas nods. "Go, but be careful." He places a hand on her shoulder and mutters a prayer of guidance to Ilmater.

(OOC: Orianna can add +1d4 to her next ability check.)

Orianna takes off towards the only entrance she can see to scoot out the place a little bit. She tries to be as sneaky as possible.

Fosco downs the waterskin, stopping about thee quarters in. “Thanks—and, sorry,” he says to Balthasar, handing it back to him.

As quiet as the night itself, Orianna sneaks around the perimeter of the castle. The main entrance is to the west, of course. There seems to be another entrance to the south--a staircase leads up to an iron door. Although the walls have started to crumble at certain areas, none of them look safe to try and climb. It appears their best options are either the west entrance or the south one. ============= Orianna makes a stealth check with guidance (1d20+1d4+4): 20+4+2 = 26, pass. Orianna makes a perception check (1d20): 14, fail. She doesn't notice anything extra. VCsm|y|61d20(OOC: Turning a 1 into a 20 is probably the best use of Inspiration I've ever seen.) 1d20

Orianna decides to check out the west entrance first, in Hope's of finding something other than nothing.

Orianna (Scouting the west entrance) Orianna moves closer to the western entrance, remaining as quiet as she can. She sees that the castle consists of seven crumbling towers of different sizes and heights, but the upper stories are all in varying states of collapse. A short flight of steps leads up to a terrace in front of the main entryway. Past the wreckage of a pair of sundered doors lies a shadowed hall. Round towers loom over the entranceway, with dark arrow slits looking down on the terrace. She notices some sort of movement within the slits. Archers, perhaps? Or possibly just scouts. But either way, it might be dangerous to try entering here unless the party can be particularly stealthy about it. (OOC: Also, that guidance roll was just for the first check. You can stop rolling it each time now, the spell is ended.) Fosco and Balasar (Hiding in the woods to the west) "This somewhat reminds me of Cragmaw Cavern," Iroas comments to Fosco idly. "But without Djann walking out into the open and getting shot immediately, don't you think?" "Since we are here together, I had been meaning to ask," Zoya says to Balasar, "why is it you do not serve the forces of evil like many of your other chromatic kin?"

Balasar "Well simply the stories of Thymara and all Selûne has done to help my people. I was not raised in the realm of chaos. I devote myself to Selûne for it was she that helped Kepeshkmolik Thymara to aid the other dragonborn survivors from Tymanchebar. She also entrusted Thymara with Nanna-Sin's holy weapon, the Black Axe of the Moon's Champion. When Thymara asked Selûne what she was expecting in return for her help, Selûne only answered that she wanted the dragonborn to thrive on Toril. Thanks to Selûne's help, the dragonborn survivors were able to gather and found the city-citadel of Djerad Thymar. My people owe a lot to the goddess Selûne, and it is so that I became a ranger, a protector of goodly folk rather than as some of the others of my kind going towards chaos and destruction."
