Orianna (Scouting the south entrance)Orianna quietly heads over to the south entrance for a closer look. On the south side of the old castle, an overgrown path leads to a passage that climbs up into the wall. A large iron door stands here, sheltered from direct outside attack. Arrow slits ten feet above the ground overlook the path. Orianna does not see any movement, but she can hear noises coming from those slits. Sounds like arguing in the goblin tongue. (OOC: Once again, Horizons, you can stop rolling that 1d4 each time you make a stealth check. It only applied to the very first one.) Fosco and Balasar (Hiding in the woods to the west)Iroas chuckles quietly. "So it was, and he often wound up paying for it, too. I had to save his life more than once on that adventure. At least that is one thing we needn't worry about now." "Fascinating," Zoya comments. "And perhaps hope that all chromatics can be turned to the forces of good some day." After a moment, she adds, "I am afraid I misjudged you when we first met. I thought you might be evil. I see now I was hasty to jump to that conclusion. I apologize for it."

Orianna heads back to where the rest of the group is hiding to tell them their options. "Well, our options aren't amazing. Both entrances are guarded by archers, but I think maybe the south entrance might be best to try rather than the west. The west requires stealth from everyone." EKGygGrH1d20+4Stealth 1d20+4

The party circles around in the woods, and then move up from the south, toward the entrance there. When Iroas tries the door, though, he finds it is locked. He gestures for someone to come pick it quietly.

The lock proves difficult, but Orianna manages to win in the end. Once unlocked, she opens the door and slips inside. There are no windows in this area, so it's pitch black. She takes a moment to let her darkvision adjust. The ceiling is about 15 feet high. Cracked and uneven flagstones conceal a dirt floor under her boots. About five feet in, she sees a door to the left. It's made of wood reinforced with iron bands, but has neither locks nor keyholes. About twenty feet north there is a passage that has a heavy curtain blocking the way. ============= Orianna attempts to pick the lock [DC 15] (1d20+4): 11+4 = 15, pass. (OOC: Picking locks is a straight up DEX check. However, because Orianna is a rogue and therefore has proficiency in thieves' tools, and since she has a set of thieves' tools, she gets to add her proficiency bonus to the roll, as well. So that's +4, meaning she got 11+4 = 15, so she just barely passed.)

Pushing back the curtain reveals another part of the castle. To the north is another curtain, while there are doors to the west and east.

Balasar moves in to cover Orianna, but like the halfling and humans, he cannot see at all. There are no windows here to let in light, and the area is not illuminated. Unless he lights a torch, he won't be able to see much at all. Orianna, on the other hand, can see fine with her darkvision. She moves up to the next curtain and pulls it aside to reveal another crumbling tower. This tower has almost completely collapsed, although the ground floor still has a little open space. Rotting crates and ancient barrels show that provisions were once stored here. There is an intact door to the east. To the north, a short passage through the rubble ends before a screen of canvas. It seems to be a concealed door that she had missed on her original perimeter check.
